Hi, Guys!
I just finished completing an application for our state's (Arkansas) Triple Trophy Award. The Game and Fish Commission offers this award as a means to encourage hunters to harvest does.
To be eligible for the award a hunter must take a deer by each of the three main methods used in deer hunting. Modern gun, muzzle loader, and archery.
Historically Arkansas hunters have been reluctant to harvest a doe. Primarily because us old tappers were "brainwashed" into thinking that it was unethical, and just plain wrong to kill a female deer.
We were taught this through laws designed to prevent the over-hunting of deer. At one time our state-wide deer herd was estimated to be around 500 animals!!
Many hunters began hunting in the aftermath of those dreary days.
Now our herd is increasing tremendously and it is time to balance the buck/doe ratio.
At any rate, I wanted to say thanks to the members of this forum. I have wanted to receive this award for many years but never put just the right amount of effort into the archery part of meeting the requirements.
Because of the encouragement and support given by the memberso of TradGang, I finally reached that goal. :D
Thanks, guys. :notworthy:
Now, do any other states offer programs such as the Triple Trophy Award? And have any of you received the award? I know there are other Arkansans on this site, how 'bout ya'll?
Stan
Congratulations!! good on you!!
Well, I have taken the required deer for the TTA, but used a bow for all of them... No award for me.
God Bless,
Nathan
No. I only enter in "The Freezer" competition.
I did get a "Cooperator" patch from New York for helping in a multi-year (and ongoing) ruffed grouse program.
I think they could have come up with a better description. Sounds like I should be in witness protection.

Stumpkiller, I favor the "freezer" competition my self. So do my sons. They love venison, especially southern fried with mashed taters 'n gravy.
