After a zillion years of hunitng I finally got an opportunity at a red fox and I made it count! I was in my deer stand watching a 3 1/2 yr old bruiser completely terrorize the place chasing every thing that twitched, all at once he left with a doe and the place got quiet again. An hour later a gorgeous red fox came trotting by and I made a kissing sound, drew, picked a spot and hit him right behind the shoulder and exited through the opposite leg, he never took another step. The shot was 18 yards on the spot. I will never forget this night! A full body mount is in order and the "boss" gave me clearance. I will get pics tomorrow. For the gear guys. I used a 62" Fatal Styk, 55# @ 30, 625 gr CE Heritage (tubes), with Bear greenies and no bleeders. :biglaugh:
Congrats
Great Job!!
Red fox aren't very big critters, so that was a heck of a small target and an awesome shot! Bravo!! :clapper:
Great shooting, waiting on pics.
My digital camera isnt much to talk about, I have to wait for daylight to get any pics to turn out decent.
Well Done!! I'd love to get a Fox someday.
Congrats!
nice!
Good on you for outfoxing the fox!
Nice shooting! Foxes (IMHO) are the most underrated bowhunting trophy. In 25+ years of bowhunting, I've only been successful in killing one. Congratulations and thank the Mrs. for supporting you!
Congrats. Waiting for the pics.
Well done they are not an easy target.
My Best to you.
Congrats,I know how you feel i shot a beautiful red fox back in 2005 and had a full mount done too. :clapper:
Hey thats great, they are tiny targets.Got a picture of him.?
Congrats! I've been seeing fox where I hunt, but they are not in season yet. Had one sitting at about 15 yards, but I'm not going to poach one.
Great Job--can't wait to see pics!
Congrats, can't wait to see the pics. I've had a few under my stand before, but no clean shots to take. Oh, and did I mention, can't wait to see the pics.

Pics, pics, we needs them pics!!! Outstanding & so glad you are getting it mounted. Memories like that can not be bought.
Well-done!
I have missed few foxes, but one of my best shots is been to a walking fox some 35 yards away, from the ground.
I will take pics this afternoon when I get home from work. I have never posted a pic on here so I may need to e-mail them to one of you pic pro's to have them posted. Thanks for the kind words all. It was certainly an unforgettable evening on stand for this ol' bowhunter. It sounds crazy but I think I would rather have taken him over a nice buck. Its just a rare thing for me to see, let alone shoot at.
Great story & shot. You;re on a short list w/bow killed fox. Thanks.
Making the shot count when the time comes!!!
Excellent job!!!
I forgot to mention that his 18# of body mass somehow broke my arrow in half? No clue how that happened considering he didnt move after the hit, maybe 2-3 feet?
Really cool trophy, can't wait to see the picts.
I shot a gray fox a few years ago. Before my arrow passed through him he bit it in half. I wold have never guessed they could do it. I actually still have the arrow, first kill with wood.
God Bless,
Nathan
Nice hit! I took a Grey fox last year. Fox are so cool. Congrats.
Got to be dialed in. Well done.
A fox with a stick is a real trophy,I missed a gray last year, good for you!
congrats! i've had several chances at a pair of grays this year under persimmon trees but they were too much fun to watch. might try one in the next week or two now that it's getting cooler and the fur is getting thicker. red's and yotes are about the sharpest animal in the woods and are a real trophy. i killed a yote with a compound about 20 years ago by calling him in with a bobwhite whistle. missed reds twice last year and had one walk under my stand on opening day this year but didn't get a shot.
Great shooting! They are a tough critter to get. Last night I told a co-worker who is a big pedator hunter that I was going to try to hunt some fox I see. He thought I was nuts to try with trad gear let alone a compound.
Thanx for sharing and for the encouragement to try.
awesome! I'm envious!
Congrats!
It is funny and obviously regional but we have tons of foxes and I see and pass them all the time. I had one the other day sleeping 15 yards from my stand the other morning. They are fun and entertaining to watch. Now coyotes are our rarity and I would like to get a crack at one of them.
That is a nice trophy for sure. I would do the full body mount, too. Good Job. Let's see some pics.
Nice! Foxes are beautiful critters no doubt and to take one with a stickbow is awsome accomplishment. So I would say Trohy of a lifetime.
Congrats
LV2HUNT is must be regional, we have yotes coming out the woodwork around here, few fox. I know its one or the other because they dont care for each other and yotes from what Im told will kill a fox the first chance they get. Pics coming in a few hours after I get back home. I will never forget the sight of that arrow flying dead straight to that shoulder, GOD that was beautiful!
Pearl Drums,
Congrats on the fox, a trophy for sure and imho the most beautiful mammal in the woods. Interestingly, the thought among DNR folks seemed to be that the coyote which are plentiful were taking over fox, like you mentioned. But over the past two years there has been an explosion in fox population even though yotes still seem to be numerous as well. This has been in mid west Ohio where I live and in S.E. Ohio where I hunt. I see a number of them on trail cameras and three were shot, 2 with bows by the guys in our camp last season.
If there are any professional picture posters willing to post some pics for me I could e-mail them to you. Please let me know, thanks all!
Here is the pic. Great shot!!

You should be real proud of (http://www.runemasterstudios.com/graemlins/images/cheers.gif)that I know i WOULD.
Nice Shot!!!
I put a stalk on a bedded yote yesterday...got within 10yds and missed when he got up to run. :banghead:
Now get after that buck!
Red Foxes make beautiful mounts. This is only my opinion, but try to pick out a pose that has the fox in a more relaxed position, like sitting or lying down. Most people seem to get tired of a agressive or action type pose. Just my two cents worth. Anyway congrats.
