My Trad hunting season is probably over. I go in Wednesday for umbilical hernia surgery. From what I hear it will probably be 4 to 6 weeks before I will be able to start shooting my bow again. I doubt I'll maintain the strength to be able to shoot as consistently as I want in order to go to the woods and hunt deer. Oh well, there is always next year.
Bill
Good luck and I hope for a speedy recovery. Don't let it get you down, there is always next year. Get out in your hunting area and just observe.
thats the spirit,I hope you have a fast recovery.
I had hernia surgery earlier this year and was told I'd be out of work for at least a week or two. Different type of hernia, but still. I missed a day and that was because it hurt to drive. I definitely needed the weekend to recoop though. You'll be fine.
At least this way you'll have an excuse to have someone else drag, load, and skin your deer.
Best of luck Bill, we will be thinking of you. Just look at the bright side. This will give you more time to watch the classifieds and snatch up the good deals before we see them.
Good luck Bill. I feel for you. I had hand surgery in April, and had to have it again in June. My hand was in a cast for 3 months. I missed all of NYs turkey season. I got my accuracy back in no time.
Prayers for a good surgery and speedy recovery. I know your trad hunts are probably over for the year, but I hope you can still get out in the woods.
 Hope you get well soon and get out there to just take a walk and look around....shooting will come back soon enough!
My prayers are with you Bill.
It's a good thing when it's something that surgery can fix and you can look down the road to a time when you can be back at it again.
God bless,Mudd
Hope all goes well with the surgery. Maybe you could take a kid out and still get in the woods?
Good Luck and hoping you have a quick recovery!
Praying for a quick and complete recovery.
Dave
Hang in there. Maybe it will go better and easier than you think and you can get back to shooting.
Best of luck.
My best to you Bill I hope you have a speedy recovery.
Keep a positive attitude, and do what the doctors recommend.
Best of luck...I`ll put in a good word for you. :campfire:
Our prayers are with you. Stay positive and keep us informed.
Bill, that's rough. I can tell you that I've been trying to keep my dad's spirits up. A week before our season started he was rushed to the hospital with a perforated appendix. He spent over a week in the hospital and is still recovering. The toughest part for him is the mental aspect of not being able to hunt. Get well soon Bill and look forward to the next season you can get out there.
Prayers for a quick recovery.
Ohhh noooooo. I'm going to the doc on Dec 1 for a consultation on the same thing!!!!!!
I think I will postpone any surgery until after hunting season. So far it has not hurt to shoot my bow.
Good Luck!!!!!!
Here's to speedy recovery... :clapper: :clapper:
Good luck with this Bill. Make sure the doctor knows you are a lefty and have a thing for Silvertips. You'll get the VIP treatment for sure! Look around the office first though and make sure there are no PETA or USHumane Society posters hanging!
I was packed, with my bow, extra arrows, string, sleeping bag, etc. on the deck 40 minutes ago. Ready for my delayed annual trip to Indiana to hunt with my best friend. Doctor called. Said my MRI yesterday revealed more than cartilage damage in my knee. Torn cartilage, partially torn MCL, and completely torn ACL. He said to "take it easy". I'll see the ortho guy at noon today. "Easy better not mean no climbing trees (climbing them doesn't hurt so much but coming down is a chore). I'll simply stay close to home in my local trees so the wife doesn't have so far to come fetch me.
I've had an umbilical hernia since birth. Doc says I should have it fixed but to date it hasn't caused me any problems.
Everyone,
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. I'm not going to let it keep me down. I plan on going to a Squire Parsons concert Saturday at a church near our home.
Bowwild,
I'm glad I wasn't drinking coffee or a Diet Dr. Pepper when I read your comment "I'll simply stay close to home in my local trees so the wife doesn't have so far to come fetch me." I got a good chuckle out of it as it was.
KentuckyTJ,
You needn't worry about me looking through the classifieds and beating ya'll to "all of the bargains." I have all of the bows in my collection that I want and need. :) :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Bill
best of luck. you will be new and improved for next year.
Good Luck Bill! :archer:
Good luck on the surgery. Hopefully you will be stronger for next years season.
God's blessings. Take it slow
Have a good recovery. Good luck with the surgery
Good luck Bill with surgery and recovery.
Good luck to you Bill on a speedy recovery...do you still have that Fox Triple Crown? If so, hopefully she is treating you well.
Travis
Take it slow and Heal fast.
Butch L
Best of luck Bill.
Hopefully this surgery is merely a minor set back.
Bill,
Have you talked to your doc about using the mesh? STRONGLY suggest you get a positive answer to the question.
As for me, the first time the doc went in to do the repair he decided "nah, he didn't need to". When I came out of the surgery... I was ticked.
Because of the first doctor's "ill decision", I had to have it done AGAIN 3 years later. The second time, the 45 minute surgery took 3.5 hours (to repair all of the micro tears and then install the mesh... as should have been done the first time).
Best wishes.
David
good luck bill! as my mama used to say "i can't give up"
Squire Parsons.......I liked the old song he wrote "Singing Through the Fire".
Go easy at the concert now, don't run any aisles. You don't want to strain anything!
:)
David,
Yes, he used the mesh to strengthen the wall. He told me that I now have an inny belly button. :) :biglaugh:
Bill
Good Luck Bill, you're do fine! Be back huntin' before you know it...just listen to the doc most of the time they know best!
good luck and don't push it.. They say take it easy for a month, they mean A MONTH.. do it.. Joe
Good luck Bill,don't give up.
Now you've got a bullet-proof Kevlar gut! Prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery, Bill!
Bill,
I had the same surgury a couple of years ago, If I remember I was shooting my bows within a week. It will be sore for a bit but heals real fast. My doc used the mesh also.
i hope you recover quickly sir!
Since you have the mesh...now you can start buying - and using - some of those 75 and 80# bows!
P.S. Inny belly buttons are just dust collectors.
Godspeed to you, Bill!

David,
Unfortunately, he didn't operate on my right shoulder. That's why all of my bows are in the 45# to 47# range!
Bill
:)
I do Orthopedic rehab. for most of my income, and I keep my bows in the high 40s to low 50s as a general rule. Since I only shoot 3D and hunt only Eastern whitetail... well, there's no reason (that I can think of) to go higher.
Best wishes on the recovery!
David
Best wishes Brother.
I just sent a prayer for a successful surgery and complete recovery. I'm glad you let us know and you will soon be hunting trad again.
It's been two days since the surgery and I feel much better today than I did yesterday. I quit taking the Tylenol III and started taking my Naprocen.
Bill
You are in my prayers.
I appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers. I'm feeling much better today. I can get out of bed and out of my recliner now without feeling pain! AMEN!!
Bill
I know that feeling. Last year I had problems with my left hand and my right rotator cuff was torn. I had a radical hand surgery in December that required about 8 months for full recovery. I also went through some non surgical sports med procedures on my shoulder and it took about 7 months to repair all of that damage. In short, last season was a bust.
Best of luck to you and we're hoping for your speedy recovery. You'll be back better than ever.
Well I had to go back to the Doctor this morning. I got up as usual, went out and got the paper, fixed my bowl of cereal and sat down to eat. As I was reading the bottom of one page my lower peripheral vision picked up a dark blotchy stain on the t-shirt I wore to bed. I lifted it up and there was a bunch of dark, dried blood in my belly button.
The doctor cleaned out the dried blood and said it was a clot that blew out of one of the blood vessel ends that he had seared shut during the button up procedure. He said it wasn't unusual and that it likely occurred when I strained for a bowel movement or when I reached to catch myself when I stumbled.
I actually think it was due to an overly long day of work yesterday plus a 3 hour Deacon's meeting on top of it. It was a long tiring day. Even though the doctor said I could shoot my bow in 6 weeks, I'm now thinking more like February. I want to heal completely and thoroughly before I try to go back to shooting my recurve. I haven't even looked at my bows in since a week ago Saturday when I went for a morning of deer hunting 4 days before my surgery. Can't go there, they are so pretty I would be tempted!
Bill
Glad you're feeling better!!!!!!!!!
Best of luck on a speedy recovery.
Good luck to you! I hope you are back doing what you love soon.
Good luck Bill. Your health is way more important than a hunt!! You can live with out hunting...
Thoughts and prayers for you Bill. Just don't push it.
You will be back next year and that may even be pig hunting the end of Feb.

Earl,
Oh so true. And in the middle of March SC's turkey season opens on private land. The land where I deer hunt has an abundance of turkeys to hunt.
