or something like that. Anyone remember that thread? Was wondering how that fella made out. He found a spot an older hunter described to him. Could only get there in a canoe. It was a pretty neat story. He found it and posted a few pics and was going to hunt it. I tried to do a search but came up empty.
Oh Matt, I remember. I had forgotten about it though. Those were beautiful pics weren't they? I hope someone can remember the post. I hope that gentlemen throws a thread together with his pics!

Matt, It's hard for me to listen to Old Timers anymore because those older than me are nearly all dead by now!

I'm starting to resemble that remark!
Thanks Jeremy. the thread is up again. I sure hope he got to hunt that spot. Anyone know when the season ends up there?
Hey Longbowman, you sayin' you might be an oldtimer:) I'm not far behind. Does anybody listen to ya?
Being an oldtimer I am often the only one that will listen to me. So, yes, I listen to myself and a few others.
Do I or did I listen to old timers? Only when I wanted to learn something!!! Now I are one!! :biglaugh:
It just does soemthing to you when the young trad guy comes up to you and you realize that every bow you own is 10 yrs. older than he is!
Missed it in March, so thanks for finding it. He posted in Sept. Wonder if he is camped out there now.
You know, when I was a kid, you LISTENED to the old timers. Or..........you'd get a backhand across the mouth!
It isn't until you're older and wiser that you realize you shoulda listened for your own good.
How's that go? When I was 16 my Dad was the dumbest man on the planet. He sure learned alot in the next 5 years cause by the time I'd turned 21, he was the smartest man I'd ever known.........

You nailed it again Biggie

Biggie,
I showed what you wrote to my 24 year old son.
He just laughed and said, "Who ever wrote that just wanted to be sure he was mentioned in his old mans will."
Guess they don't all learn by 21!
I'm hoping at 56 years old I haven't fallen into this old-timer category yet? However, I do talk to myself and I'm a very good listner.
Some people aquire wisdom along with their age. Some are old fools. I listen to everyone and then decide whether or not to act upon what I heard. I am old enough to know I don't know much worth knowing except Jesus. God Bless you all and have a great day. Steve
Thanks to TG I do. Not many around here so to speak.I do listen to Ron W whenever I get next to him. I did have a few of real deal old timers I often spoke and hunted with and asked a lot of questions. Two have passed and the other I lost touch with when I started raising a family. I miss them both.At least theres a few virtual Old Timers I get to chat with here.
At one time, we all rebel a little but if your raised properly by Christian parents and family....YOU LISTEN TO THE OLD TIMERS.
When it comes to hunting/fishing etc...what better person to ask than someone who has seen it or done it, made the mistakes and is now willing to share the information that will make you successful.
I never hesitate to offer advice or help someone when I'm asked, especially when it comes down to ground hunting or still hunting. At 58 yrs old, I still keep my eyes and ears open when someone speaks....your never too old to pick up a few pointers.
Went to a family reunion last weekend, and realized that I'm third in line for the oldest Stokes left in the family. Even though I'm a hexagenarian, I still listen to my septogenarian and octogenarian uncles when they offer advice.
Listen up, whippersnappers!
Longbowman, I hear you talking and feel your pain
Ya know how they say you judge someone in the first 30 seconds, well age goes a long way on my judging credibility !
The older the more credible ! (unless I think they are senile LOL)
Dan
I do some outreach stuff at a Senior assisted living place near me and let me tell ya its an education once they forget you are there. Some pretty cool people who have lived amazing lives. I learn more by listening to them interact with each other. Its a revelation.
that was a great story thanks for sharing. Most of the real woodsman oldtimers around where I live have gone on to bigger and better things than this Earth. Unfortunatly at my age most of the people older than me grew up in the age of the compound. Most but not all have taken the easier is better mindset, but I still listen.

It was Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) and by the time he wrote it his estate was worth a lot more than his old man's. Looks like you're right Bawana.
Biggie, in addition to the youngster getting a little wiser simply because he is older, there is also a very high correlation between the old man's increased wisdom and how long the youngster has been paying all his own bills. That's when my dad got really smart!
At the tender age of 67 I have found that many of the youngsters have not learned "how" to listen. "Youngsters" are in the under 30 crowd. If they have managed to stick with archery, wheels or traditional they begin to listen around 40. There is a totaly different mind set in the generation behind us. They have grown up in a time of plenty. That is untill the last couple of years.
Our job is to continue to be ready to speak.
I am reminded of the Chinese proverb, "When the student is ready the teacher will appear."
I like to listen to Ksbowman cause he makes me laugh.
Honestly I would much rather hunt with older and wiser people than Myself. I'm 48, when I was 20 I knew everything. Now I realize I don't know squat!!!
So yes I listen.

I'm with you bretto. Used to think I knew it all. Then learned that most of what I thought I knew was wrong. Now I just prefer to listen more than talk. I am new with trad bows and hope to learn from all of you. At 55 I have learned not to take things to seriously. Trying to lighten up some in my more advanced years.
