Does anybody use Carbon collars? Shown here on 3 Rivers Archery's site:

And if so does anyone use them with Gold Tip Traditional 35/55 shafts and if so what size did you choose?
Thanks in advance
Mark
I've never used those but I like to put the CX nock collars over the point end of my shaft before glueing the insert in. Combined with a tapered internal footing I've found it makes my carbons indestructible. I just measure the od of the shaft then but whatever collar fits best.
they really suck!!!
Roy, Could you elaborate on why you didn't like them?
I have not used them very much, however, I've had two come out inside the target(2 out of 6). :dunno:
I use them, but I use glue-in/glue-on inserts and glue-on field points and broadheads. I have found them to be very durable and have had no trouble with them at all.

After one of my carbons hit a rock and got a small crack right behind the point I tried them. Now all of my carbons have them installed. It does require a little bit more effort to remove them from a target with the collars. After a while you get use to it.
Thanks for the input. Gold tips web site lists OD for the Trad 35/55 at .297. I assumed it might create trouble removing from targets.
Maybe fit and tune on arrows for roaming and hunting but leave off of some for dedicated target use.
Thanks again all. Also I'll look into the nock collars.

I like the aluminum collars that 3Rivers sells. To me the metal collar around a graphite shaft is the best of both worlds. The aluminum collars make the shafts super tough and have given me zero problems except catching slightly on new bag targets.

I have found that Footing carbon with aluminum make them super strong. stops the insert from pushing back into the shaft splitting it when you hit something hard
I have used the carbon collars from 3Rivers with good success. However, I now prefer to use a footing made from a aluminum arrow. They are cheaper, I look through the bent aluminum shaft bucket at the local archery shop. Sometimes you can get a shaft for free. Also the aluminum footing doesn't catch on a target as bad.
There is a good thread from "friends call me pac" (here on TG) on how to make the footing.

I guess I don't understand "using footing from bent aluminum"
I certainly have a selection of bent shafts in 2117, 2219, 2314, and a mystery size.
How are they utilized?

Though I was brought up shooting trad I've very limited knowledge of the finer points. Just converting to trad and hope to be prepared to take venison next season.
I use ones(old aluminum arrows) that are just a lil oversized over the point end of the shaft.I cut a chunk about 2 or 3" long and glue them on with JB weld. You will want to determine how much you want your arrows to weigh before you glue them and adjust them in length, and then try and get them all the same within reason.I personally think that it fortifies the heck out of the point end of a carbon and have no flight problems or have them come loose. They do catch coming back out of especially bag targets, but no big for me.
Thanks for the info. I'll kick that around.
Best Regards,
Mark
