Just wondering who out there only uses one bow to target shoot,3-d, small game, big game, and your reason why, also what kind. Thinking myself of going that route, I don't need them all anymore.
Here's mine, it's a bamboo backed hickory 70" longbow with a ratan wrapped handle. 53# @ 28". I made this for a customer and then I couldn't find him to have him pay for it, he just vanished. If he ever shows up I'll sell it to him. But in the meantime it's my bow. Not fancy, no shelf, no rest, not fast flight campatible, just plain and simple, (a little like me I guess.) ya, my wife wishes
I shoot only one, My 44# Chek Mate hunter II. My 41# Kings pawn is on permanent loan to a friend I converted to recurve. I shoot one bow because I like my huneter II and I don't have to make any adjustments when I shoot.
Why wouldn't I shoot 3D with the same bow I hunt with. Makes perfect sense to me
Mike, love those long bows. Cool grip ya got there. I shoot my 70" yew Mahantango long bow for every thing.
I have been shooting (mostly) the same bow 4 years-have another identical one as back up. Recently I couldn't take it anymore and went on a buying binge-bought a whole bunch. Nice to have the variety, but they will be collecting dust before much longer.
Committing to one bow takes a lot of discipline especially if you belong to Trad Gang, but it does wonders for accuracy.
I was going to post something similiar. I keep going back and forth between my take down recurve and a red oak board bow I made over the summer. I assisted in the making of my recurve and made my red oak bow all by myself. So I'd love to kill something with my new longbow but then I feel as though I'm cheating on my recurve. I keep going back and forth. It's giving me a headache. I've spent more time this fall wondering if I'm hunting with the right bow rather than wondering if I'm hunting the right area. I'd love to be a one bow guy. It would certainly uncomplicate things. Accuracy would imrpove. But then I see a Hill or a Northern Mist and I start to wonder what it would be like... ARGHHH! There I go again.

Can't say I'm a one bow guy. For one thing it's nice to have a back-up...or even a different type bow just for a change of pace. That said, I do have a favorite longbow that I find myself continually going back to. Moreover, starting around the beginning of August each year I pretty much only shoot the bow I plan to take on my fall hunts that year.
i have 1 recurve 2 sets of limbs with the same poundage, just different lengths.small game,3d,all of the above...black widow pma2 56@28.the only thing i change is my arrow weights for 3d till seasons get closer then i go to my hunting arrow weight
I use the same bow for targets, 3Ds, small game and big game. The reason I shoot targets, small game and 3Ds is to get the most accuracy out of my bows for HUNTING. There fore I practice with the bow I hunt deer and elk with.

I am so to speak a one bow guy. I recently received my Beeler Tracker longbow and have already killed a hog with it and intend to harvest more. I have searched for years for a bow that by design would allow me with proper tuning to shoot a heavier arrow and head. This bow is what I call a bow of a life time. HOWEVER, I recently sent my Marriah Thermal recurve riser to Mike Mecredy to have some longbow limbs made for it. The reasoning being, I want a take-down in case I decide to travel and hunt, but the Beeler is my go to bow for all time. My Beeler gives me what I call "the sensation of the normal", which means that it has such comfort to shoot that it feels as though it is an extension of my body to the point that it draws smooth, anchors right where I want it, and the release is clean, and the arrow flys straight to the target. When I shoot this bow whether hunting or in the backyard I have confidence that I will hit the mark each time I release, and confidence is an important part of the success equation in traditional archery. This to me is a bow of a life time. I hope this makes sense.
None of us "need" to own more than one bow. For me, it's just hard to part with most of the bows that I have. Just dig 'em so much... Just before and during hunting season I'll use/shoot/hunt with only one.... Thinking that's smart.
... mike ...
Does owning two identical bows with a third matching bow on order count?
I've been shooting the same BW MAII for 20 years.
I have 1 laminated longbow, 1 recurve, and 1 self bow. Does that qualify? :D
I shoot only one bow at a time does that count. I switch back and forth year to year.
No. I wish it was so.
No way can I get by with just one bow. Wish I could but I can't (or don't want to....not sure which). :dunno:
I really want to be a one bow guy someday but for now its no contest I shot two different ones this afternoon.Still looking for the one to make me settle down.

Heresy!
Actually, I've been shooting only my #45 Martin Howatt Hunter for the past year and I think the only thing I'll replace it with is a self bow I hope to make this winter.
I have two Rose Oak King Panthers that are within 1 pound of each other. That's it, the rest are gone. Think my shooting has improved a bunch too, but that's just me. Narrowed down my arrow choices a bunch too.

I've been thinking of ordering a t/d longbow for spring turks. TP's longbow is so nice I bet he could put together a great t/d for me. Wait a second, I have a Sapphire Hawk I haven't looked at since Septmber. Its still rolled up in the case from my trip to Ray's. Should I sell my Massie to help finance a new one, I hardly touch it?
Obvoiusly no, and I've tried.
I only own one "good" bow at a time. I do trade/sell often though. I have an old beater for back up that is always around if needed. My recently aquired Robertson Fatal Styk may be around for a while, heckuva bow. A wise man onmce told me to stick with one bow and your shooting will improve, Im slowly proving him right to myself......LOL!
My plan after being on here for a bit and seeing all the great bows people are/were getting was to have a "stable" full. However now my thoughts are to having two only. Maybe not the two I now have, but one LB and one recurve. Well I may have my LB for good - Mowhawk 66" 54#@28. I sure like that one and haven't seen one to beat it. For now. Even with a really good picture, I find a big difference holding one than looking at it.
My recurve is a Chekmate Falcon 60" 54#@28 that is undergoing some handle work to fit better. It may move on, but for now my focus is to learn about my arrows. Rob S. told me it's all about the arrow. So I want to put my money into that part of the thing and see if I can get these two shooting right. Maybe a new Zipper or Stalker or Tall Tines or...
Shorter answer - No.
I have a couple of other bows hanging around but the only one I shoot all the time is my pronghorn. I've been shooting this for about 10yrs? And I think
the only other bow I would shoot would be another pronghorn. This bow fits me like my beautiful wife of 27yrs
Not me, but I am thinking of going to just one recurve and one longbow. Actually, I only have one longbow, a Don Dow that I just bought. It's the only longbow I have been able to get comfortable with. I would like to try a Beeler, though. As far as recurves, I only shoot one (BW PTF). The others are great bows (another BW, Greyling Bear SK, McCollough 59'er, Quinn, Hoyt, etc.) but they sit on the rack. They are too nice not to shoot. I am giving one to my brother if he wants to continue to shoot. The others? I dunno!
I have only two bows now. Both Blacktails take downs. I'd like to get a third Blacktai, a one piece Blacktail. But, I can't justify it. The old; "I want it, but I really don't need it" syndrome.
I have 2 bows but focus on shooting only one. I don't switch back and forth. Purchased the second bow thinking I might want 64' vs 62". Shot the 64" for a season and shot it well but, went back to the 62". Knowing this, my next bow will a "custom" built to my spec.
I'd rather shoot one good bow very well.
Really admire anyone disciplined & confident enough to own 1 bow for everything. That wouldn't be me.
I'm a one bow man, except for the bow I use for bowfishing(Browning Wasp). Everything else, I do with my Predator takedown. Specs in my signature below.
I`ve been shooting the same one since August..does that count?RC
BW PSR is basically all I have shot for the last 4 years.
I know I would probably shoot better if I stayed with one bow but I can't. No will power. I sometimes take 2 or 3 out in the backyard to shoot at a time.
I'm a bowaholic!
When i started this post I was pretty sure most people had several bows, I too feel somewhat guilty about not shooting a particular bow, thats why i sold my beloved silvertip at denton hill this year. I shouldn't feel guilt at all, bows don't have feelings, and I think i'm getting to the age (41) that I don't need it all anymore.
I've been shooting my new Brackenbury pretty exclusively since I got it last winter. It's hard for me to stick with one bow and I know I shouldn't be messing around during bowseason, but I couldn't take it anymore. This morning I strung up the Abbott longbow and got it out of my system! Man, did that feel great!
I followed up with a big practice session with the Brack so I would be good to go on tomorrow evening's hunt.
I have ONE ! Bow Maker ! (Chad Holm )
But I have 3 of his Bows !
Carl
i shoot one at a time. :D :readit: :D
i really only hunt with the same style bow . Thats why I have 6 bows ... matching specs , different makers .
Hill style 68" 52# @ 27"
so does that count ? lol
ive only use one bow its a woodland riverbend longbow made by rick ingreham. ive had this bow for about 25 years 62#at 27inches.its all bamboo with cocobola handel. my friends call it the broom stick. ive taken deer squireels a rabbit and this year a turkey. just never saved the funds to get another. well thats not quite true. i had the money this year but gave it to my daughter for her summer study abroad in england oh well. i use this bow for everything but not as a broom
i have quite a few bows, but i shoot all of them on a regular basis.variety is the spice of life, steve
I'm a one bow guy. I have a pronghorn longbow T/D with ceramic foam core limbs with black glass. 60" 55# @28. Why only one? I don't think I need another one, but I'm thinking in getting a recurve when I have the money. Raul.
I have 3 bows but since getting my xcellerator I think it will be just one in the future. Been shooting it exclusively since it arrived. :archer:
I have a Bear T/D with 2 sets of limbs I shoot for eveything.
I shoot a 67# Robertson 66" longbow for 3D and all kinds of hunting. I have another in 53# that I have used some this past summer for 3d and I took it hunting a few times late last season. I just really click with my 67#er and that is what I want to hunt with.
God Bless,
Nathan
What's the fun in that :scared:
Yes, just one. Daala, 55@28, 62 inch. I will consider a 2 pc long bow if the right one comes along, just to simplify things. Big Jim's and A&H are on the list right now. I am happy with what I have tho. :archer2:
I'm a one bow kind of guy. I shoot everything with it. (A longbow that is). It makes me a much better shooter and I save a lot of money not having to outfit serveral bows with arrows and such.
I do have a re-curve for backup and for shooting two stage turnaments.
Not that I wouldn't mind having 4 or 5 more bows around to share and promote Trad Archery.
Just the HH Halfbreed for me. What else would I need? :-D

I can't imagine such a thing.
I only use one bow.... per year. I pick one off the rack and that's my bow for the year. When I first got started in trad archery I wondered why my uncle that got me started needed so many bows. 'Cause after all you can only shoot one at a time right? Now I own more bows than he does.
I have Silvertip recurve that I've had for almost a year now and I vowed when I got it I was gonna stick with one bow and learn every nook and crany of it. So far me and that bow have got along real good. I can pick it up and don't have to think where everything needs to go, it just feels natural. As soon as I shed some blood with it we will be complete!! Jason
Jason,
I have a silvertip coming in April. I'm hoping it will give me a similar change in philisophy! I'm not a collector but I am hunting as hard for the bow perfect for me as I am deer this year!
I have one bow. If I feel there is an issue with it I will sell it and get another. I feel you have to be as good with the bow as is possible.
Thant being said.... I still have some work to do!
I own 42 traditional bows. I only shoot one now. but it was a long time coming to THE one. talk about being a part of you. yes it is. what ever i finally decided to shoot at has expired shortly there after.
I have two, but they are from the same manufacturer. I have a 58" Timberhawk Talon Monarch that is 52.5# at my draw that I like so well I bought another. Timberhawk Talon Hunter, 58" long and 54# at my draw. Sent my Monarch to the bowyer and he matched up the limbs to the riser so that everything is interchangeable and matches up perfectly. He also matched the grips/risers so close that I tell them apart without looking. Shooting the Timberhawk(s) exclusively for over a year now and I see no reason for a change. Mike
I have only one bow - Bob Lee Signature TD (62", 60# @ 28").
Why? I figure I'll shoot more accurately if I shoot the same one all the time.
Know I should get down to one bow and a back up,but don't know which one I want to back up or what I want to back it up with.
Just set up my first ILF today,so here we go again, off to the races.LOL. :knothead:
it's always best to just shoot one stickbow exclusively.
however, i think it pays big dividends to have at least one tried 'n' true back up stickbow. it's a jungle out there, and ya never know ....
Years ago I had a HH style longbow that shot fairly good but had some hand shock. Charlie Lamb retillered and cleaned the bow up and it shot great. No hand shock and smooth back to my 29" draw. I was a one bow man. Then one day I pulled a muscle in my shoulder and had a hard time shooting the 65# bow. I set it aside and started looking for a bow I liked and could shoot. My big mistake was selling the longbow to fund my next bow. I been looking for several years. This year I feel I have found my one bow again. A 55# @ 29" St. Joe River 62" longbow. As long as I do my part this little bow hits where I look.
Its like Lay's Potatoe Chips, you just can't have just one. :archer:
Last count 9 bows.
I have 2 in reality but really go to 1 bow.
My two is listed just below in my sig line but my go to bow is the Zona, for some reason that bow & I are as one when it comes to shooting & I have shot my best with that bow even when I had lighter weight or other combinations it just seems to fit me perfectly & it seems to know where I want that arrow to go.
The Sky Hawk is a close second but is my back up bow.
I have three. However, I use my St. Joe River Bow (longbow) almost exclusively! I have another SJRB 'curve, that is for backup, and sometimes for late season. Plus I have a t/d robertson.
I don't see a need for another (although, I have really, really wanted another), but for the cost of another bow ($600-$1000), I can do A LOT of huntig for that much money! Personally, I would rather go on a hunt somewhere then have another bow hanging on the hook.
