Title: Las Vegas /Trad Knowledge for a young man
Post by: Canyon on December 24, 2010, 09:10:00 PM
A couple of weeks ago I was in the Las Vegas Bass Pro when I see a young man and his family walking around with a very nice 66" Damon Howatt Ventura. I immediately notice the brace height is way over 10" and find out the young man had just purchased the endless loop string from the "Archery Pro" who placed it on the bow showing him how to do it with a step through method.
:knothead:

I learn the bow belonged to his grandma from Upstate NY and that he really wants to learn how to shoot it. He has absolutely zero experience. I explain the problem with the string he has purchased then try to find the right string and see they have none as the longest is for a 62" amo recurve. I've got  a pretty upset "Archery Pro" at this point. I tell the young man I will make him the correct string as soon as I arrive home and send it to him. Well I have sent the string plus a few goodies but he has all the usual questions regarding rests, nock point, silencer, arrow spine, form, etc. I know I cannot do him justice via email although I will continue to help as best I can.

I was wondering if there is a Trad Shop or at least one with Trad knowledge in Vegas that he can visit and get proper direction and maybe personal instruction?

How about a copy of Teej's book?  It has the basics.

Already directed him here. While we were at the store he pulled TradGang on his phone.

Steve you watching my house. 30 minutes ago I  pulled TJ's book outta the library.

Just thinking maybe some Trad Ganger in Las Vegas would like to mentor this young man. I haven't asked him so I do not know what his response will be. But the one on one coaching sure makes for fewer mistakes.
