Title: New spot...now what?
Post by: Paul/KS on November 02, 2010, 11:37:00 AM
Well, I had a rare nice surprise this weekend. The place next door to mine was offered to me for deer hunting. It's a 1/4 section, mostly hay and grazing pasture but there are a couple pockets of trees scattered around it. Looks like I need to do some recon... It has not been hunted on for quite a while either.  :)
Think it's too late for setting up a pop up blind?

Still hunting and spot and stalk scouting into the wind.  Once you find a good location or two build natural ground blinds.  The fit in and the deer become accustomed to the quickly.

Good Luck. i would watch the fields with Binoculars. It will give you a good idea where to start.

I would go for it by setting up on a point or draw, the usual deer kind of spot. see what happens.

Scout it during the middle of the day, if you find some hot scrapes, set out a trail camera, it will tell you what bucks you have on the property in just a few days. I wouldn't be without a few cuddy's.  RW

Survey the area and find the trails in and out. If one comes to a wooded patch set up in the patch or in the field as mentioned above.Try and glass the area at early morning and noon and evening to get a pattern on them and then proceed from that point.Good luck

If you don't know the property well Google Earth it.  Can give you some real insight. If you have a gps you can make some waypoints so your not just wandering around if you see something interesting .
