This past weekend, after over two weeks of hunting various parts of Wisconsin, things finally came together for me while hunting just a few miles from home.
I was hunting a narrow strip of cedars that run out toward a cornfield to the west. Anticipating west to east morning travel, I was surprised by this eight pt. doing just the opposite. It had rained the night before, so I never heard his approach through the thick cedars.
When I first saw him, he was 15 yards and closing. I thought for sure I'd get busted, but he continued by me at four yards. I let him get broadside before I drew, and hit him about mid-body as he quartered past. He kicked his back legs out and bolted north and then disappeared to the east. I waited an hour and found him about eighty yards away. He'd just made it out of my sight before going down.
After blowing a shot at a different eight pt. in northern Wisconsin a week and a half earlier, I was more than happy with this buck on the tail end of vacation time.

Good job!
Nice buck, funny how things turn out sometimes.
Thanks everyone. I apologize for the "backyard" photography...I don't like it either. But when we went in to retrieve him, the camera batteries were as dead as the buck. There's a lesson to be learned there. ishoot4thrills, he was taken from a treestand, set about 15' up with good cedar tree coverage around me. I actually prepped the stand the afternoon before I shot him.
Nice buck, congrats!

Congats on a nice buck. And the "backyard" picture is way better than a "backofthetruck" pic. He reminds me of a buck I missed a chance at when I was a teenager. (and that's been a while ago).
Nice deer proud for you!
Great job!
now if you could get your son to connect for once...
Congrats
FoCoBlackWidow, you just aren't getting enough arrows into the air. I just keep my line in the water and once and awhile something good happens. Besides, you're way ahead of where I was at your age.
How's that mule deer hunt looking for next year?
awesome!! nice buck and great looking camo that stuff is soft and stretches nice
That full set of camo also dates how long I've been at this, 'cause I bought it new and it hasn't been available for quite awhile. I love the stuff and hope I can milk a bunch of years of wear out of it yet.
Congrats, great buck!
Nicely done!
Gary that is one fine buck!! congratulations!
ATA-BOY I don't live that far away Knobby HAVE GRILL WILL TRAVEL.
PA-Spot, what city do you live in? We have a winter Wednesday trad-only night if you're nearby.
Congrat's
 Congrats on a great deer!
Hey FoCoBlackWidow, We have another horse of a whitetail running around the area, you're just going to have to buy a NON-resident tag and put some arrows in the air. Knobby can help you drag him out.
Great buck Gary, congrats on a nice comeback.
Great to see that there were a couple of close encounters with the big boys on the 200 this year. I'm ok with exchanging the cost of a WI non-resident tag for a resident bull elk tag out here; it's slightly cheaper for me to come back then it is to get a non-res out here! Why do you think I'm talking Knobby into a hunt in Colorado next fall?
SWEET! Congrats brother, well done!
