OK, I'm not trying to start something here, really I'm not.
But, is there another bow brand as rugged, durable and just plain bomb-proof as a Black Widow?
Just askin'
I personally am not fond of the "look" of a bw recurve but I did see a video of the making of.. and the guy stands on the recurve limb and bends it about a 180 from where it's supposed to be... no problem. It was pretty impressive I must say.
I do have one that I have dry fired at least three times and shut a tip in a pick up door and still shoot it all the time... hate to admit that but...
Hill bows perhaps?
Don't own a Widow. But they certainly sound to be a tough bow from everything I've heard about them.
I've dry fired my hill 3 times with no ill effects, i've also tossed it out of the tree because my lowering rope fell from about 20 ft. Shut it in a car door. i like to consider it my ugly stik.
Tred Barta's bow seems to hold up to some rough treatment....
BTW just watched him take a nice whitetail from his chair.
Makes me feel a little inadequate.
Damon Howatt. They are well built bows.
Bob Lee & Assenheimer
Most any bow built with maple or hickory or red elm lams . S glass and lots of phenolic in the riser. A heavy phenolich strip or Heavy phenolic I beam in the riser makes a pretty bomb proof riser. The real key is to make a high performance bow that is bomb proof and shoots smooth and quiet. Its expensive and time consuming to do though. God Bless you , Steve
PS I do admire BW for doing it. It shows their committment to safety and concern for their customers. I do it too but for a long time I wondered why BW did some of the things that they do. Now I don't wonder. I'll be glad when they make phenolic that is as strong as it is now at half the weight though.
Bob Lee hunter is built like a tank--they shoot well too!

I saw that too and was like dang!!!
sorry for straying off topic :)
Mike Fedoras bows are as tough as it gets.
I had a 2 piece PSR that got dry fired twice. It looked like a figure 8 laying on the ground after it flew out of my hand. Got it twisted back around and strung up with no damage either time. The guy I sold it to ran it over with his Explorer after forgetting it on the ground. It got scratched up pretty good. He sent it back to BW and it came back like new.
Not that there aren't tough bows out there, but there aren't any tougher than Black Widow.
I have a PSAIII that I dearly love...but, it is the bow I'm most fearful of twisting the limb when stringing with my stringer. In fact, the only bow limb I've ever twisted was a MAII about 9 years ago. Cost me $75 to get it fixed. From what I've learned from some of you fellas I could probably have fixed it for nothing but I didn't know how back then.
I think the toughest bow I have is "The Stick" by Tim Strickland. Metal riser, head-to-toe camo, thick limbs and it really feels great and shoots super too.
:goldtooth:
Every Mohawk I owned was just about bombproof in my book! :saywhat:
Check Mate.
Put me in the bush and give me one bow and it would be a leon stewart....just solid. TM
Any one piece longbow is about as bomb proof as you can get. Fiberglass running full length and narrow, thick core. Chad
I like my Widows because of their ruggedness and great waterproof finish that seems to be impervious to the rain forests I hunt in. Are there any others as rugged? I havent found any but then again I quit looking when I found Widow's. Frank
I saw the same Black Widow video as Okie, unbeleivable, it made me cringe! I never thought any bow could take that much abuse.
I don't know if the video is on their web site but if it is, you should check it out. You can say a bow is tough but this video puts it on the table.
I have always thought the widows were about as tough a bow as you could get overall. The longbows they build are incedibly tough as well as the recurves.
I agree with Chad. The deep cored longbows are super tough bows and I think the straight limbed or mild R and D versions may have an edge in the keep on ticking department in the case of abuse.
I think the Big Jim Buffalo Bow is a mighty strong longbow as well.He has a touch limb that could withstand some torture testing IMO.
I like the Great Northern bows as well for a resilient quality.Thier are plenty others I am sure.My Fredericks could withstand anything I could dish out year after year.Dry fires etc.You name it.They never failed me in the least.
