Reading the post about eye contact! So how do you hide your eyes from deer? Here's what I've thought of:
Put circles on my face.
Wear a fox or coon face hat so they see them not me.
Squint or close one eye
-
I use camo facepaint. I "draw" line through my eyes in black to mask the outline of my eyes. Works well for me.
I tend to watch deer very closley when preparing for a shot...let's me know when to move, draw, etc. I made a shot just the other day. That buck was within 15 yards when I saw him. Had to grab my bow, stand, draw....got it done by watching him very closley.

I wear some camo glasses. They work great. Only problem is they take a bit to get used to, it's like looking through a screen. It gets rid of the dreaded "whites" of your eyes. Here's a link to some....

I've seen them at Wally World too for half price. Check 'em out. :saywhat:

i just don't make eye contact.
-
I wear a soft brimmed bucket style hat that I can pull down to kind of "hide" my eyes, yet the brim folds up, out of the way when I draw.
-
I tend to try to concentrate my gaze on "the spot" no matter how far the animal is...I watch the head and attitude in my peripheral to tell me when to draw ect. I think if you can avoid shifting eyes it will limit the whites moving....and I never look at the rack for very long LOL!
-
Just pray for really bushy eyebrows.
-
I agree with not making eye contact. I keep my head down to where I can see the feet and lower body of the deer until it looks away. The brim of my hat hides my eyes.

-
Anything that keeps your face from looking like an owl's will work. I just squint inside my face mask so my eyes don't show as round.
-
If they see your eyes and bolt, you didnt have a prayer to get a shot off anyway in my opinion. They would have to be awfully edgey for the tiny little whites of your eyes to bother them at hunting distances.
-
Those glasses would be sweet but, I can't go without my glasses so their out.
I just try not to make eye contact & focus on the spot I want.
-
If I want to totally hide my face, I have an ASAT face cloth hung from my hat band with slits cut into it for my eyes. But most of the time, I'm either painted, or use my ASAT 3D leafy head cover.

   oooops. sorry, thought you were kidding.
OK, seriously, deer key in on movement, so freeze. Just steer at it. Don't move, don't blink.
Edit: I would like to add to this that I work grave yard shift and being extremely tired from having a hard night at work the camouflaging your eyes thing just totally tickled my funny bone. No harm or disrespect meant. Just some stress release that I really needed. Thanks

So how do you "camo your eyes"?
Squint.
And, like in the last Indiana Jones: "Only the penetant man may pass" . . . be humble and look away or look down. ;-)
-
My eyes are brown. :D
-
I switched to a headnet a few years back to cover my face and hide any "shine" from exposed skin I forgot to cover with face paint.
Very important for ground hunters. Even though the headnet has a nice opening for my eyes, if a deer gets that close to see my eyes....he better have an arrow in him or I'm field dressing him.

So how do you "camo your eyes"?
Just get your wife or girlfriend really upset with you before going hunting, and they will camo them for you making them good and black n blue
-
Like someone already mentioned, I squint.
-
If you drink a bottle of brandy the night before, yours eyes should be pretty blood shot! :knothead:
-
the does like my eyes. I batt my lashes at them and they just lose it. Don't want no camo
OK Killie. . be nice

-
Kevin, if I drank that bottle of brandy the night before, I would need those Depends to stay on stand.
-
for some of you just let that uni-brow grow out. for the rest of us A nice earth tone eye shadow with some black to make it pop,or just get a short brimmed hat and bend it down a bit.
-
I close my eyes

Be careful, Chuck. I tried that once during late season. Turned out my "doe" was a shed buck. Next thing I know I was running for my life with that song from the Blue Oyster bar in Police Academy going through my head.
:scared:

I think it's a good question... For those of us who wear glasses that make our eyes look bigger than they actually are. Face paint or a mask can only do so much at "close range". Guess the (trick) for me is to hide my face behind my bow. Talking hunting from the ground here fellas..... At eye level.....

Had a button buck walk straight toward me at 5 yards on the ground and I just looked at him and he looked right through me. He turned sideways and I let him continue and he had no clue I was there. Didn't do anything special with my eyes and wear a homemade deerskin face mask.
-
wow. now that will keep you alert on stand Jason. Since I tend to like the ground in the late winter hunting, that could be one for the video.. . or not.
Read your article in TBM. Sorry to hear about Emmett. That was a fun hunt. I think I am going to be out of country for this years hunt unless it is early in January. Cricket is still around, and in fact, since I read her the article, she is starting to be very demanding since she thinks she is famous now.
Gotta rethink the eyes thing for a while

Chuck,
Emmett's still around, but we thought we were going to have to put him down a few weeks after that hunt. Thanks to some good medication and rest, he's doing fine...for now. Since I don't want to agrivate his back, his only bunny chasing is the occasional yard rabbit, which runs under the fence after a lap or two around the shed.

Seriosly, I do everything I can do to NOT make eye contact. I look down, close them, etc.....

Jeff, I know! a friend of mine makes some of that stuff...UF DA!
-
I don't worry about my eyes. I just don't stare at theirs.
-
I wear a camo headnet that keeps the bugs off, and leaves nothing but my eyes exposed. To take care of them I got this great pair of hologram glasses specially made for hunting. These babies work great and I've not been busted in them yet.

It's a wonder Hill and Pope and Young ever shot anything, with the clothing they wore!
-
GrayRhino that pic freaked me out, I really wasn't ready for it! Lol! Kind of gives you an Owlish look that Deer wouldn't spook over.
-
I guess a guy could get a pair of those wild contact lens. Saw some not to long ago that had spider web pattern in them, and some that look like a snakes eyes. If they saw you it would scared them half to death.
