Title: Arrow Spine question
Post by: CavScoutArcher on December 17, 2010, 05:29:00 AM
Hello Gang,
I have somewhat of a predicament here. I have a spread of bows that I plan on shooting once I come home from Afghanistan. Problem is that they range in draw weights of #48-#65.  The bows that i plan on hunting with are both #55 and #60 respectivly.
My question being is if you were to only be able to buy one spine stiffness of arrow to cover all/most of them what would it be?  Is it better to shoot a spine that is a little heavy over one which is too light?   I plan on purchaseing some beeman carbons and was planning on the 340 or 400 spine. any suggestions.
I am fairly new to this aspect of trad. archery and know that ideally every bow should have a properly matched arrow. But i am trying to stretch the few bucks that uncle sam pays me.
Thank you everyone in advance.

As far as i know, The Arrow Dynamics shafts can handle a lot of different spines required. I think that would be youre best bet.
I made arrows that flew greatout of a 50# recurve and a 56# longbow from CX Her. shafts, but i had to build out the side plate on the longbow to get there.

Good luck

Also Tonkin cane will shoot out of a wide range of bows if your looking to go with a natural shaft.

You will most likely have to play with point weight to get them to fly out of every bow You have.

You won't be able to tune the arrows to fly the same out of every bow if you plan to buy only one set. Now as long as the arrows are closely matched then you can learn to compensate for every bow because the arrows should fly with the same variance.

I shoot 340's out of both 60# and 55# bows. They are a bit stiff for the 55# limbs but I just add weigh to the point and they shoot just fine.

Spine for your heaviest if they are recurves or recurve-handled longbows (cut to center).

It's like saying: "I have three kids; ages 6, 8 and 10.  What size shirt will fit them all?"  ;-)

I like how you put that stumpkiller,
I spose when the time comes I will proubally pick up some 340's first and then expand from there.
Thanks to everyone for helping build my knowledge of the matter.

I am shooting AD's out of two Widows. A 45# MA recurve and a 51# PL.  I can shoot the same arrow from both.
