Sent in a order for The Hunter yesterday..66" and #53 @ 28"... Cocobolo Riser with Walnut Limbs and Black Glass
Any of you guys have a Bama? If so it'd be nice to see a picture and how do you like it?
(just joined to forum yesterday)
I have no pictures of the bow. I think it is a very nice shooting bow. Very quiet smooth drawing with good arrow cast. Great bow for the money. It is as nice as some I have shot for twice the money. I traded one of mine to a member here. Maybe they will chime in on the subject. You will be happy with your new bow.
Here is the Bama Beast! 102# at 28"

I have Bama Hunter and a Royal both are 50 @28, the Hunter is very liteweight bow and is one the smoothest drawing longbows that I have ever shot! The Royal is a lot heavier bow and is quite a lot faster, as there are more laminations on the limbs, although they are the same poundage they shoot a lot differant, I have to use a lot heavier arrow with my Royal! I love them both, you can't go wrong with Nates bow he a very underated bowyer! My son LimbLover also has 2 Bamas and is going to get a third one!

Raging Water: How good can you shoot that BEAST? lol I bet its unaccurate past 15 yrds!Idk how many arrows I could handle a session (prolly 10-20)
If I ever buy a longbow a Bamabow is what I will be buying.

Well, this is Nate shooting my bow. He is shooting at a small target 50 yards away. He hits the target 2 out of 3 shots.

Here is my Bama Hunter. Stained Curley Maple. Nate builds a fine bow, you made a good choice. I love the two piece.

I like the TD system, may try and get one next summer!
My wife and I both ordered Hunters. They are shipping out tomorrow!! Crossing my fingers they come in before Friday so we can have the weekend to start enjoying them. Have heard nothing but great things and can't wait.
RusD, make sure you get some pics for us. I'm sure you'll be very happy with your bows. Enjoy!
RusD: Im with DannyBows let us see some pictures whenever you get em..also the wood type!
Definitely will give it a try. I haven't posted any pictures, but I'm sure I can figure it out. Woke up this morning with a "teaser pic" in my email. The next few days are going to be long, hoping for the mail to bring an early Christmas.
Here's my Royal. I had to post it. All this Bama talk gets me excited, and ol' Nathan has something really special cooking in the works.
Stay tuned...

I have a 2 piece Hunter that is alomost the twin of DannyBows bow - great looker and shooter. However, I just do not shoot it and am willing to move it if anyone is interested.
Dang you guys hides! Now look what you've done... looked at your pics, went to Nate's website, now I've got a Hunter on order. 68" 58# walnut limbs with two extra bamboo lams, bubinga riser, bloodwood accent strip and overlays. It's all your fault! Now, which one of you is gonna explain this to my wife?
HAHAH...blame it on the power of suggestion (and social media).
Limblover: Are you the one who wrote the huntin story on his website? You avatar picture looks like it!

Yeah i'll take it if you'll give it to me? ;)
Zwickey2bl that bow sounds real nice. Make sure you give us a peak when you get it.
A811 should have to deal with your wife, this was his thread right? LOl!
I got mine in so asap I'll get some pictures posted.
If I own a quieter, gentler on the bow hand bow that has more point-ability, I ain't remembering at this moment.
God bless, Mudd
Mudd I forgot you ordered one. I know you have experience with these types of bows. This is my first real straight limbed longbow. It's good to know your impressions are the same as mine. How does she compare to the Hills you've shot?
LimbLover,
that is one great looking bow!

I dont know about that!
Quote: DannyBows "How does she compare to the Hills you've shot?"
I like them both... but a Hill is... well it's a Hill and I've added one back into the herd. It could be here tomorrow, if not one day next week.
Coming is a HH Big 5 68" 50@28. I can't wait to put it through it's paces.
If the throat is better in the morning my "Hunter" will be getting the call.
God bless,Mudd

Tomorrow morning, I will get up; have some coffee, grab my HH Wesley and my Bama Beast. Out the door I go for a little target practice before heading to the office.
How does my Bama shoot compared to my Howard Hill?
Differently. The Bama has more weight in the riser. The Bama has a tiny bit less smooth draw (but it is also 66" and the HH is 68").
They feel different but I love the way they both feel and shoot.
Thanks Matt and Mudd. One of these days I'll have to get myself a Hill. It'll have to be a 2pc though. No more long 1pc bows for me. The boats crowded already, and hauling one on my motorcycle is too much of a chore.
Well, as they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions..lol
The Big 5 came in the mail today and I fully intended to get pictures of it and the Bama Hunter but it didn't happen.
I hunted with my Bama bow this morning and after just a few shots with Paladin(my Big 5) I decided that touching the tennis ball at 33 yards qualified it to go on my evening outing.
I killed every deer I saw tonight...lol
God bless,Mudd
The only draw back to the Hill I can see is the shiny finish on the black glass. I'll hunt around in the shop tonight for an extra pair of snake skins(Alaska Bowhunting supply).
I am almost positive I am going to try the plasti-dip spray. I have read some good things about it and removal isn't a problem.
God bless,Mudd
I do like the finish Nate uses on the Hunter. It's perfect for hunting.

You are right on the money with that statement.

Cant wait to get mine!

She's a beauty Mudd. I'm pretty new to shooting D-Shape, straight limb bows, but I've always loved the the lines of them strung. So much beauty in the simplicity of them. It's not hard to see why Howard settled on them as his ultimate choice in bow styles. Someday I hope to master mine well enough to hunt confidently with it. Congrats on your fine Bama Hunter!
That's my new-to-me HH Big 5 with socks on laying across the top of the barrel
God bless,Mudd
My BamaBows Hunter

Sweet looking Hunter Cottonwood! I like that 2 arrow bow holder, first time I've seen that.
Mudd: I like yours (the one standing up) very nice..what wood is the riser?
Cottonwood: I like yours as well..nice and simple.
Simplicity is the key to true beauty in bows. IMO (wow that sounded like a poet)
I haven't decided on the next model BamaBows I'm gonna get yet, they are simply smooth and dead nuts accurate.
Here is a logo I worked on for Nate, anyone is free to use this if they want.
I thought his logo was already something similar to that?
But i do like seeing that other people shoot and love his bows! Makes me know I made the right choice! I've heard they arent the fastest around but that doesnt matter to me as long as they are accurate and quiet! I like heavy and hard hitting instead of speed anyways, but I want it to be DEADLY quiet!
I just got in from shooting mine, and it is Deadly quiet. You'll be happy when yours arrives.
Im confident I will be
One of the best bows i've ever shot was a bama, probably going to be my next bow...
Christmas cant get here fast enough! Prolly gonna go stumpin as soon as I open it! I'll most likely shoot it a week before I take it in the woods that way Im confident unless I just pick it up and can wack and stack!
I took mine with me to hook up with some friends for a day of shooting and I didn't hear even one negative comment about my Bama bow.
I am giving serious consideration to giving up all of my non-Hill style bows. At least then if I want to shoot several different bows they'll all have design in common.
God bless,Mudd
I like R/D bows but also like Hill style bows, looks like Im goin in the direction of Hill style bows for the time being! If I love my Bama enough I'll just get a lighter and heavier version! That way I'll have like a #40, a #53, and prolly a #65-70.
Thanks for starting this thread. I have been trying to decide on my next bow and have been visiting Bama Bow website a lot. It looks like the decision has been made. That stained curley maple is beautiful!
Hope you like it misfire! Cant wait for mine
For those of you that are apprehensive about buying a Bama Bow. I just have this to say.
I would compare Nates bows with any of the bigger names that I have owned including HH. Nate builds a superior product and should be charging far more than what he does. One day when his name gets bigger his prices will have to go up as all the big boys do. If you wait, you'll wish you hadn't.
If your really looking buy one now You won't regret it!
Harold,
Actually, Nathan has gone up a little already. He used to sell the Hunter for onlt $279!!!! Can you believe it? Great bow at an incredible price.
I suggest we flood him with orders until he is a year out like the big boys. Buy 'em while they are cheap!
Matt
This thread prompted me to pull my Hunter out the other evening. I'm ashamed to say I had ignored her for awhile as I've been distracted with my Big Jim's and Ambush Bow. I've been shooting her in the dark, with a flaslight pointed at my target. I'm starting to get used to shooting in the dark and it's helping me to concentrate on my spot, and anchor. I have a bad habit of flicking my vision back and forth between the arrow point and my spot. Shooting in the dark eliminates that. Anyway, I had forgoten how incredibly quiet the Hunter is, and I love quiet! I'm off tomorrow and will get to shoot her in daylight. I'm going to try her with some heavier arrows than I usually shoot.
How much are they now Matt? I have two new guys that were shooting mine on Monday and asked me if I would find out.
Thanks in advance!
God bless,Mudd
Mudd: They are $389 plus a $17 shipping charge so it winds up being $406...not bad at all
I talked to Nathan and he said he had to raise prices because woods went up, so obviously he still wants to make them for the right price!
That's still great pricing, especially considering the outstanding quality. Even if you add $150 for the 2pc option, and I love mine, it still puts you at, or even below the starting point for most bows. The sleeve system he uses on his take-downs is great. It's fit perfectly and rock solid. Nate said it adds just a little weight to the riser and helps reduce the already low amount of shock/vibration. I picked-up some thick felt at Wally World and made a basic case that works well. Sure does make toting a long bow around a breeze. A 1pc just couldn't work for me.
$406 for a bow that can shoot with the best, ya gotta love it!
(pssst, but I only paid $279 for mine)
Matt :bigsmyl:
Matt, for the amount of lumber you need in a bow I'm surprised he didn't charge you double! Danny that is one nice looking bow.I really like the profile,it looks like it stores some power.
Done some testing on a buck my granddad killed this morning..I used my #47 recurve with a 2 blade 3 blade and 4 blade. I loved the 3 blade so thats what Im gonna shoot out of my Bama...thinkin bout the Magnus Snuffers.
My bows gonna be #53 so Im thinkin bout a 29" Easton Gamegetter 2117 w/ 400 spine 4" RW feathers and 150 grn Magnus Snuffer..whatcha think bout this arrow?
I love my Bama. Always been a recurve guy and this was my first longbow. Felt so comfortable with it this year that I used it as my primary for my elk hunt and killed a big bull with it ...Shawn
RusD: You never told us if you liked your bow or posted pictures!
I got me the hunter model, and then had nate make one for my daughter. He made hers to my specs,I think 62" overall 40 lbs @ 24".I'm lefty but tried her righty bow and love it.Nate said it would be 50lbs at 28".I'm looking to get a two peiece hunter soon.
Jackthepointer: How do you like your bow? Mine should get here by Christmas and thats my Christmas present..I can wait, I'm trying to decide on arrows right now
I just placed an order with Nate. I wanted to get my order in before the man gets too busy..lol
I ordered a 68" 50@28 straight grip. I am hoping he is able to secure yew because that's what I want in my limbs covered with black glass.
It would be really tough to beat Nates' matte finish.
I'm almost 100% positive I want bacote as my riser wood.
God bless,Mudd
I love me some cocobolo Mudd!
A811,I love my hunter,it is the first longbow I've owned.I am hooked on trad archery, and on the BAMA BOWS.I'm sure their are many who love the bows they have, but with my experience with Nate and his product I don't think I'll be buying bows from any other source. The price is right, and the quality is exceptional.(My experience talking which is only a year old)Enjoy the new bow.
Well, my wife and I have had our BamaBows for almost two weeks now. They are sweet. The more I shoot mine the more I love it. Nate does amazing work.
Mudd: bocote is a great looking wood. I used it to make a knife handle over the summer, fell in love with it, was going to use it in my riser unitl my wife decided that's what she wanted. Her riser is bocote with a bamboo accent, looks really good. I love the dark grain with the kind of golden color.
RusD I was wondering about your bows. I expected you were just busy shooting. Lol! No Pics for us bow junkies?
Mudd, the Bocote will be beautiful. I'll probably get it in mine also. I just emailed Nate some questions about my next Bama.
Ok, I cant stand it hyper link me and adress and contact infor on Bama....Mark#78
Mark, PM'd you Nates website link.
I know, sorry. Just couldn't seem to put them down long enough to take a picture. Not really but that is how I have felt. We did take a couple but they looked horrible when I pulled them up on the computer. I will try to get a few pics taken by this weekend and show them off.
