Last week I took my compound to local archery shop and put it up for consignment. Four days later it was gone, so many of my buddies asked why? Well my new goal is hunting everything with a recurve which for me will be deer, moose and likely the hardest will be turkey. With the money I ordered a Hoyt Buffalo with 40# limbs and a set of 50# limbs. I plan on using the 40# limbs for the club and the #50 for hunting especially moose. My plan is to use the 40# at the club till about August then put on the 50's for moose season in early September. I have so much to learn any tips thoughts of my plans or just general advice is greatly welcome!
Congrats!! Hope you enjoy yourself. I started hunting with a longbow about 8 years ago... I just love it.
God Bless,
Nathan
Practice as much as you can, but practice smart. Start very close and stay there until your form is great. I would suggest picking up Spirit of the Bow video. It is very informative and will get you pointed in the right direction.(no pun intended :readit: ) :archer2:
My son and I made that move 5 years ago, hence my handle, " NoCams " We too decided we just did not want all the technology. Nothing wrong with it, we just wanted something else. Sure gald we did.
Yes , practice as much as possible without injurying yourself. Also, if you are shooting more poorly than normal then give it a rest and don't dwell on it. It will wear you out. Just step aside and occupy your time with something else enjoyable. If you force the issue you will only start bad habits thus worse shooting. Good Luck. :archer2:
Good move!!
I remember My first DOE with a wheelie bow and My first Buck, But the Deer I got with My Trad Bow sticks out more. I think it's the Spirit of the Stick that does that. I got more of a rush when I made the switch to Trad.. I'll never shoot a wheelie bow again. Other then helping someone with theirs, But not for hunting.. That's just Me.
Good Luck and Welcome to the Brotherhood.

You will find yourself enjoying archery and hunting so much more now ! Good Luck and Have FUN !!
Practice practice and more practice.... start up close... work on form every arrow you shoot. Shoot only a few arrows per session. Do not practice bad habits. enjoy...
I have shot compounds for 15 years, many hours a day,all week long. Then I realized i was using something that was more close to a rifle than to a bow.18 years ago I made the switch, never looked back!!! I am glad I did, much more fun much more etic.
You need to practice more but what a difference!
I did the same and never looked back. I now have less range for hunting but I don't care. Killed: Dall Sheep, Mt. goat, moose, deer, boar, bear and more all within 5-20yds. love it
Good move! The Hoyt should be the perfect transition from a compound. Once you get the hang of it you'll realize that it really doesn't take that much technology to put an arrow through a deer at 20 yards. And you'll have WAY more fun doing it.
Another 1 welcomed to the brotherhood.Congrats on joining us and on your new bow.You will find out how much fun bowhunting can be.
Big ugly congrats on the switch i was wondering what the extra limbs cost for the buffalo, I just ordered mine on monday and I thought about extra limbs but was scared to ask.
Good fo you.
Congrats on the switch, and the others are right as you will never look back.
Like many have recommended, you have to "date" your stickbow. Some wheelie shooters blow the dust of the case 2 wks before season and shoot well... not so with the trad bow.
I remember someone saying, "when how you take the animal means more to you than how many you take, or how big they are, you'll commit to stickbows". Welcome to the addiction!
 :clapper: :clapper:
Congrates!!!!!!!!! You will never look back.
Good move. I was a part time recurve shooter for about 15 years. I finally gave the compound up about 5 years ago. I have NO regrets. Hunting became fun for me again. everything that i kill with it means a lot more to me.
Good luck!

You should be afraid, the bow cost $700 the extra limbs $400! I got $425 for my compound so itbought the limbs. Keep in mind I'm in Ontario Canada and pay 13% tax on all non essential purchases, will likely be a little less for you but still likely half of what you paid for bow.
Congrats
what trad beagle said
And them wheels keep a rollin on further down the line. Maybe Johnny shot trad too. You did right for sure! Welcome.
Congrats and welcome to the group of real hunters
congrats, i made the switch about 4 years ago my self, and now i actually like shooting again, the compound just gets boring after awhile, and wait till you feel the excitement when you harvest your first deer with a trad bow
I will actually be moose hunting with it before I'm deer hunting. Wouldn't that be a blast, twenty yards and in with a bull moose looking for either love or a fight!!!

Very well put! You will not regret going traditional. One of the reason I switched is because I was sick of all the gadgets. Somthing was always off. Now all I have is a recurve string and a glove, whats not to love? Jason
I did that 20 years ago, never missed the wheels or all the crap that comes with them.
