had a really good hunt this evening. Did`nt kill a deer but did have a 6 pt at 8 yards for the second evening in a row.Yesterday I heard a deer coming through fast and as I stood up my knee "popped" loudly and spooked the deer. I have sat this crossing 5 times and have seen 4 different bucks and no does.7 coons,a possum and this evening I saw a bobcat.
I was leaned back enjoying the evening and there were squirrels scattered throughout the bottom. Two were chasing each other up and down and around a water oak about ten yards away. One went to the ground and I was thinking about sending an arrow after him when all of a sudden there was a racket and a brown "blur" goes to the squirrel on the ground and up the tree after it as well. I am in shock. I`ve never seen any critter move this fast in the woods. The squirrel barely makes it out alive and the cat is at about ten yards away and eye level.I`ve killed a few Bobcats and have one mounted in the front room for a door greeter and really don`t care to shoot this one. I`m wanting one more deer for the year. He spots me and slides on down the tree and leaves.
I sit back realizing I have just witnessed a real hunter at work. I was really listening as I was watching the squirrels because this is a very hot creek crossing and the deer will come through and be gone in seconds it is very thick as well. Point is the cat exploded on his rush for the squirrels almost under my tree and I never heard him sneak in.The leaves are dry as we have not had any rain in a while .Truly a Blessing from God to see such as this.
I did see the buck but no other deer and even without getting any meat this will be a hunt I`ll likely never forget.Thank You Lord.RC
thats cool, ive still yet to see bobcat in the woods.
Bocats are scary cool. Watched one on a squirrel last year. It missed like yours but it was really cool.
Great story. Those cats sure are cool.
its always cool to watch a cat and how it can sneak around making no noise!!
RC...I think this is the first post I have ever seen where you did NOT kill something! You are one hell of a bowhunter! Keep on Keep'in on!
Cool story, Sounds like a great nite
Bobcats are so cool. They are real scarce in Illinois although their numbers are growing. In 20+ seasons I've only seen 3 of them.
Nice mate ... very nice
You are truly a blessed man RC.
I wish our temps would give me a little break here.
I about froze my finger tips day before yesterday(or was it yesterday?) Anyway I learned not to put frozen fingers in front of the air vents as all it did was increase the pain..lol
No point in being stupid if you don't show it right?
Thanks for sharing your hunt with us RC.
God bless,Mudd
Thanks for takin' us along on your exciting hunt RC!
It's too bad that TBone didn't get stretch its limbs, but I am sure that in HIS time you will be blessed with the right opportunity....
Shoot straight, Shinken
:campfire:
I had a mountain lion walk out in front of me while turkey hunting. that was intense.
Pretty cool. Sounds like it was a great time in the woods!
Great story!
Usually takes consistency & numerous kills under your belt before another level of maturity sets in. Killing animals & good shots are fun & part of the hunt; but, when you can appreciate the wonder of the woods, you'll never leave emptyhanded. You've known a long time. Maybe what makes your posts so good.
Not only was the MASTER hunter unknown to you, but YOU were unknown to the master hunter...REALLY cool!!! :notworthy:
Great story. Its amazing what you will see in the woods.
Kinda cool to tuck that exprience away and then replay it later in your head later. It lasts for years.
Thanks for telling us about it.
Martin
Your recantation of the story came with a HD picture, stereo sound and a ring side seat as the events unfolded.
These kitties have also walked by me thru dry leaves w/o making a sound - leaving me perplexed.
I truely admired your focus on embelishing the moment and not taking the cat just because it was an opportunity.
Much obliged for you sharing these extraordinary moments. This event will be stored in shared memory.
Time to put the grease gun onto that knee, RC!
Thanks for sharing that. I'm not seeing the deer like I used to here, blue tongue nearly wiped'em out a few years ago in this region (making a comeback however)lots of other game to keep me occupied though... I would love to see a bobcat, they're around and I hear them at times. I used to kneel or just stand motionless for long periods but the older I get the harder that is. Finally made the Torges tree seat. Its nice but I miss the freedom and of only having to carry a bow.....Phil
that's the kind of day that makes us come back in the woods
C'mon, admit it! You was scared!
Seeing a bobcat is an excellent experience. I have seen many but have never seen one pursuing prey, its very cool. I saw one last year that had an abnormally cinnamon, tan is standard, color but had to pass as it was 2 days before season.
Sounds like a great hunt!
RC, great story. just being out there and having those types of experiences is wht it's all about. The way I see it is the game kill is just a bonus! wish i could've seen that cool envirement with ya.
Thanks for sharing.
Hunts like you had are a lot of what our sport is all about
That sounds like an awesome hunt! Alot of people just dont understand how you can have a great time in the woods and not harvest anything
Thanks for sharing the story! I've seen only one live bobcat in my life and that was in the rearview mirror on a Kansas road many years ago.
One of the neatest things I've ever seen was a coyote come sit in front of my tree at about 10 yards. A small plane was flew overhead, and you know how hard they (planes) are to spot since the noise and the plane seem to be in different places? The coyote quickly found that plane and followed it with his eyes. Then he trotted off.
