http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2010-12/total-lunar-eclipse-visible-north-america-tonight
For the first time since 1638, a total lunar eclipse will be visible from North America on the longest night of the year. That night just happens to be tonight, starting at 1:32 AM, so all you moon-oglers will have to stay up awfully late (or wake up perversely early) to catch it.

I'll catch it on the news tomorrow.

That's one reason I didn't go today. It's been my experience that deer are very active during full moons and especially late in the season full moons. My area has thousands of acorns still on the ground if not tens of thousands. And I'm just talking about one square acre give or take.
After deer season I'm going for the squirrels. :)

Does this lunar eclipse effect your eclipse broadheads???
-
I got to see part of the eclipse the other morning. The moon was a copper color and was absolutely beautiful! The only bad thing was i was headed to work instead of the tree stand! :(
-
I been waiting for it but it's rained at least 1" today and no sign of it clearing up. I guess I can watch the flooding instead.
-
Guys I'm telling yuh, next time your wife drags you to the beach on vacation read the signs. The wind causes the waves but the tide is controlled by the moon! Now think about it, if the moon can raise and lower the ocean that far what does it do to your arrow! It makes sense to me why I shoot low some days and high the next. I'm telling ya, you have to hold a full foot low during low tides! Check your tide tables, don't have a clue about this eclipse though, maybe dead on. JMHO! :goldtooth:

just checked here in mid Michigan , afraid its way to cloudy for a good view :(

Grrrr,it's cloudy here.

Hey Blake!
My goal is to Eclipse a good buck before the season ends :)
-
I've got my alarm set, and a sleeping bag set out ready go out and watch.
-
Cloudy but I'm hoping for a clearing. BTW- Don't forget that binoculars aren't just for terrestrial objects they're great for wide celestial objects like the moon and sweeping the Milky Way....Phil

How does anybody think this'll effect deer movement? If at all?
-
I don't think the total eclipse of the moon will affect deer movement any more than it normally does when it's full. I could be wrong, but it's just the earth moving directly between the moon and the sun, so the gravitational pull of the moon and the earth will still be relatively the same..........at least I would think that it is??
At any rate, it's the amount of pull the moon has on the earth and vice versa that affects animal behavior......along with the brighter nights which seems to highten movement patterns due to the availability of light. Just what I've always been lead to believe.
Some so called "experts" that hunt for a living say that they hunt the mornings leading up to a full moon, then the evenings trailing away from a full moon, but sometimes don't even bother going out until the moon is waning after it's reached it's peak fullness.
I can relate to that from personal experience myself, with one exception that during a full moon the midday hunting can also be fair. I would sometimes sleep in and hunt from 10am till 2pm just to see what happens, and more times than not I would see deer stirring right in the middle of the day. That's especially true in winter when it's super cold where you live, mainly cause that's the warmest part of the day.
Ultimately, I guess it all depends on who you ask and what their own personal experience has been?
Just my 2 cents.

I'll catch it next time, I have sleep to catch up on. :readit: :biglaugh:

As KD put it so elegantly on the back of a photo, "Eclipsed"
Hope that you are able to use the Eclipse in the past tense this year too.

I gotta see it , Im stayin up!

There was a pretty good one a few years ago-my son and I were out hunting. As soon as things got going we heard what we at first thought were fire engines, and then realized it can't be-we were in the middle of nowhere! Every able mouthed animal in the woods was going crazy screaming at the moon. If my son had not been there to witness the scene with me, I might not be talking about it now-or ever. The sound was simply amazing!

Hey ,it cleared off here today.Getting up at 4a.m.to go chase the wiley steelhead,so I will try to photograph it if works out.Wish me luck.Neat story Bjorn.I will be up,camera ready.

If you hunt during the eclipse, deer will through them selves on your broadheads... Oh sorry I was dreaming. Looks like it will be too cloudy to see the event here.
