Title: limb skinz?
Post by: Andy Cooper on November 26, 2010, 05:56:00 PM
Do limb skins or camo tape noticeably affect a bow's performance?

It's been a long time since I put tape on a bow, but I do use the skins and don't notice any difference.

Unless your bow is a high gloss finish I wouldn't think you'd need them.  Of course maybe you're trying to provide a bit of protection to the limb?

If you look around in nature there are lots of very light colors, even reflective ones. I don't skin, tape, or paint any of my bows anymore. However, if I took one of my high gloss finished bows hunting (Bear Supreme TD for example) I would likely put a light sock or skin on the limbs.

I use them on every bow, not so much for camo, but protection and quietness. Nothing like sneaking through a nasty twig infested area and the branches are twanging off your limbs. Very unnatural sound. The skinz soften the twig slap and protect from scratches. I've never seen any difference in performance, even when shooting Fita style competition with high tech equipment.

I have found the deer pick out the black faced limbs so I put Spandex camo skins on. So far, it has worked very well. I have had a few deer and pile of turkeys not pick me off.

Andy,

I, very recently bought a couple sets of the limb skins, for two of my recurves that have a glossy finish on them. The fit is excellent, easy to put on......and does a very fine job of hiding the glare from both of the bows.

I would recommend them without reserve, as a matter of fact I made my first traditional kill with them on my Snakebit. They don't inhibit performance in any way and don't change the way the bow shoots either. They also offer some protection from scratches and such.

Limbskins do not effect bow performance. I've been using them since 2004 on longbows and recurves, rain, dry and snow. No prolblems. You can buy one set and use them ove and over on many different bows. Easy on, easy off.

One day I decided to see if my arrows impacted differently on the 60-yard field target with them on and off. No change, and that's good enough for me.
