How many of you are like me, where the current season isn't even quite over, yet I am already dreaming of next year?
I've already started the process of looking at different states websites, tag draw odds, preference point totals, etc. etc. And then trying to gauge how much time away from home I can get away with and still have my key work in the door when I return. :saywhat:
It's never to early to start planning ahead ;) :bigsmyl:

Our deer season ended here in NY on Tuesday. I was just telling my better half that there are only 280 days left until the 2011 early archery opener and I really need to start focusing on that. It didn't go real well LOL! I do have a new hunting location locally that I need to scout. And I will take a walk through my other local spot tomorrow, with snowshoes.

My hunting partner and I are already thinking 2011. For sure shed antlers/turkeys this spring; more of both! Then maybe a bear hunt with my brother in Manitoba/Alberta ('11 or '12). Then committed to a MT antelope hunt. And then deer, deer, deer...
-
I'm planing on going home to oklahoma and hunting with my brother,it's long overdue.
-

Hoping to get back to Texas beginning of next Dec.2011, Gonna try and get into bivy camping and hunting before I can't do it anymore. Lost 1400+ acres in NJ to hunt on so now I have to look for property to hunt on, yes I'm thinking about it hard !

I hear ya Whip ! Mason and I, God willing want to return to Illinois next year if we can ? Been a few years since we have been and longed to go back ever since. We did not know how bad we had it here in TN till that first morning in Illinois ! I sure envy you guys that live in the Midwest ! Simply awesome hunting.

The planning helps me get thru the winter.
-
I just signed off on 3 and a half weeks in Nov. for Iowa deer.
Also MN. deer and turkeys.
-
Yep. My next blind or stand will be closer to where I've seen deer from my current blind/stand. If nothing else I've learned to pattern the deer movement on the small tract I hunt. So yes, I've already started planning for next year and have begun mental plans on a ground blind. Also on another tree stand with improvements over my current one. Unfortunately the tract isn't large enough for stalking.
-
I'm already planning deer hunts in 5 states. Potentially a Bison hunt. And 2 outfitter hog hunts with my oldest Grandson, maybe a combo deer/hog if timing is right.
Would like to set up a bear hunt, but need to keep the wife happy also, (perhaps goats in Puerto Rico, or maybe Hawaiian Islands?). That should render her speechless.
-
Draw hunt entries for Alaska closes on Dec. 31 so planning ahead is a must. Basically put in for the same long shots year after year and hope for the best. Haven't drawn yet.
-
I'm already planning to many hunts. Waiting periods are off and my elk and antelope which makes for a hard chioce. I'm at max pionts on cow moose and the hope of drawing a Mt.goat tag is getting better but my main focus has be on really getting after the deer, elk and turkeys close to home. I'm starting a two year plan on doing my frist whitetail hunt.
-
Moose. This year was my first time with them, close but no cigar. Going to do it again next year and hope I've learned from my mistakes of this year. Moose, wish I had started chasing those pesky critters 30 years ago.
-
Spring turkey hunt in Kansas, and then to Maine in September for bear.
-
WELL Plan to go down to Tx to hunt with a friend in March then back here for Turkey , Blackbear in Manitoba end of May then out west after those Elk again then back here for Whitetail .Lets hpoe all works out
-
With classes, "teacher" type stuff and school schedule, my "plans" are pretty loose right now.
Need to do some stand work and of course there is the mowing etc on my land...
Hope to have a new LB to work with. Perhaps a trip to an adjacent state for a little different look...
Right now thats about it.
-
Tule Elk  I have all the points I need I thought I would of drew that tag this year but :dunno: and NV Mule Deer tag, Elk or Antelope anywere I can get a tag.
-
Going to really make an effort to secure permission to hunt some more private land. It's tough around here, but you never know until you ask.
-
Mountain lion after the first, spring turkey, elk, mule deer, pronghorn, and maybe late whitetail if I draw the extra tag. Nebraska and Missouri deer also. I'm wanting to get back to AZ after Coues deer, but not sure on that yet.
I really want a bobcat this winter also.
-
WY elk with my son in Sept. and MT whitetail in Nov, hopefully I draw the tags, I'm cutting way down on NJ hunting and all the stupid permits I've been buying for years.
-
12 Points going in to the AZ Elk Draw. Fingers crossed. 3 Points going in to Iowa Archery Draw . Should be a given. Renewed the Illinois Lease for next year. Several other options in the works. Could be a busy season. Good Luck to All & Happy Holidays. Randy C

In addition to planning for next year I also have future years on my mind as well. I put in for a number of different preference point options on a variety of animals. I think I am going to add Iowa and/or another whitetail state to the potential list.
Also I have gone over all of my stand set ups for here in WI. Made a map of every one of them and notes about which is good for wind direction/ time of day. I like to have lots of options, so am planning to add a couple and move a few to different trees.
Planning is all part of the hunt for me.
-
I'll hunt turkeys on my neighbors property this May. Come September I'll start hunting deer again on my property and my neighbors. The real attraction in bowhunting for me is being able to do it close to home and at a moments notice. I have had access to large ranches in Banner and Wolf Wyoming for many years but just never had an interest in traveling there to hunt when I have hunting right out my backdoor.
-
Hogs February in Texas and maybe a June bear hunt in Canada. My knees gave me a fit last year ( Lyme ) and I didn't elk hunt but hope to this year.
-
Whip,
That ND trip looks like one you should repeat!!!
I wish I was planning an elk trip as well but I'm already getting excited about Bear Quest!
I'd love to share camp with you again some day! Are you planning on going to the traditional archery expo in Waterloo, IA?
-
My buddy and son constantly discuss where we'd like to go beyond our backyards (literally). God willing I'll hunt turkey in KY and Nebraska and maybe South Dakota this spring.
I have an invitation to hunt black bears in New Brunswick in late May with my son who has never killed bears. I'll only have to cover the cost of getting there and a license -- no guide or outfitting fees -- I'll be hunting with a local.
I would like to hunt Moose for the first time in 2011 but that's a long shot -- expense. It is most likely we'll apply for WY antelope, UT elk, or hunt elk over the counter in Colorado.
Of course I have every intention of hunting whitetails in KY and IN next fall.
My biggest goal for the 2011 season is to decide, for me, what is the finest hunting bow I can get my hands on. I want this bow to be a fine looking custom with half a rain forest stored in the riser. But most importantly it must fit, be quiet, and pile arrows on top of one another!
I'm trying a bunch of them this first year back to traditional since 1974 and like most of them.
-
this year I'm sure I will draw a colorado both mule deer and elk tags. I'll also get a bear tag.
In a few weeks I'm head to Tx Javalina hunting with Mahaska...
-
Going to hunt pigs in S.C. with Ray Hammond in January, then frogging in the spring, stumping and 3-D's and a possible trip for Elk in September. After that just Deer here in New York. Hope to get a trip to Denton Hill or Compton in there also...just for fun!
-
Like Whip I'm stacking the points for future hunts...I’ll be in the draw for New Mexico, Wyoming and Montana elk…
I rented a house on the North Shore of Kauai in June (this house is gorgeous and on the river). It was my Christmas present to the kids and my wife and I. While I'm there I'm going to see if I can hunt goats and hogs on the Na'pali coast line. I gave my son-in-law a bow and the two of us will leave the beach to the girls and give it a try.
Maybe if I get drawn in the right place an elk hunt will be in the works also??? We'll see :)

I plan take a trip to South Dakota to hunt pronghorn.
My wife and I also mountain bike and a while ago set a goal to mountain bike in all fifty states. Each year we plan a trip to knock off a couple of more states. I try to combine it with bowhunting some local species. This year is North and South Dakota.
