I went out to one of my favorite spots last night. I thought I was in for a busy evening of deer hunting even with the warm weather.
The location has a water source AND acorns still falling near the tree I climbed. It turned out I wasn't wrong about it being a busy afternoon.
Only problem was that it wasn't deer keeping me busy, it was bushy tails. I had a squirrel that wanted to be my best friend all afternoon. Several times he tried to climb into the stand with me, but at the last second though better of it!
His antics went on until I tried to make dinner out of him via a few arrows. I missed both shots and lost an arrow 25 feet up a tree that won't come out until the tree falls over! :knothead:
Anyway, it was a lot of fun and I though I would post a few pics and a short video I took of him! It's no great wonder I never saw a deer with all the pics, videos and the two shots I took! The arrow that stuck in the tree limb sounded like a gunshot when it hit.
The reaction of that squirrel was priceless when the arrow hit and stuck in the limb directly below him!
Here are the pics and video...
What kind of Oak are these leaves from?

And a short video right before I decided to try and make him dinner. Turnes out he had 9 lives. Or at least 3....

Charlie... thats a cool day.... That red tree rat is now your best bud....
At least you got to see a little "action". :D
Nice!
Them busy tails are fun. Great story. Looks like red oak.
I haven't been able to close the deal on a deer yet, but I do have a squirrel under my belt! Sure is fun too! Thanks for posting.
I was hoping he would volunteer for stew. Turns out he is better at climbing trees than I am at shooting my bow! Missed him at 16 yards on the ground and 12 yards in the tree. I'll use shooting upward as an excuse, but I don't think that'll fly too well since I shot down at him too. :banghead:
