Title: How old?
Post by: pdk25 on November 05, 2010, 08:35:00 AM
I've never been real good at aging deer.  Here are a few pics of 2 different buck that I got off of a trail cam.  Hoping to see how old other people think that these deer are.

My guess would be around 2 1/2 years old. Bellies aren't sagging  and backs are straight lined. Hard to tell for sure from pictures and I'm no expert!  They look tasty though!!! Good luck and enjoy pursuing them.

Keeping the Faith!

I would say 2.5-3.5 no older, and either would be a fantastic bow kill! As customcrester said ,"Old enough for me"!!!!!

not a day older if you connect with one.

My guess is 3.5...both have stocky shoulders and thick chests but lack the brisket swagger, saggy back, and short legs you see with deer older than 4.5. I think they are too well developed to be 2.5, but both are the same age imo.

Thanks for the info guys.  One way or the other, the haven't put my patience to the test yet.  I was thinking that the 8 pt might have been a little older than the drop tine, but I didn't get any better pics of the drop tine.

Not being familuar with your food sources and growth patterns...  comparing them to Illinois deer... 3.5.  The body structure seems a bit fine for anything over that but because of it could be 2.5... antler development seems a bit slin for anything over 3.5 (mass) however again given the body stuff.  Another year and all of them will be quite good if conditions are right.
