Title: Noticing a Change.
Post by: BamaBarebow on December 29, 2010, 10:54:00 AM
I've noticed lately that more people on the hunting channels are starting to use traditional gear. I know most still push products, but its still nice to see some shooting traditional archery. I'm watching a show called Down the Road and the guy is shooting elk with a Black Widow. Also a guy on Muzzy's Bowhunting TV that shoots a Hoyt Dorado. Arrow Affliction has had some and of course Easton's Bowhunting.

Just thought I would mention it so maybe y'all could check them out..

I'll take your word for it and keep watching for them.

All I get is the "Outdoor" channel and for the most part what I see on there... well I'd prefer something more to my liking but until then I'll just keep watching Tradgang.

God bless,Mudd

Most of what I'm seeing is on the Sportsman's channel.

I threw my TV in the trash just over 8 years ago, and I can't say I miss it. That may help explain why I spend so much time here though.

I only get "Pursuit" channel. Most of its just a bunch of immature half-wits walking around with a dangerous weapon. However, I do like a trapping show thats on there though.....Phil`

It's probably a good thing I don't get hunting shows.  As DannyBows said: this site is bad enough.    :biglaugh:

As the hunting population ages killing and equipment becomes less important than the quality of the experience. This means the guys on this site are more "evolved" (if you'll forgive me for using the term) than most of the archery world.

I have some thoughts about this.

I truly believe that we are gonna have a resurgence of trad.  We are already seeing some of it.

The commercialization of hunting drafted a lot of folks into the mold, but really, the weapons that we have now are no longer primitive.

There will always be some that prefer to use the fastest, bestest, most accurate equipment out there to make life easy.  They don't see it as that though.

They see it as using the best that technology has to offer.  This is the 21st century and we owe it to . . .  whatever. . It is a competition and who wants to be left behind.

A lot of folks are really tired of the rat race we created.  We,  OK at least I, want to walk away from that race whenever I can, to get my place back in the scheme of things and enjoy my place in nature.

For me, it is only natural to be carrying a stick and string.

Take a trip to the mountians.  Stay there for a couple weeks with no computer, no cell phone.  After a few days, maybe a week, you will be different, or you will be gone. .  not your style.

Some of us are just different. .   ain't a bad thing.

If the demand is there, then you can be assured that more traditonal hunting episodes will be run.

Like DannyBows, I seldom watch TV. I have seen three TV shows since July. One good thing about that is the commercials don't get old.

Hey, Mudd. If you get the Outdoor channel Easton's Bowhunting TV is the Fred Eichler show. He shoots  a compound at times because he is sponsored by Hoyt but he  more frequently uses his Palmer or one of the Hoyt recurves. The Muzzy Bad to the Bone hunting show features John Musshacia, Jr., who is the "guy with the Dorado". I also just watched an Eastman's Hunting show and they had South Cox of Stalker recruves shooting a mule deer with one of his bows. The Impossible Shots show has Byron Ferguson on as a regular shooting his longbow.

Stricklands's Archery Adventures is mostly a trad show also.

There are a few out there!

We should go with this Tradgang TV! Ron La Clair can do a tip for each week and we could self-film our hunts and send them to the TradGang HQ and they could edit them and put them on the show. It would be a hit.

I think that sometimes great ideas have very small beginnings.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed... who knows?...lol

I have seen it also.  One of the Primos crew shoots a black widow on occasion, though he uses it mostly for does after they have filled the buck tags.  Only us traditional guys can appreciate a miss with a trad bow more than a kill with a compound.  But they have to cater to the major client, and that is the get it done wheelie crowd. Still more and more are showing up.

well the problem i see with TGTV (we need to come up with a new acronym. TVTG is something that i dont think any of us needs association with. google it).

anyways , the problem is who is going to carry the camera? i have a nice camera , but the wife would absolutely fillet me if i brought it out in the snow. i will be bringing my 35mm class digicam for the rabbit stomp , so ill try to get some vid and maybe a little commentary.

i love the squirrel guy on youtube. i know how difficult that must be .

So i have the following ideas...

Trad hunting.
Tuning tips
The campfire (stories , like ron laclair's ghost story)
Across the drink (non-us hunts.)
Hare and feathers (small game show)
A daily/weekly guest spot for a bowyers bench tip , brought to you by a fellow tradganger. Eric's gizmo is scheduled to be the pilot)

and the big game show , "i need new undies"

hmmm that last one gives me an idea of an archery game show. something along the lines of price is right maybe?

and of course , Primitive Island (like survivor , only no one whines cause they can make everything they need) ...

all text and letters copyright 2012 HovaCom Industries...

seriously though , im running with this...

Throw enough big sponsor dollars at something and I can be guaranteed an unscheduled nap in my Morris recliner, no matter what they would be killing.  The way they first film and then do the after game recap, on hunting shows is a big yawn.  Then with playing the harsh nonoutdoors music loudly over the action sequences just gets me to change the channel or turn off the TV. Now if it could be actual and not hyped up, I may get interested, but then I doubt that any show producers would think that hunters are capable of paying attention if there is no harsh music and hype.  Of course, they would be wrong.  Most of the trad crowd can get by on the simple straight forward facts.  It amazes me, how easily people are manipulated by artificial stimuli, like equating electronic rock to the outdoors.

Most of the dims wits on TV now should just start their own reality show. Seriously, they just want to put there fat face and gut on the camera and blow for 20 min. and show hunts for 1 min. and some promo's for the 10,000$ of equipment. They are just a bunch of show offs that act like they are 5 years old. Not doing the hunting image any good at all. And I don't want to hear that crap about we are all hunters and have to stay together no matter how or what we hunt with. If I have to run with idiots then I'll not run at all. Some day I'll tell you how I really feel. Now give me some hunters that respect the animal and are not so into their ego and equipment then I can watch that. You know like Primal Dreams.
