Title: 1st dangerous big game kill
Post by: Jeff Roark on October 31, 2010, 08:32:00 AM
It was an intense spot and stalk on this beast! I got him with a 55lb Quinn Stallion with a GT 3555 tipped with a Zwickey Judo blunt. Hunting these squirrels absolutely has to be the best fun I have had with any hunting since I was a kid. I have almost decided that Sunday afternoons are going to be pronounced Squirrel Hunting Sundays!

Word has it we have a sabre tooth chipmunk around here.  Nice shot, my kids and I go out every Sunday afternoon, but we haven't been able to tag one yet. Saw a fisher cat last weekend chasing them, he did a bit better than we did.

eat them? we were raised on them. I called over to my grannies house the other morning and asked granny where papa was and she said "that old thing is in the kitchen eating breakfast". I asked her what he was eating and she said he had already eat 4 squirrels!

I hadn't posted this here yet, but here was my first traditional kill. I had to go back the next morning to find her and the coyotes had got into her a bit but I still got some good meat.

lb for lb squirrel is every bit as tasty as deer.

I really like it all but dang do I love me some wild rabbit.

Sticking them tree rats isn't as easy as one would think just because there are so many running around. They are certainly plentiful this year but that's doesn't mean necessarily that you'll get enough stuck to make a meal.

Thanks for sharing!

God bless,Mudd

He looks like a real stud.  I'm impressed that you could stand your ground and make the shot.  :scared:

I hope you had a good rifle backup on that kill--maybe a .500 Nitro Express.  Looks really mean!

Had one of those critters for lunch a few days ago. Sure was good. They eat my pecans and I eat them. Sounds fair to me.

Jonathan,

Hey man long time no speak! Just been hunting every chance I can. You been lifting any? I lifted a little bit back in the summer, maybe a month and a half and just let it go. I'm way more into archery and bowhunting now. Don't know if I will ever really lift heavy again as I feel so much better now its hard to believe. Have you heard anything out of Heath Sexton lately?

Sam,
Yes, the old Quinn Stallion will do its job everytime as long as I do mine. Yeah old buddy, I am having the most fun I have had in years and years.

I'm still lifting a little, just no longer competitive about it.  I spend a lot more of my free time shooting, building bows, and knapping now.  I haven't seen or heard anything out of Heath in a while.  I know he usually gets pretty busy this time of year with football and falls off the earth for a while.  Then he tends to come back as strong as ever.
