Feels good! Thats what I said to some buds and my wife from the woods this morning. This hunting season has had more downs than ups for me until this morning. The wife had surgery about a month and half ago. Then a few weeks later we buried Granny after many years of declining health. So I was looking forward to this season more than most. The season started off with limited time because of having to catch up on work. The few times I did sneak out were far from relaxing. Seemed like everywhere I went problems, baiters near my stand, dogs, loosing two spots, a wound on a nice buck etc. etc. All that changed at 7:25 this morning. Had this buck follow my tarsal gland drag up the trail to my hiding spot. He was going to cross in front of me at about 12yds until a button buck showed up. This buck laid his ears back puffed up and proceeded to snort wheeze at his little friend. First time I've heard that vocalization in the woods. He left the trail to deal with his nemesis and I bleated to stop him at 19yds. Watched a beautiful arrow arch its way towards him and bury to the fletching. Watched him go down and I climbed down to take a look and enjoy that special time that follows. Looked around the woods and enjoyed the solitude and the approaching turkeys, things are looking up.
