What is an ideal Foc% for good arrow flight and penetration.

Thanks ahead of time!!!!
The amount you get after selecting proper point weight for excellent arrow tune.
Lots of opinions on foc, seems lately the higher the better is in vogue. Personally I try for about 20% in hunting arrows.
my opinion - DON'T think about 'foc', just get yer arrows to first and foremost fly well for you and your bow.
this is not to knock 'foc' or 'efoc' - it's just that too much emphasis has been placed on arrow balance for the sake of arrow balance and nothing else. 'foc' is not a panacea for what counts most - a well flying arrow that will consistently hit the mark if you do your job.
if yer arrows are well flying, check the foc. here's where and how to do that, download the spreadsheet file, open it with excel or openoffice, and plug in the numbers ...
FOC calculator (http://www.tradgang.com/docs/arrow_calcs.xls)
to increase foc means to add front end weight - easiest to do with carbons and alums, far harder to do with woodies. in doing so, your arrow may no longer fly well as it *may* be too weak of spine. build out the arrow strike plate and/or increase the shaft spine.
only you will determine if increasing foc is a good thing that enhances accuracy and penetration. there is no substitute for doing your own testing, as each of us is an 'experiment of one'.
good luck, have fun! :wavey:
I don't worry about FOC,I prefer tp tune my arrows to get the correct dynamic spine I'm looking for.My woods I shoot 125 to 160 gr. point, aluminum 125 to 175 gr. points and carbons 125 to 275 gr. points depending on bow. Those will usally put you in at least 12% and higher FOC,which I think is just fine.
I never know what foc was until I got on this site about a year ago. I always shoot a well tuned arrow and try to get it within 10-12gpi and not worry about it. When I down loaded Stu's calculator I discovered I have a 13.7% foc. Whoopee!! It works. :archer: :dunno:
Thanks for the Info guys!!!
You have all been great help!!!
supposedly after you find the right arrow for your bow a percentage of between 10 to 15 FOC is good , but I have been reading that some want a higher percentage - don't know if that is better .
I try to get as much as I can without exceeding 10gpp. Once I hit my weight limit it is what it is and I never calculate it.
It's been my practice to ignore FOC and concentrate on proper spine and nock point height. I use fletching and put the metal tip on the opposite end regardless so FoC becomes less critical. ;-)

good one!
