I am working on some kids quivers. I am making them from heavy cardboard tubes I get from work. I have an end cap I can use and found some heavy black foam to put in them. I am going to make them tube quivers with pull out opening in the lower tube a little like my Arrow Master. Then let them decorate them. I want to put on a shoulder strap with a buckle so they can adjust the size a little. I would like to find some 3/4" nylon strap and some parts like buckles to make the shoulder straps, but I have never seen that kind of stuff anywhere. Then I have never looked for it before. Anyone know if you can get something like that at a hardware, home improvement, fabric store or something like that?
There are camping-backpacking supply places that will have the straps/buckle parts you are looking for......google it.
Wally World will have 'em.
Todd,
I'd have figured a guy like you that hangs out at JoAnn fabrics would know all about this!!!
That is where I found materials like that last year when I made up a shoulder harness for one of my hunting chairs. Felt like a fish out of water walking around the store with "the girls," but got everything I needed.
Good luck to you. Sounds like a great project!!
Thanks everyone. I will head out and check Wally World first because there is one not too far away and then try the fabric place if I strike out at WW. I suspected those places, but didn't want to waste a lot of time and gas going to the wrong places. Last time I tried to find Duco I spent $10 in gas trying every store on my side of town and didn't find it until months later by accident in another town at a different franchise dollar store than the one we have. It was $1. Great deal. It only cost me $11 with travel expenses.
Ace Hardware sells nylon strapping by the foot, and has buckles.
strap works.com great service
Post picts of the finished product!
True Value Hardware here has that stuff.
I have also gotten that sort of thing at REI...but it costs more there.
No luck at Wal-Mart. We were going right past so no big deal. We are heading out in a little bit, and I will check a couple places we go past, which have been listed.
Thanks!
Don't know if you have an REI store near you (backpacking/camping supply store) but they sell it by the foot, and have the buckles, too.
I don't think we have an REI, but then I didn't think we had a Harbor Freight until I looked it up.
I found most of what I needed for the straps and hardware for those at the True Value Hardware. They had a couple colors and we got some hunter green strap and some various buckles and slides to try out. I got enough for a couple quivers and some straps to bind up heavy clothes and strap them to my hang on stand or back pack for packing them into stands when hunting. I have been wanting to do that for a while. I have a couple of them, but wanted a few more. The short straps and buckles are real handy for sleeping bags, bed mats, and all kinds of other uses. I can never find short ones unless I salvage them off something. Now I can make up a few.
We stopped at Jo-Ann Fabrics and got some fabric to go over the quivers plus they had more colors in the nylon strap so we got a little more of that in a color to go better with the fabric pattern my daughters wanted. They were having a big three day sale so we did good on what we needed. I think we can make a quiver for about $6-7.00, and most important, the kids will have more fun making them then buying them. The strap and hardware cost less at the hardware so I would get it there again next time I need it.
Now to get started.
