Well, after serving as a pastor for the past 45 years, this Sunday I will be retiring from the schedule I have been keeping and "retire" from full time pastoral work but not from ministry altogether. Soooo, I gave Steve Turay a call and got myself a retirement present ordered. She'll be a 68" Shelton, Great Northern Mist green glass on bamboo cores and a myrtle riser, 48@28. Steve says she'll be ready in a couple of months. This is my third Northern Mist. I already own one Shelton and love the string follow feel. Thought I would drop dpown 3-4# since I must be gittin' old since I'm gittin' retarded. :biglaugh:
Good luck to you with the bow and certainly the retirement.
David, enjoy your time. You have earned it...
Congrats on your retiring and your new bow.
congrats on your retirement I own a couple of steves bows. I love them.they are real fine shooters.one of the best longbows out there.steve is a real good guy to deal with
I think you made a good choice, I like the Shelton too. Enjoy your retirement!! Bob

God bless,Mudd
Congrats on your long career and your upcoming retirement :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Congrats on your upcoming retirement. 3 1/2 years to go for me. Post a pic of that bow if you can when you get it. Sounds like a real beauty. Will that be a hunting bow?
Congrats on your retirement and your new bow David. Everytime I order/get a new bow, I call it my retirement bow. My wife still says "but you're only 37."
Owlbait, yes, it will be a hunting bow--all my bows are. Hopefully I'll have more time in the woods next year. Guys, thanks for the notes of congratulations. Didn't think many would respond, but that's the TradGang family! This is new ground I'm plowing now, never been retired before, hope I don't drive my wife crazy..... ...Dave
That is neat Dave. I struggle sometimes finding the right place to hunt with my 58" bows. Don't know what I would do with a 68" bow.
Congratulations on your retirement , and your upcoming bow very nice choice, I have a shelton as well excellent quality as always from Steve. Keys to a successful retirement I am told is a lot of activity, Hobbies, Etc. Learn to play golf if you do not already play -- play it for fun do not take it serious!!! Good Luck and Merry Christmas, Jerry.
David,
45 years...Wow! I am working on 13 years in ministry. Thanks for your service to Him and all those you have touched for Him. Enjoy your "retirement" and new bow!
45 years working for the same boss (Jesus), well done my friend, well done.
Joe
Congrats on the retirement and the fine bow David! Hope the retirement doesn't drive YOU crazy, much less the wife! Enjoy the time...you've earned it!

Enjoy the retirement, and the new bow. So much time to shoot and hunt. I envy you. Congrats on 45 years in such a fine vocation David! :clapper:
CALVARY CHURCH OF SANTA ANA, Our paster's name is David Mitchel,Hope he does not retire any time soon.
Blessings to you brother. I have a while to go but all tell me it gets to be real fun. May our Lord shine on you.
Blessings to you brother. I have a while to go but all tell me it gets to be real fun. May our Lord shine on you.
May the Peace of the Lord be with you always...
Yes, the time has come for the the harvest.
You have sewn well and carefully cultivated the crop. May your bushels runneth over.
Good luck and shoot well. I hope all your prayers are answered.
David you deserve 3 new bows! Being a pastor is a 24-7-365 affair that never sleeps. Congratulations on helping people for 45 years and good luck with your "retirement" and new bow.
Sounds like a good plan to me
Caution guys -Don't be fooled by the minister stuff. I would imagine David is no different than Mark Eddings and another minister I regularly shoot trad with. They both, will pray behind your back!
Dave: I retired 10 years ago and have been so busy I wonder how I ever got anything done when I worked. It's true....you will be surprised.
Hope to see you in the not too distant future at Eldon's again, hunting bear. I won a Stalker longbow that I plan on using on the bear hunt this year. Not having shot a long bow in many years I hope that it is a shooter. It's nice getting new things every once in a while.
This must be a Minister thing. I got a Northern Mist Classic a couple of months ago figuring it would be my retirement bow too! Good luck in your retirement and I know God will continue to bless you and those you still minister to.
Congratulations David, for what should prove to be a great new chapter of life (and a new bow to boot!).
Dave I think you should take your retirement bow on a retirement hunt with us up to Eldon's place in Maine next September. There are four of us now One more would be great.
Good On You Buddy !! Maybe I'll get to "Drool" on her at the Baltimore Shoot !! Hard to beat those "Turay Bows" ....
Good for you David, I know you'll love it! Merry Christmas!
When our plant closed they payed out the employee stock in a lump sum. I rolled a big chunk over, remodled most of the house, and ordered my retirement bow.......a Brackenbury Quest!
Good news is the Brack is awesome! Bad news is I'm only 51 and will be working for quite awhile yet.
Congrats on your retirement, and your new longbow!
David, congrat's on your retirement and your excellant bow choice. Wouldn't mind having a green glass one myself.
Been retired since February 2004. I did get a 54LB @ 28 ,66" Shelton after my retirement. Only problem I didn't quit gettin bows! I got a few more since but the Shelton is my favorite.
David congrats on your retirement, thanks for your commitment to all us and the lord .
11 more years for me if health care doesn't get COMPLETELY out of sight .
Dang I won't be able to use my favorite Baptist Minister joke on you anymore
See you on the range
Jack
Congratulations David! When one of my favorite pastors retired several years ago he seemed to be even more busy as a guest preacher!
Hey,, folks, thanks so much for the encourageing words. I need them....tomorrow is my last Sunday in the church I have served 24 years. We have members who were born during my ministry here....going to be tough.
Congratulations on your retirement Dave! What a rewarding feeling to have served for so many years. Believe me you will enjoy the change but don't count on having any "free time" Stay well and good shooting!!
David: Don't take this wrong. You are on a new phase of your life and even though it may be a tough thing to do remember to be grateful for all the good you have been fortunate enough to do and hopefully have had some in return. It's just a change, not an ending. Your life still has meaning and purpose...you will find that there is still a lot of good to be done.
Congrats,sounds like a sweet bow!
Thanks, Bill. I am grateful indeed for the years of ministry thus far. I have a friend in Indiana who retired as an executive from Proctor and Gamble 2-3 years ago and he has been emphasizing the same thing--the end of one thing is simply the beginning of something new. I'm pretty excited to see what the Lord has to put on my plate next.
Dave, I'm sure all of those you've served faithfully for so many years will miss having you in the pulpit, but Im also sure the Lord has other important roles for you. (You never know when someone might be needed to fill a short term mission role in a remote Alaskan village overun with caribou, mooose and bear, for example.. lol) Whatever you do, God bless and best wishes for tomorrow with your congregation and the rest of "retirement". Maybe we'll meet up again in Maine sometime.
Don
Hmmm, Don, hadn't thought of that possibility. :wavey:
