Title: This one's for Mudd.......
Post by: Ric O'Shay on December 12, 2010, 09:07:00 AM
A couple of months ago Roy made me a Robin Hood hat and asked that I post some pics. I held off for a reason. Several times Roy made mention in posts urging me to post pics of the hat, dropping a few hints, etc. Well, here is one special pic of the hat in a special place. My wife and I returned Friday from a 10 day trip to Israel. Mudd's hat went with us. Here is a pic taken at ruins of Caesarea Phillippi. This place is mentioned in two places in the bible, Matthew 16: 13-16 and Mark 8: 27-30. It is the place of many pagan idols and alters dedicated to them. It is also the place where Jesus took his apostles and in front of all the pagan gods, asked Peter, "Who do you say that I am?" This pic is just for you Roy.

Thank you so very much!! Yes I do indeed appreciate it.

I will be giving another "Robin Hood" hat away today. Make sure you get over to the giveaway thread if you'd like a chance for it. (Yes, even if you already have one as this one is a deluxe!)

So Ric, did anyone ask if you were from Sherwood Forest?
Very cool to have a look at the ruins too. What a trip that would be.

Welcome home! We were praying you safe travels!  :)

Nice to see the "Hat" in living color in ancient history.

Such a trip that must've been....

Ric,

I have not been to that part of Israel. It is a great site. I work for an Israeli company and have traveled to Israel twice. I have seen many places and at first thought you were writing about Herod's Caesarea on the Mediterranean. Caesarea I have seen. Magnificent!  It is a great place and the history is unreal.

The hat looks great and I am glad you are home safe! What did the Arabs and or the Israelis think about it?

mmisciag -
Caesarea Phillipi is in the northern tip of Israel very very close to the Jordanian and Lebanon border. If fact one of the three tributaries that form the Jordan River is the natural springs there.

Several battles of the 6 Day War were fought near there. This area and the Golan Heights were captured by Israel. Fencing near the border is to keep people out because of the land mines that were placed there while the land was under the control of Syria. Israeli troops found the land mines and removed some but left and moved many others. Now the Syrians do not know their location.

While at Caesarea (on the Mediterranean Sea coast) we could see the smoke from the forest fire on Mt. Carmel. We had just learned the 40 young men had died there when their bus was trapped in the fire while on their way to help evacuate the area.
