Title: newbie question
Post by: skunkbear on December 21, 2010, 11:56:00 PM
What length of string do I need for a recurve that is 62" AMO?  I've read that the correct string length is the AMO length minus 3 inches, so for my bow I would need a 59 inch string.  Is this accurate?  Thanks.

That depends on the bow. I have an older recurve that requires a 4" shorter string, while my Kurve uses a 3" shorter string. The old rule used to be 4" for recurves, 3" for longbows. For peace of mind contact the maker to know for sure or measure your old string.

Have always been told 3" longbow 4" recurve . As Crow says it would probably be wise to check with the bowyer.

my 45# 62"amo Martin Savannah likes a 12 strand 8125 string of 58.25" actual length.

The savannah is a r/d longbow.

59" actual string length. If you buy a mass produced string order a 58".
