Title: ouch...man down!
Post by: jim ratcliff on November 22, 2010, 01:29:00 PM
between moving to our new house and work,my bow season kinda fizzled out. this past weekend i was invited to hunt with some friends for the V.A. gun opener...long story short, you dont need a tree stand to hurt yourself!  :readit:   while walking down a slight incline i hit the ground before i knew it with a poping and crunching in my left knee...very painful and after a trip to the e.r. im now on crutch's and get to visit the nice Orthepedic surgeon next week.
it was a accident pure and simple...be careful guys and gals...and kill one for me!

It was the extra weight of the GUN!

Hope you heal fast and stay away from that heavy stuff.  :archer2:

Charles K. - I hate to disagree with you, but there is no gravity....sometimes the whole world just sucks....   :saywhat:

Jim - Sorry that you busted up your knee. Welcome to the bum knee clan.    :bigsmyl:

At least its a good excuse for extra help in moving. It worked for me about 5 years ago when I broke my shoulder the week before I was to move out of my house, you find out who your good friends are at least. Good luck with the surgery.  Chris

Sorry for your kneesles. A real friend would cart you out to a ground blind & cut you loose. Prayers for quick recovery.

Went Bhunting this evening and was planning on slippin down some of the hunt club rds with my black lab - it was the begining of the hunt still at the truck and he (Mac my lab pup at 70 lbs) was burning some energy out shooting around the truck running at high speed acting the fool. Well I egged on some if his energy calling him to me planning on bringing him into heel - he got that wild puppy run and proceeded to torpedo me right in the right knee cutting me for a flip - I know this is a dumb story but if you cannot laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at.

I am limping now but really took more injury to my pride than to my knee.

I hope your knee is alright and the doc gives you the clear. It is true that an accident can get you at anytime be it a bonafide accident such as yours  or a self induced dumb moment such as mine!    :knothead:

It may suck but you can always count on it to do what gravity does 100% of the time.

I am amazed at the amount of time I spend thinking about gravity and all it does for us and all of the things I blame on it.

I even gave some consideration to gravity being even greater under the sloes of my feet but It' getting a little better with 30 lbs gone.

Now days if I drop or knock something off my 1st thought is to give thanks for gravity and tell myself it can't fall any further than it is right now.

That my friends is why I do all of my hunting from the ground, I can't fall any further than Terra Fer-ma...lol

God bless,Mudd

It sure slows you down to take s tumble. Last July 12 I fell 12 feet off a cliff onto the rocks on the beach. Got a cracked bone on my wrist and one in my elbow and my face rearranged. The one nagging problem is the ligaments in my bow arm. I am going WT hunting for 8 days and forced to use a crossbow. Hopefully get back to the longbow soon.

Had knee surgery on the 14th of Oct. Did about the same thing as you. Lissen to the voice of experaince DON'T RUSH IT after surgery! It was right in the middle of my season but I wish I had taken it a little easier. Just do what the doc says and it will heal fast enough. Takes about 6 wks.
Good Luck

I feel your pain!!!  Just yesterday while walking in my house with an arm full I stepped on my dog's bone and went down like a ton of bricks.  Sprained my ankle real good (thank goodness, no fractures) and I'm laid up with an air cast and crutches for a few days.  Our gun opener is next Monday.  Hope that you heal quick, I know I'll be testing mine everyday when I get out of bed...Mike

Gell well soon. Hope things work out. Rehab Rehab Rehab - Don't let up on that, it works.

Did that out west years ago, and got a cactus bonus all long the side of my leg. Ouch.
