Ok, this past week at work was crazy busy, and I did get up early this morning to be in the stand pre-dawn but still, this afternoon was the first time I've caught myself nodding off. I went back out to a ground blind to hunt from 3:00 to 6:00 today and I guess that blind was a little too cozy, because after a couple hours of sitting, I performed that big nod. You know, the one where just before your head hits you chest you jerk upright.
Ever happen to you?
One of the best naps I've ever had was in the woods! I woke up 10 feet from my set up. Lol! Didn't see a thing that afternoon but boy was I rested.
Keeping the Faith!

Yep
Often... only short little nods... but a lot of 'em!
3 years ago did that in a ladder stand, woke up right when my butt cleared the seat of the stand. Good thing I was wearing a harness. Still only hunt on the ground, as long as it's legal.
Many time in the blind, just so tired I layed corner to corner. Out stalking, found a nice spot... NAP time.
If I can get warm, then I am taking a nap. I'm not seeing many deer yet...maybe I should stay awake.
Just "Combat Naps". I'm thinking of trying Jeff from New Zealand's technique. Spot-Stalk-Sit-Nap.
That's one of the reasons I wont hunt from a tree stand. Don't care to wake up hanging from a harness.
I've fallen asleep many times. My Summit climber is the most comfortable stand I've ever had and sleeps great. I'm strapped in and would have to work at it to fall out.
I'm an oilfield hand and work long days and nights so when I get a day to hunt it usually is after a long stint at work. If I'm warm I'll nap from time to time. Hard to say how many deer have passed by me over the years.
Never in a tree. I just put a 10 penny nail in the middle of the seat--not about to fall!!! Did I say I have a problem with height??
Really I have too much fun watching critters--squirrels falling from trees, mink chasing each other, racoons, turkey etc.!!
My huntin' pard' is at his best asleep in the woods--says he's scouting for elk??!!
Yes, this year during elk season I nodded off (on the ground in the sun) when I opened my eyes an elk was standing 10 yards in front of me, board side no less and nothing I could do about it..... That sucked.

Yep, I nodded-off in a natural blind on a dam down in the Simpson Desert, and awoke to the snorting of a huge brumby stallion and his family. It was a great encounter, but no shots were quite presented.
Yes... And Love It! Beautiful Dream Time... ;) On the ground only.
... mike ...
ground blind, warm sun, few deer....nap time......
yes...But only while hunting from the ground.
I have taken lots of naps in trees, I also have one of the older summit revolutions, most comfortable chair I own. I also hooked my arms through the ladder sticks of a stand in Canada on an all day hunt this year and caught a few zzzzzs
Checked my eyelids for holes this afternoon; an unusually warm, sunny day. It felt pretty good.
dirtguy, about 7 years ago I nodded off before sundown in a tree. I climbed this knarly old tree with lots of places to support arms and legs. No harness, it was scouting time. Foolish me, I should have tied myself in or had a harness. When I awoke there was a fawn looking up at me. Her mother, grazing a few feet away, couldn't care less! Eventually, the fawn lost interest and moved on. It was a funny sensation waking up with small eyes on me.
I used to fall asleep in the treestand a lot more than I do now. I little more afraid of falling out, and try not make myself so comfortable. I have also decided to try the stay-awake caffeine tablets when I am really tired to help stay awake: so far so good
Many times, best sleep you can have.
Not since I got my CPAP.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.........Yep, a time or two.

One of the hazards of blind or treestand hunting. We've come up with a solution for the treestand. We wear a velcro headband and attach another piece to the tree. If we feel like a nap we just lean back until the headband contacts the velcro on the tree and nod off. Keeps us upright. Makes a hell of a racket when you wake up though but we're working on that. 8<)

i do, i dont even fight it. if im out and not in a hot spot and my eyes get heavy i just go ahead and sleep! got some of my best naps in the woods. lol
How do you not snooze? Warm sun, peaceful, quiet, out in God's country, what can be more relaxing.
I agree with BCWV,my summit stand is as comfortable as my recliner.About ten in the morning with the sun shining on you its hard to keep your eyes open.
Always!!
I beleive it was the year before last when I noded right out of my tree stand. That was a rude awakening.
Nothing better than a nap in the blind. I also like to sit on the ground with my back up against a tree. I can totally understand Rip Van Winkle

I thought it was a requirement !
One time in my younger days I found a tree with a big crooked limb, almost like a cradle. After climbing the tree I was soon asleep on the big limb. I don't know for sure how long I slept but that rain sure woke me up. I don't know why the thunder never. :banghead:
Nod off ,I wake myself up snoring some times while calling.
It is pretty bad when you rize from a nap in a blind to be stiring a turkey eye to eye! I even had to stalk a buck after he had walk through my shooting lanes once. Working hard and hunting hard for weeks on end is taxing after awhile. I get more naps in during the hunts than any time of year. :bigsmyl:
Some of the best naps i have evr had have bee outdoors and now it seems,in a ghillie.
In Northern Alberta I was in a tree. I went up for a month to help a guide set up camp and bait, three weeks of work in exchange for a week of bear hunting.( Nice to be young with no responsibilities) I was exhausted and had caught pnemonia. My first day in the stand I must have dozed off. I awoke to a bear rolling around on its back! It had eaten all the beaver carcasses, and I never heard a thing. I made the shot and got myself a nice Alberta blackie, the funny part is when I looked at my watch, I was asleep for OVER THREE HOURS in a treestand. Hows that for a nod off!
Hey Yornoc - best so far, and best reward!
Based on what I'm hearing, I need to let myself go ahead and nap if I really want to get that big buck that's been eluding me.
I just worry that the snoring will scare away every living thing within a mile!
I fell asleep at the base of a tree many years ago. Woke to find a buck about 25 yrds away sneaking through a pine stand. Took him easily. He had no clue I was there.
I fell asleep during bear season in my Summit climbing stand and woke up in the dark!!!!. want to talk about confusion.
Yeah - woods naps are the best naps.
I have gone in when the sun was out 330pm and woke up at 8pm best sleep ever in a tree.
I am a master of tree stand and blind naps.
I'll doze a lot more than I used to since switching to a Tree Saddle. No more waking up in a panic.
I remember in my late teens I was hunting my aunt and uncle's place. I found a place where bed rock was exposed and moss had grown in a thick layer. It was in a hard wood stand that boarders a mountain laurel thicket. God even seen fit to put a large root at the top. I figured I could lay there and watch for deer coming out of the thicket. The sun rays came down thru the trees and warmed me right up. I was sleep good when I awoke to rustling leaves and thought I was dreaming it at first. Looked around and nothing, tried to get back to my afternoon nap when I heard the rustling again. I would hear and it would stop. Well about 15 mins of this and one of the biggest toms I ever recall comes out into view. I miss the shoot but man what a nap.
Yep.I was sitting in a chair in a groundblind snoozing away.I had my head leaned down and I guess drool came out of my mouth, landed on my chest, got cold and woke me up.
About the only way I can sit still enough to let deer approach is when I doze off. It's a standard tactic anymore. Safety up and doze off. Wake up and look around a minute, doze back off. Espically early mornings before shooting light. ;)
I used to be scared to death that I would doze off and wake up dead from a fall from my tree stand. Now that I use a treesaddle, that's not a problem anymore.
More than I can count.
The more memorable moments:
Being waken by the sound of woody wood pecker just above my head while I was in my climber.
Thank God for my safety harness.
Sat down against the rock outcroping & then woke up to have 6 Does to chose from.
Turkey hunting, decided since it was slow I'd just lay back for a bit.
Wake up in time for my normal bed time.
Yep! Way too much.
Yes, Me and a good friend back in the late 80's used to take the week before gun season off work to hunt a farm in northern Ky. we used to have access to.(What I would give to get to hunt that farm now.) We were both in our early 20's and had graduated up to compounds at that time  and were master bowhunters. Anyway, one time I was pelted awake by him throwing rocks at me laughing his head off.(You know how good friends treat you.) The other time I was startled awake by the feeling of my bow slipping out of my hand. It fell a good 20 feet and hit the ground. When I climbed down to it my sight bar was the only thing that was damaged.I would be inclined to say that I would have been much better off if it had been broke beyond repair. But, as I was back then I would have just replaced it with another.(Yes) I was consumed by the dark side. It took me a few more years to re-discover the true joy of hunting. Now I mostly stay on the ground.
Yes I have, it seems I do it more often as I get older! Although my 11 year old son will nod off almost as soon as he sits down in our blind:)
I found a plywood and 2X4 stand once back in about a mile. It was in an area I wanted to hunt so I took up residence in it for an evening hunt. I fell asleep with both of my arms hanging over the railing. Woke up and both arms were ASLEEP! I couldn't have picked up my bow and shot it for several minutes...even if there was a 6X6 bull standing at 10yds! After I realized what I had done I laughed at myself.
