Title: Very low hit--updated/resized pictures
Post by: lovethehunt on December 13, 2010, 02:27:00 PM
Here is a couple of pictures that I took in early November. I let the first four does pass by me and took the last one. They were not alerted in  any way. The shot was 22 paces and I was only up about 12-14 feet. I knew the hit was low but was not sure how low.

quickly found my broken arrow. The point end. About 10 yards away was the feather end. There was very little blood on the shaft and some fat. Not good I thought to myself. I followed the blood to the edge of the field were she ran and then went straight to the spot were she entered the woods again. I had a little trouble finding the trail where she went in until I got to the transition from field edge to cedar swamp. The blood showed up very well on the fallen cedar "leaves"  and I could easily follow it in the dark with my "Wensel" light. The trail was short and sweet. The arrow had a very unusual travel path. I wish it was not dark or I had my head strap for the light with (they do no good in the truck). The arrow went through the front leg, through the chest, and into the offside leg. The lungs has a nice 3 blade hole in them and it looks like I may have cut the bottom of the heart. Not sure on that.

This one is back at my camp after following the blood back out because I had no idea which was out, I got really goofed up following the trail.

The second night of my long weekend went a little smoother, I saw this on go down.

I had never taken two in one weekend before this.
They sure are good to eat!

This is my first year using 3 blade heads, I like them. My bow is not fast (but hay, I did make it myself) total arrow weight is 580gr. Bow is 52@28. 175gr vpa with 100gr brass insert in a GT Blem. Two  out of three this year were complete pass through.

Please re-size pix no wider than 640 pixels...thanx!

I hit a buck like that a few years ago.  The arrow deflected off of the knuckle and went up through the heart.
