Over the weekend during our gun hunt in WI I came across this track and scat. This is whitetail country but we have a few moose that run around every once in a great while. Since I have no idea what moos scat looks like I thought the fine people of Trad Gang might be able to help. This track, scat and multiple beds was mixed in with a bunch of whitetail tracks and beds.

Yep moose although commonly moose scat is more elongate.
The track is from a heffalump the scat is that of a woosel. Elusive quarry, I'm suprised they left any sign at all.
Looks like a moose that ate an '06 cartridge.
It`s not moose poop, it`s "Whoppers" malted milk balls, and what looks like a hoof print is actually from a rifle butt, set in the snow in a couple different positions, as he tried to pick up his spilled candy.

:biglaugh:
Looks like meatballs. try them with spaghetti, they're awesome with red sauce.
I was likewise thinking that the poop looked like a rifle cartridge. . . I wonder if it was gut shot! :bigsmyl:
Dan in KS
ive heard of sh***ing bullets..but never thought it was true
Looks more like elk to me. Where were you at Jim?
If your anywhere near Clam Lake, I have to agree with Joe.
i have no clue... we dont have tracks or Crap like that in alabama! :)
I lean toward elk as well, though if you were close to Rhinelander, it might be a Hodag. Thought they were extinct, but there might still be a few around. :bigsmyl:
This is on my hunting property on Hwy 32 in Wabeno,Wi (Forest County). I talked to a couple of neighbors and evidently a small bull moose has been seen in the area. We do see them once in while farther north near the UP border but this is as far south as I've heard of them.

I will have to respectfully disagree. It was definatly made from one of those sneeches with stars upon thars.
BIG rabbit with a sore bottom.
Looks like he was sitting on his haunches afterwards.
Spotted mountain gorilla definitely
I would say moose also, if it is a young guy he might have been run off by the bigger ones. it is the dew claw marks at the back the make me say moose. Remindes me of seeing them in the mud along river backs in AK.
not a great picture but the camera is 4 ft off the ground. I went back into the area I found all the beds and all the saplings were browsed and broken off at about 7ft high

That is def. moose tracks and droppings. Some Canadians burn the mooose scat to keep the skeeters away. It works pretty good.
sure looks like cow elk to me..tracks pretty big though.big ol cow.
Man somebody been eating CocoPuffs and messin with you...If you taste them and they have a chocolatety flavor then deffently Coco puffs but if not let us know what they taste like... :dunno:
There is a distinct difference between moose poop and elk poop. It's the taste.
Hodag poop isn't that big and since they have sharp teeth as evidenced by the sign as you come into town (if I remember correctly, by the car wash), Their scat is usually more like a wolf.
I worked at the scout camp for many summers and saw Hodag poop regularly.
I think maybe it is dog food dropped by a drunken leftover Hodag festival attendee (Hodager).
The track is that of a small horse.
IO would guess Moose or elk, both wouldn't be unbelievable where you are at.
I'd say ya got a moose on your property there.
scat looks like elk. track looks like moose.
if there is a flat dimpled area on the pellets then it is elk. moose are like fat footballs with rounded ends.
Compared to all the moose crap Ive seen, it looks a little too round....moose is usually grape shaped....not as round as your pics.
.....and believe it or not, we actually have ALOT of moose around here!
Moose I'd say - Used to throw a ton of it at my cousins on those Canadian fishing trips. :)
Pumice stones (volcanic rock), probably hurt like %&^#.
The track is old, and looks too big and round for elk.

Moose is bigger and rounder.

I am unfamiliar with the tracks but I remember growing up in Oconto a moose wandered into town, so it wouldn't be unheard of.
