Title: Game Cart/Hauler Information......
Post by: mcgroundstalker on December 03, 2010, 07:19:00 PM
Even though I am young at heart I'm kinda feeling my age now... Sometimes hunting alone has the draw back of well, being alone when getting a deer out of the woods to my truck or home.

There are a few on the market... I don't know doddle about them.   :dunno:   Can I have some feed back please.

Thanks A Bunch!

I really like my Ameristep non-typical aluminum cart. It carries in as an easy backpack (maybe 20" x 20" x 6"), unfolds, has sturdy canted wheels, centers the wt., and works awesome. I hauled out another #220 field dressed buck this year (yup- weighed it!). I am 50- two back surgeries and inner ear disease- I need to be careful hauling and this works well.

I know there are larger carts out there and take more wt. off- but the down side is they take up so much room and are not portable.

PM me- I can tell you one of the best deals out there.   $70 cheaper than other places.

I made one at my work before I retired. Works great but the store bought ones have a better size. Mine is a bit wide so you need to watch where to try to go with it,on a trail its great. I used it to carry some extra camping gear up north, on the way out it was down hill and I could control it with one hand. Had over 100 lbs. of gear on it.Not a bad thing to have........

KSdan pm on the way.

I have been looking also.  I got a bad back.  going in for some work on it the 14th.  I can't drag like I used to do.  I use a jet sled a lot, but need a cart.  I use my quad when I can, but often have to go get it if I am close to home.  A cart would be great.  I have done some looking at the big catalog stores and checking the reviews on line.  Watch out for the ones set high over the wheels because they tip easy.

I just got one at Cabella's black Friday sale. My son went early to buy a gun and I had him pick Me up one for 65.00.

Looks pretty well built. The price was right. I hope to roll a Deer out on it in the near future.

I can't help you out with the cart, I use a loader tractor or my Jeep. But I will say that if you have a trailer hitch on your truck look into a hitch haul rack, they sit low to the ground so you don't have to lift the deer so high. This is a real bonus when your alone. Or you could rent Joe he's a real mule   :bigsmyl:

We have the Cabela's Super Mag Hauler. I have to take the wheels off to put it on my hitch and haul (and be able to open back door). Other than that it is great. It is super heavy duty and will go over logs and through brush and all that. We hunt rough stuff with no roads so when we are going in to recover game especially at night we need heavy duty stuff. Just consider how rough you will need to be with it and how portable it will need to be. The Yukon Collapsible Game Cart from Cabela's looks good. I have seen those elsewhere as well. I would avoid the Aluminum ones if you expect rough treatment. I bent one of them just getting it out of the box and immediately returned it.

I have yhe cabela's, but did not like it until I got the extra set of wheeles. If you use it in steep rocky areas it makes a big differancs.

I've got the API game cart and it really makes it easier.. Not only getting deer and elk out but also into the truck.  I like the API cart because the wheels are in the center which means the weight of the animal is balanced on the wheels, there fore you are not holding the animal up like you would be in a cart with the wheels at the end.

They are great. The big wheels
make it easer to go over logs and shuch. I use mine for halling fire wood also.        :bigsmyl:                                     (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v81/graybuffalo/2004camp075.jpg)

If you get a cart that has  spring pins holding the wheels on make sure you wire the pins so they don't get pulled out and lost. Also tape a couple spare pins on the cart just in case.

Bigger wheels are also easier on rough ground.

Pete (and others)-  I solved that dilemma by getting those split/spring key rings.  They are portable but can not come off. I had to drill a couple of holes just slightly- but problem solved.

Mike, it works like a champ and you get no blood in the truck.People do stair when you load it into the truck at dark. I get new ones with handles, they roll up and I have velcro straps under my pack it attaches to.
