Title: Can you stop an arrow from spinning?
Post by: Cromm on November 28, 2010, 05:01:00 PM
Hi,
OK I have one of those small spy cams that I have put on an arrow to shoot up into the air. I have put four big Flu Flus (Right hand) onto the arrow and two small left hand feathers on but the arrow still spins. I don't need the arrow to go far I just want to see if I can get a video of me shooting the arrow so you can see me as it goes into the air?? I saw a guy on U tube doing the same thing and his arrows didn't seem to spin but cannot find it now.....
Thanks for your time

I know the guy who did this from an german forum.

He used a 6 flectch (not fluflu but regular 6" parabol i think) and put 3 left and three right wing feathers on it. Said that would stop most of the spinning.

heres the link with pictures:

3 completely straight feathers with no helical will keep the shaft from spinning.

Think safety and don't shoot it up into the air.you don't know where it will land.Mount it to a target

Actually three straight fletched feathers will spin. The difference in surface texture on each side of the feather is enough to create a low pressure zone on the rough side that will impart some spin, especially on a field tipped arrow.

Member the ole Koplan broadheads that had the off-set blades? I fletched an arrow in the opposite direction as the head. The arrow flew great till the broadhead unscrewed and fell off. Sorry guys, it's a rainy day and I am bored.

Try not fletching it.

Thanks guys.
Yes that was the guy. I will make up some arrows with and without feathers and see what comes of it.
I only shoot up into the air on a plain field that I can see all about.
Thanks for your time and help.
