Title: Hunting Big island Hawaii, Questions
Post by: TDHunter on December 06, 2010, 02:44:00 PM
I'm conmirmed for heading to the big island Dec 30 2010 to Jan 13,2011 and I'm scambling to figure out if I'm going to get some hunting in.

I've got my exemption letter and see I can buy a licence online.

I now just trying to figure out the hunting areas. I've dowloaded the maps and regs.

Has any body hunted the "Kaohe Horse Pasture" or the "Pohakuloa Training Area"

I see there's only a few archery only places open this time of year, so it looks like i'm limited.

Kaohe has been closed due to droughts, and Pohakuloa has been closed for awhile due to theft, droughts and wildfires.  Not sure if they will ever re open Pohakuloa
It's also bird season right now.
You may need to look into hunting private land.

I don't know much about hunting Hawaii but maybe you could try the Parker Ranch. They got goats, hogs, and wild cattle. That's where I would start looking. Just google Parker Ranch. Gary

P.S.I have no idea if they do archery hunts.

I planned on hunting public land but when I got there, a fella at our resort told me about the wild pig problem at his in-laws macadamia nut farm. Can't remember the name of the place, will have to look at my notes here. Call some farms, wild pigs are a big nuisance.
