Hi folks,
I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with selecting wood POC arrows for a Horne longbow and could help me select the proper spine range for my 52# Traditionalist? I'm leaning toward 65/70's over 60/65's.
Here's the specs of my bow and the heads I like to shoot...
Horne Traditionalist 64" longbow, 52# @ my draw length of 28".
Fast Flight string.
I usually cut my arrows to 29 1/4".
(3) 5 1/2" feathers.
I hunt with 145 grain STOS and 160 grain Grizzlies.
I appreciate any help and advice. Thanks and Happy Holidays, Tim
I WOULD SAY 65/70
A major factor in spine needs is how deep the shelf is cut. If cut to center, I'd go with the 65-69's. An email to Horne's would probably get you a good answer. Mark will know his bows better than anyone. Another option would be to try some test arrows. They will let you know exactly where you need to be.
Thanks guys. My bow is cut to center and is a reflex/deflex design. Pretty powerful bow and shoots around 190 fps.
I called Horne's today and Sandy passed on my question to Mark. He said I was on the right track thinking I'd need either 60/65's or 65/70's and that he'd lean toward the 65/70's.
I was hoping I might get lucky and find someone with a Traditionalist longbow similar to mine who has already been down this path.
I think I'll buy some 65/70's and leave them a bit longer than 29 1/4". I'll buy a field point test kit and see what weight flies best (125, 145, 160, 190). I'll also find out if I can cut em down to 29 1/4" and get good flight or if I need to leave them a bit long.
I have a 53# @ 28" Traditionalist, it shoots 65/70's best. 67 is perfect. They are 30" long, and I use 145 gr. tips. Shoots 'em with authority.
I recomend talking to Mark Horne.
I too would say 65/70 my Traditionalist is 56# @ my draw & absolutely "Thumps" a 575grn. CX 250 Heritage, Not much help, but when I talked to Mark, I think he mentioned around 70# spine, Im no wood expert by any means ... Good Luck ...
Thanks again everyone. 65/70's it is!
