On Saturday, November 13th, I headed out into the pre-dawn darkness to one of my favorite tree stands laying down a trail of Smokey's "Doe in Heat" and doctoring up a scrape with his "Tarsel and Preorbital Gland Lure." After getting set up in the tree stand just before dawn, I could hear what sounded like a buck chasing a doe within 100 yards of my set up. The chasing and crashing worked its way away from me and all was silent for about 15 minutes as the sun began to rise. As just enough light lit the forest floor, I heard a deer approaching, quartering into the wind towards me. When the deer got to about 60 yards I could see that it was a buck. I never let it get as far as the scrape I had doctored with Smokey's deer lures. It stopped in a shooting lane at 30 yards, I hit anchor, and let fly. The woodsman tipped carbon arrow penetrated through the low center shoulder. At the hit, the buck hit the ground, regained his feet, ran about 100 yards, and fell to the ground. When I field dressed the old boy the woodsman broadhead and about 8 inches of shaft were dead center, still lodged in his heart. What an unbelievable will to live these animals have.

My Connecticut 8-point weighed in a 168 lbs. and was the first good buck I'd seen all season. Just wondering if anybody else has had good luck using Smokey's deer lures? He is a sponsor here on TradGang and can be reached at smokeysdeerlure.com

From left to right: Brooke, Garrett, Ben, and Billy helped me get the buck out of the woods with my wife Kate filming the whole thing. Sure was a fun Saturday morning.

Awesome! Nice deer and I love the group photo too. Looks like the lure worked.
Thanks Guy's! Yeah, a good day passing the "TRADITION" on...
I'm disappointed with Smokey's. Made a bunch of scrapes, treated overhanging branches, etc. Set up trail cams and the only bucks I ever saw were on the trail cameras at our stands while they were chasing does that were feeding. Not one of the scrapes I made was hit. In fact, I made a scrape under a hemlock that has a scrape under it every year. It took about a week but a buck made a scrape on the other side of it, and a few days later made another next to the one he had already made. My mock scrape, even at that spot, never got touched although one doe did stop to smell it and the camera caught her doing that.
Congratulations Bill! And I'll bet you caught it all on film!
Great buck
That old buck is a Stud. Handsome dude and he would surely wind up on my wall.

I've been using Smokeys for a few years now. I use the preorbital gland lure on perimeter mock scrapes on overhaging limbs staring in mid to late August. I get a lot of bucks coming in to investigate and add there scent to the limb. Not many bucks scrape the ground that time of year, but I get a lot of photos of different bucks through the end of September. We have a good age structure of bucks in our area, so that may help also with increased "deer like" activities. Mike ps nice buck Bill! Ha!
I've hunted with Bill before. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to fit all those kids Bill and I in the same tree!!
Very nice buck Bill, congrats!
Congrats Bill! Sure does sound like a great day.

I had SEVERAL nice bucks come to a doctored up scrape. I just cannot get pics on here. Its the real deal.
I started using Smokies about a month ago. I made a mock scrape and withing 3 days I had tons of trail cam photos. If it's ok I will post a few pics. I think that next year I will try to start earlier on my farm to get a better idea of what's there.

Congrats on a Buck of a Lifetime Bill! :wavey:
Nice shooting Bill and that's a nice buck! Congrats!!!
Nice buck Bill.
I used Smokeys this year for the first time and I must say I am very pleased with it. I just got it in late October an within a week they were hitting them pretty heavy. I did not shoot a buck from them (by choice) but they were using them pretty regular, one of them got really large an deep! I also had a few bucks follow my doe in heat drags in like they were on a string.
Congrats on a great buck!!
Great pics. Congrats.
Congrats...Good stuff.
I've had a blast watching young bucks....one real nice 10(2.5 year old) and 4 different 8 pointers bird dog around my stand with Smokey's Doe in heat pee. Every time I got up in my tree I'd sling a cap full....and every time I left I'd do the same.
Like I said....it was comical watching those bucks trying to fine the way 'that doe' went.
That 10 is gonna make a dandy....already got great mass and a webbed main beam. It was tuff passing on him....and would be even tuffer next year.
I also saw the biggest racked buck of my life, just could not get a shot....dang what a 12 pointer....plumb scary.
Anyhow....congrats again Bill!!!!!
I've got to try some of his lures....maybe it will get the deer movin!
Thanks again Guys.
Good luck with Smokey's
nice buck, bill! congrats and nice family photo! you should be proud!
