Title: Questions about South Cox Longbow
Post by: sbschindler on November 07, 2010, 09:59:00 AM
I was on the phone the other day talking to South about his recurve bows and he said he  had a takedown longbow, he was offering now. It sounded like his T/D longbow would have pretty much the same riser as his recurve and it would be able to use recurve limbs as well as longbow limbs, Has anybody seen or shot this bow yet, looking for some feed back.

Steve,
It's unlikely that you will find any feedback from the Gang.  His 3 pc longbow is currently in the R & D phase. He has built a few of them but they are only prototypes.

That being said, I do have one of his prototypes and will share some insight.  It's a smooth shooting longbow.  No hand shock, quiet, points very well and the speeds are comparable to his recurves.  I can only foresee this bow getting even better.

I'll post a few pics, but please keep in mind that this is one of his first bows.  Much has gone into the design and aesthetics since then. Production of these longbows should begin in December. (That's if South decides to take a break from hunting. LOL! He's currently field testing his longbows)

I'll be more than happy to address any additional questions.

South has one more hunt schedualed with his longbow, and then he is sending it to me for a trial. I was hoping someone would respond that had shot it, I;m just getting a little antsi.

Let me know how you like it after you get the chance to shoot it! Looks like South may have to change his name from Stalker Custom Recurves to Stalker Custom Stickbows.  :D

Will the recurve and longbow limbs fit on the same riser or will they be total differant?

he told me tht his longbow riser will use both longbow limbs and recurve limbs, but I am not real sure of the details.

Yes Howler is correct.  The new riser (coming out in December) will accomodate for both longbow and recurve limbs.
Keep in mind that the new longbow limbs will not interchange on his current recurve riser.

I have no doubt that South's new long bow will be a winner. I love his recurve. South is a very talented bowyer and his bows are excellent...my .02 cents...

I like the look of that shelf. If the grip is similar to the recurve it should be a winner. Absolutely, one of the best grips available out there. South does fine work, and has a great eye for putting wood combinations together.

Hey S2 is the stalker longbow cut to center or past? He makes a great recurve good to see him have a longbow model coming around.

Troy,  it's cut past center.  Yeah I'm glad that he came out with a 3pc longbow.  It's definitely my favorite type of stickbow.

Aloha!
