Went on a hunting trip to a nearby WMA. Quite a few friends went as well and we had a heck of a good time. I usually eat soup and hotdogs and such and hunt hard but several of these fellows were Dutch oven Masters and I ate like a King every night.I mastered the art of "Schustering" for those that know what that is...
Here is my cam with my good Buddies Decater Dunagen and Dennis Rice camps behind. A snoring duet...

Good Buddy Chris Spikes and I made a few scouting trips. I was hobbled a bit with a leg still healing and these fellows helped out a lot...

Decater on a log checking things out...

Gotta have some pics of the River thrown in..

I was walking a sandbar and saw this flock of birds...

Heck of a bird in this pic...

A pic of the Black Lake in need of some water..

How bout a tree growing from a tree..
Cool pictures.Looked like fun.
Glad I am up late for this!
I spent the better part of three days hunting the owner of this....
Never saw him. Its on a ridge I hunt some every year and have seen several good bucks on. I missed one here a few years back. I did`nt want to kill my whole hunt on this deer so I went scouting for a feed tree . Ran into this fella while scouting..he shoulda climbed higher..
Everyone saw Turkeys I believe . This WMA is loaded with them..
My Buddy Marty "Apex Predator bows" shot a deer we decided to track midday.
It was very easy track job and I left Marty to field quarter his deer as I headed on to a feed tree I found nearly two miles in. One of the best I`ve seen in a couple of years...
I found a bug eyed turtle on the way in...
and one not so lucky..
Had to cross a mighty purty spot to get to my Feed tree...
Lotta "frog" trees on this WMA...
I settled into my stand at about 3:00 and heard a deer come through the palmettos and bed at about 4:00. At 5:00 it decided to come on to the tree and feed. I was sitting over a red oak and a water oak that was pouring acorns and looked like cows had been under them for a month.
The deer came in and turned sideways at 12 steps. The shot looked good..
I thought I heard the deer crash and I took a compass bearing . Its a good habit because everything looks different from the ground. There was a very good bloodtrail . Magnus I heads don`t play..
At the end of a 75-80 yard blood trail ther he was. Not a big one but very hard earned. Its nearly two miles to where this buck lay and the truck.Sometimes you gotta go deep on public land..
Packed up and ready for the hike out.

RC, just a question...did you bone that deer out and just pack out the meat?? Great photos as always!
Good job. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Guys. I field quarter and bone out the meat and put it in a pack that will roll up and fit in a cargo pocket. My good friend Brother John showed me this a long time ago on pigs . After I met Mr. Warren Womack I learned he had been doing this forever as well.Kinda like an Indian skinning a Buffalo I guess.. And no I don`t gut them. You make a slit for the heart and liver if you want after all the other meat is off.During the warmer months on deer and pigs you can hang the meat on a limb a few minutes to let it cool before putting it in the sack of like me I hunt by the River a lot and I`ll put it in the sack and set it in the river a bit to cool. If its to hot I high tail it to the truck or boat where ice is ready. If you`ll google Mr. Warren you can find his video on it. It takes all of 15-20 minutes to skin a deer like this. If I`m more than a very short drag from the truck its what I do.Like my Grandaddy said "work smart not hard".RC
In that pack you see the shoulders , hams and backstraps and tenderloins are in there as well as any other chunk of meat big enough to cut off.The pack looks small but it was probably 75 pounds.RC
That's a great story and pics. Well Done!!
Thanks so much for posting realy enjoyed it.Nothing like good friends to share a camp with. All the best.
Congrats guys!!

Very cool, thanks for sharring!
Man you are a hawking machine!!!! This year has been aweful. Lots of acorns, no deer sightings. Never had this happen before. I hope my hawk isn't cursed!!!!!!!
I had a great time, and killed a little deer with my new longbow! It's always a pleasure hunting with RC. I stay in "sponge" mode when around the man, cause he is full of great hunting knowledge.

:clapper:
Congratulations on a fine buck. Thanks for sharing the great photos.
Any pork :readit:
Thanks again guys. I saw probably 60 pigs on the trip . I had several around 20 yards and was hoping for a closer shot that did`nt happen. Had one I could have touched with my bow but could`nt shoot for a bank of dirt between us..easy to get close like that. I got smelled by the others with that one and almost got run overed by a scattering group of 20.Everyone camping with me got on hogs and a couple of shots taken with no pork at camp.
Stone Knife, you made it to fort stewart yet? I`d be glad to show you around. I`m tagged out on bucks so I`ll be hunting does around the house and headed there for pork a lot.RC
Great stuff, RC!
Once again, great job.
