Last Friday was a fantastic day for the family. It was the beginning of my son's Thanksgiving break from PSU. He's on the lacrosse team so visits home just don't happen too often with his hectic schedule. What a great feeling to have him at the dinner table with the family! With the important things like food and story time out of the way we headed to the basement to check his bow....which naturally I already had strung and ready to go! :p He spent the next few days shooting and preparing to hit the woods a few days later. :knothead:
I will be waiting. I always enjoy your stories. :wavey:
Sorry folks, work is always getting in the way of the fun stuff!
This little guy kept me amused most of the evening! He was out looking for love!

A one "point" he was really close!

Right at dark I had four does stroll on by. I thought they were heading one way but then they took a quick left :help: The beauty of having a son who is bigger and stronger! Drag time is soooo easy!
As I was field dressing the doe my phone vibrated in my pocket. My son, had also shared in the fortune and had shot a nice doe!
He said his shot looked good but maybe an inch or two back. The WW head left us a pretty good trail but just too be sure we'd give her some time and take my deer home. After quartering up my doe and dinner we headed back to the farm. The trail was good but the arrow and ground sign definitely told the story....the arrow was a little farther back. We headed home for the night :( The waiting game is so tough, especially on the young folks....
Convincing your son or daughter that everything will be fine is never easy. Paunch hit deer are nightmares and recovery is tough. We had a pretty good idea where she was headed but things don't always work out the way we hope. He kept asking if the she was going to die....he knew the answer as did I. We had to find this deer.
Morning came and we hoped back in the truck. As we were approaching the lane I told him to watch the creek bottom as we drove past. We didn't get 20 yards and his young eyes spotted her curled up under a hemlock! :jumper: What a great feeling for both of us and wonderful gift!

My son's definitely a one bow guy and that Silvertip will always be his go to bow. It was originally Maxwell's bow but he couldn't hit anything with it, so he sold it too my son for some outrageous price!

Way to go Timmy! Connor was impressed, my wife immediately pointed out you've been home an hour and a half and have shot more deer than I have in a month. Keep up the good work. Greg Dwyer
Nothing better than spending time in the woods with your children, when it has tracking and smiles (like the one on your sons face) it's priceless. Congrats to both of you.
Thanks for sharing. Happy Thanksgiving
Congrats Tim, Hope you both have a great holiday! Nothing better than family!
I don't know if he has told ya yet but he likely enjoys this more than ya know.
I went "away" to college in the 60's and there was nothing I wanted more then to be home with my folks. I was not homesick. I just wanted to be in the woods with Dad. Dad an I shared a special bond with hunting...
He will tell you one of these days... I did. And later, when he is out there with his son the circle, so to speak, will continue.
Great story and great holiday... Keep it up
Curt (Guru),
You hit the nail on the head there pardner!!
My wife and I had the pleasure of spending an evening with the Golder family this summer when they were in CO on vacation. You won't find a nicer group of folks anywhere.
Tim you are truly a blessed man. Enjoy your Thanksgiving and your time with Tim. Jerry

Wow...thanks guys for the compliments, not a finer group of folks than those on Trad Gang!
Curt, sometimes I'm kind of quiet but I don't miss much. Last winter at the rabbit hunt I never tired of watching you with your son. Your first class brother and without question one of the finest fathers I've ever seen.
Thanks Pat...it was our pleasure having you and Rose to dinner. Plus, we did have one of the most beautiful views Colorado has to offer!
Hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!

Love the father/son/daughter stories. Keeping the hunting traditions alive is such an important part of the American culture.
