Hello fellow TG'ers! Now that the whitetail season is winding down (for some) I thought I'd let everyone know I still have 3 openings for bears this coming spring.
Check out my site (attached link), look at the pics and watch the videos. The last couple years vids. show that I hunt trad only now so be assured the baits are set up for that.
The openings are as follows:
May29-June4 3 openings
2012 is wide open....
Thanks....Ryan
If I didn't have hunts planned every 2 months in 2011 I would be all over this!!!
Well then Adam...we'll share a camp fire in 2012...or eventually. Good luck on those hunts...Ryan
Very nice website and congratulations on the great bears you have taken in the past.
I've been on a few great bear hunts and a few not so great bear hunts. I booked with Ryan the second it was official that he was opening up his operation. This is going to be an awesome bear hunt! Remote camp, not hunted in 4 years, and an outfitter who knows big bears.
What more could a guy ask for?
As per SteveO AND knows Traditional Bowhunting and the extra challanges. You will do well my friend !If I ever book a bear hunt it would be with you.
Hey Ryan: I had to push my Africa trip back till 2012, trying to get it worked out for my son and I to come up late May. He has to work overseas a few months a year and we are waiting to see his schedule in 2011. Should know by mid January. What could be better, Father, Son, Big Bears, Canada in the spring....Doesn't get much better than that, Hope it works out. RW.
Great website. Those bears look Biiiiiiiig.
Thanks guys! Down to 5 hunts available.
Very exciting site Ryan,it looks to be a great spot.
Felix, come on over. Make a spring hunt AND a fall hunt on this side of the pond.
Did you know there will be a TallTines only week up at Ryan's?
I would come for meet you and other some great guys, but I have had some bad days in my family and few things to fix.I'll try anyway.Take care.
Man Ryan, one day!!!
Felix, I am very sorry to hear that. I hope everything works out OK for you and the family.
Ryan, did you get my PM? Looking for a hunt for my son for HS graduation.
Terry, that is an excellent idea. I have a few years to save up for that trip  Thanks!
Terry...got the PM! I'll get back to about the details. Thanks....Ryan
Still got the May 29-June 3rd openings available? How many baits do you normally keep going?
Roger....yep, those spots are open. That week will be 3 guys in camp total with 15 or 16 baits to hunt. The closest that any 2 baits are together is 3 miles (with very rough terrain between them). That would allow each person to hunt a different bait every night without repeating any bait! Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks...Ryan
Ryan,
How bad is it getting a bow in & out of Canada compared to a firearm? And after is there a problem getting the bear & meat out? I live in NY.
Thanks,
Dan
Hi Dan....Haven't experienced any issues with bows....gotta love bowhunting! Manitoba in the last 2 years had made it easier to get the bears back to the USA by only needing your hunting tag to get everything across the border. It's only processed hides that need permits....raw hides and meat is normal luggage. Hope that helps...Ryan
You must pay $50 Canadian and fill out a declaration form if you want to bring a firearm into Canada. No worries on bows. Most of the customs agents tilt their head and look kind of funny at you..."You are going to hunt a BEAR with a BOW?!"
I'm definately looking forward to hunting these big color phase bruins next spring, and the spring after, and after, and......
Btw Ryan, hows the fishing up there?
Ryan,
Was talking to Darren Shipp and he thinks I should get talking to you about a bear hunt soon.Looking for a coloured one for sure.
Hey guys...fishing is great from what I hear. Lots of stocked lakes and various types of fish. I'll also "possibly" be looking for a place to shoot some carp if time permits. Bears are 1st though.
Harl....Darrens a great guy, taxidermist, guide and shot with a LB too! Let me know when you're ready for a colored bear...Ryan
I'm trying to set something up with a Caribou hunt in Manitoba.Once I get that taken care of I'll know when to get in touch with you.Darren had nothing but good things to say about YOU as well.
Down to 4 spots. Thanks guys!
So who on here is going and when. Looks like my son Tyler will get a chance to experience some Manitoba bear hunting. He doesn't know it yet though.
I am thinking mighty hard on it !
Terry...it's almost all guys from here. I need their permission to say who but will encourage them to step up. Manitoba is not gonna know what hit it in 2011!...Ryan
As I mentioned to Ryan in an email...I got a little Christmas bonus from my wife who owns 51% of our company (you can guess who owns the 49%)...when I told her I was sending it to a fireman in Manitoba to help fend off the bear population up there she gave me that "look". Sadly I am getting set for 2012 and not 2011... :)
I am part of the June 5-11 group. Driving up from S. Illinois.
Too funny Mike! Howabout I send your wife a firefighter calendar to distract her while you come hunting? 2012 seems far away but gives me more time to tie one up for ya! ....Ryan
Anyone on here in the first week hunt?
pm sent with some questions!
Jamie...I typed you a nice long PM but you're PM box is full!...Ryan
THAT is frustrating!
So big bear boss; you have any pics of our accomodations?
We are going to eat gourmet just like at the firehouse, eh?
:wavey:
I want in one this one so bad! Just can't swing it this year Ryan. I'm trying to line up more quality hunting ground for midwest whitetails!
Steve.....sorry, no pix of the accomodations. I can`t promise much more than a roof, shower, and campfire......oh yeah, and a great view on the lake! The food though...I`m sure you won`t be losing weight. Be sure to drop a couple pounds before you come up.....Ryan
My bad Ryan, gotta it cleaned up!!
Jon....no problem, there`s always the next 20 years to plan a hunt up here. I know what it`s like to get that whitetail bug....it`s an aweful disease. Did I ever mention one year I hunted 52 straight days before killing one of the bucks I was after. I was so jacked when he showed up that I didn`t hit him till the third shot. That`s one story for the campfire. See what I`m doing here.....I`m baiting you! I`m really good at baiting but please don`t call me the master of baiting if you know what I`m saying!!! Let me know when you`re ready to come up....Ryan
Careful Ryan.. or we're gonna start calling you "Ninefeathers" ;D
Getting the gears already....I love this! It`s gonna be a great spring! BTW...that`s a great nickname!
and Brian...just put your receipt in the envelope...Thanks....Ryan
Still trying to figure out when and where the Army is going to send me before I can make any hunting plans...but Manitoba is on the top of my list!!!
SteveO, what week will you be in camp? Tyler and I will be in week #1. I received Tyler's grades yesterday and he had all "A"s for like the 3rd semester in a row. For those of you that know Tyler, you are probably really surprised. Despite his seemingly carefree attitude and lack of attention, he is really brilliant. I have a hard time beating him at Cash Cab and Jeopardy. Anyway, I thought I would give him a little gift for his great grades and broke the news to him and had him watch all the videos on Ryan's website. To say he was excited is an understatement. He's been grabbing the bow and trying to shoot in frigid weather. I'm gonna set up a target in the basement for him. Ryan, I can only get about 10 yards in the basement, so set the stands CLOSE!
Terry....10 yards is more than enough. We could always do 10 yards on the ground????
That sounds fun! I love the video of you and your dad on the ground. I think I have an old Red Wing hunter. Take a look at the photo I sent of Tyler with the gator. Is that a Red Wing bow?
Tyler is a great shot to begin with, but I'll have him shooting awesome. He's a confident kid and doesn't get rattled easy. He's shot some very big whitetails and would've jumped in and wrestled the gator if I would've let him.
Terry,
PMd you AND e-mailed you.
Ryan--10 yards is good for me too
Steve...with that new longbow you should be able to reach out to at least 11 yards?... especially as it'll be a 7 footer!
7 foot longbow ??? Come on guy's...You won't be needen that much heat. :nono: :nono: :nono:
5'4" or 5'6" should be plenty of bow.
:D :p :D
Hey TG'ers...between all the people booking and cancelling I thought I'd bring this to the top with current openings.
Just a reminder that there are 16 baits with maximum 5 hunters in camp for a week. The weeks with 3 hunters mean that each hunter could hunt a different bait every night and we'd still have a left-over at the end of the week.
I managed to rent a cabin on the lake for the month up there which makes for nice atmosphere and a dry place to sleep.Still looking for input on portable showers? Who's had good/bad luck with certain kinds? Oh yeah...the updated openings are the 1st post of the thread.
Thanks guys....Ryan
Looks like a fun hunt! Nice web site enjoyed the videos too.
OK Mr. Manitoba, the longbow will be here at the end of the month and I have the best wood arrow guy in the world lined up to make sure I have some that work
I want in on this SOOO bad. I just can't swing it though this year due to other hunting obligations. Hopefully next year.
Jon, maybe I can twist your arm just a little in Kalamazoo...
Hey Jon,I'm saving my pennies.I'm planning to take Tracy for a graduation present. She will be completing her masters degree in 2 years. She is hooked on bear hunting. It would be great to hunt with you again.Maybe, Tracy and your lady would hit it off.
Bill
Steve....We'll get you close enough that any arrow will do. Heck....I got a guy possibly coming up with stone points.
As far as the ladies in camp...hope no-one is looking for a day spa???
Well, we have a bamboo arrow pro with us, but no stone points. Mitten may just decide to go with hand to paw combat!
Hi everyone,
I thought I should introduce myself since I am Ryan's "Number 1 Guide" in camp this spring. I am really anticipating a good season with many monster colour phase bears hitting the ground. Can't wait to meet everyone in camp and make some history (camp tales).
Hey Brian, did Ryan tell you that I am the 4 yard champ? So you might have some competition during the camp shoot. Oh ya, what kind of cigars do you like :) ?
David
Money is sent, gear is gathered, Talltines is ordered...come on 2012 :)
I bet 2012 can't come soon enough, eh?
David
"Mr Manitoba"........lol I know what name is going on your work orders now !!!!!
David,
Good to "e"-meet ya. Looking forward to a good hunt with y'all this spring. I am OK with letting you keep the 4 yard title. Twelve yards out and 8 feet up is more my speed. But hey... we'll hunt 'em however they need hunting.
As for cigars, Camacho, Fuente, Graycliff, and La Aurora are some brands I enjoy most, corojo or sun-grown by any of the above are hard to beat. Bourbon, wine or port are my preferred drinks w a smoke, but I could get by w a Molson or Half Pints Sweet Nikki Brown if I had to, eh? :D
What ever works Darren ;)
Brian, we will knock 'em down any way we can. And I will have to introduce you to some good Canadian brew!

Really, good Canadian brew? OK. It would be a new experience. :biglaugh:
You boys get any Brador's up there eh?
Just keep that NASTY Clamato juice out of camp...
Ah...I see it's started already. By the time the season gets here we'll be well aquainted.
Busy up here getting things lined up. Just spent a couple thousand on treestands, climbing sticks, 2 way radios, atv helmets and goggles, portable shower, etc. etc. Ya gotta love spending money on camp and hunting stuff!
Still 5 openings BTW.
Thanks guys....Ryan
Tyler and I don't smoke or drink, but we sure love a good Mt. Dew! I'm thinking a 4 yard ground blind would be perfect for Tyler. I can video from the tree stand! :)
Then Mt. Dew it is!!! As for Tyler eye to eye with a big bear and Dad videoing from the tree.....well we have to have a 2nd guy videoing the whole scene! Seriously though....that would be awesome!
Ryan As a high school teacher my options for hunting trips are very limited. How late into June do you hunt? I would be looking at a 2012 hunt.
Thanks!
Hi Bob...for 2012 my last week of hunters starts June 3rd. If however this year proves to be really good later into June, then I'd likely switch to later dates pushing the last week to June 10th? Exam time right?? Sorry!...Ryan
Yep! That is what I thought. Oh well! Maybe I'll hit the lottery someday and not have to work for a living! Thanks and Good Luck with the hunts!
Just got back from Ryan's place after talking about stickbows and the spring bear season. Spring can't come soon enough!
I know I am pretty excited but IndianaBowman I can't imagine how pumped your son is. Is it his first bear hunt?
Ah This is right up on the top of my list..as Ryan Knows
Just a matter of time bro :readit:
wont happen this year unfortunately...save me a Big one
Too all the tradgangers going with Ryan this year...get ready for an Awesome hunt!
I have put in for an elk tag in WY that I have been trying to draw for 5 years...is it wrong to halfway wish that I don't draw it so I can go hunt bears with Ryan THIS spring? :knothead:
Perhaps I too will win the lotto and can tell the boss to take this job and shove it...but the boss is my wife and I only get one "away" hunt a year. Come on lucky numbers :jumper:
Ryan, we are serious about the ground blind. How fun would that be. I can certainly video with him on the ground. It'd be a hoot! Tyler doesn't get rattled over much of anything.
If the setup calls for a ground blind we are all for it.
MB Bowman, my son Tyler is now 18 but has been hunting since he was 10. This will be his first bear hunt. He has taken some nice animals in his short hunting career. A 10' alligator was a memorable hunt for him. He has also taken wild hogs and some very nice whitetail deer (140"+). I think he can hold it together on a big bear eye to eye better than I could.
Sending a video camera with Terry and Tyler, can't wait to see the footage.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!
Just thought I'd bring this back up as the whitetail season is winding down and guys might be looking for their next hunt? Thanks...Ryan

A Langer camera in a ground blind on a bear bait? Where do I remember that from ?
Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.
Good luck to all X2
Just cuz I like looking at what we might be in for...

:jumper: Man that gets me PUMPED!!!
Ya, I think that gets any bear hunter pumped.
Bill,
You need to get your pro staff together and do a Zipper week up at Ryan's
Seve,You know I would love to do that very thing!Alas,Tracy's masters degree is keeping tho cupboard pretty bare, for now anyway.
Does anyone need a kidney?I have a spare for sale. :biglaugh:
Alrighty...we're up to a kidney...anything else to sweeten the deal? C'mon Bill, you managed to marry a pretty lady, obviously very smart, and who can shoot a stickbow.....you can certainly figure out a way to get up here? JJ buddy....I know that the masters is the key ingredient to making Manitoba an annual trip! I'll make sure to have a "Graduation Bait" ready for Tracy.....Ryan
What are they getting for plasma these days? I gotta get tip money together :goldtooth:
That is a giant bear!
Bill, I sure hope I can get some great footage for you. I'm expecting great things with Tyler's luck. He can kill a giant whitetail in a Walmart parking lot.
Ryan, will be sending you a Email with a couple questions.
This is gonna be GGGGRRRREEEEEAAAAATTTTTTTT!!!!
Ryan said he always wanted a plasma
The kidney is still available, but one arm and one leg belongs to the University of Cincinnati. :goldtooth: I'm not sure what else I have that anyone would want. OH Yea,I do have some bows laying around. :goldtooth: HUMMM plasma,I never thought of that.
I could not keep my plans away from Tracy any longer.I'm awful at keeping secrets. When I told her I was planning a Manitoba bear hunt for her graduation present. She said, Your not suppose to tell me that its suppose to be a surprise. So I through my hands up and shouted SURPRISER!I dont think it helped much.Atleast thats what the look she gave me said. :dunno:
Bows lying around huh?? Zipper bow???...Never heard of em'! JJ
Bill you and Tracy come up and we'll see what we can work out....Ryan
I've just made a deal with Ryan for some "Specail Bear Bait" that we've been using for years. The bears WILL fight for it! Ryan comes from a great hunting background and anyone booking with him will do very well with his dad helping him out.
It just keeps getting better and better!!!!!
Down to 4 openings!
Anyone from Michigan going in 2011?
YEP!...I'll let them pipe up!
Steve, my buddy and I are going with Ryan this year. I know Ibow from MTB fame has hunted with him in a previous life. Shoot me a PM or if you are going to Kalamazoo next weekend, I will be there for the duration.
I'd sell my liver to be in on this one. But I doubt anyone would want it!
If it doesn't have sclerosis, I am sure someone would want it :)
I think you ment cirrhosis. I'll take sclerosis any day.....lol
Dang Jon,with your liver and my kidney. We should have a good start on a hunt or two.I'm not sure how we should advertise these items. What angle should we try?Slightly used?Scratch and dent sale?Slightly pickled liver, and gently abused kidney?
I'm just not sure what would be the most effective way. :biglaugh:
Dang Manitoba bears are starting to haunt my dreams!!
Bill
Darren,
Cirrhosis and sclerosis refer to the same condition from what I have studied. Although, cirrhosis is a more common term and specific to the liver ;)
Damn, I learn somthing new everyday. This is why im a taxidermist and not a lawyer :dunno:
I'm looking forward to the stories, photos and video from the spring bear hunt. Good luck to everyone hunting with Ryan and Manitoba Bowhunts this year.
Just got home from buying an ATV. 2 down...one more to buy! Picked up a few thousand pounds of bait last night too...(thanks to Ron from Bear Track outfitters) Kinda weird hauling bait in minus 40 degree temps!
Before we know it spring will be on us and we'll be in camp. Might be down to 3 spots. I'll update when I know for sure...Ryan
Ryan, could you post the dates of the spots when you know for sure. Thank you!
Wade... I have 2 spots for sure, maybe 3, for the week of May 29- June 4. June 5-11 is one spot that is likely still open. I'll verify later..Thanks...Ryan
So Bill is bringing the Pro-Staff? Must be what he wanted to see me about in KaZoo. I've already killed one Trad bear but I'm ready to upgrade! Wish I could swing it but I'm about 3 years out till I have plenty of free time! Have fun guys.
Ryan....lets chat about that first week next week.
The weather warmed up here in Manitoba. It reminded me of spring and obviously with spring comes bear hunting! Can't wait!
