I have been wanting to give my 10yr old son a quality bow. Times are a little tight financially so I am thinking of taking one of my existing bows and having the poundage lowered to 35lbs.
Can this be done? If so does anyone have an estimated cost?
Thanks for all your help.
call whip ar praietrad.com he has the bow hospital he can help you out on lowering the poundage
Thank you.
Was wondering if there was any NJ Bowyers around?
3 rivers is a sponsor here and they have some kid/s bows that are inexpensive and well built, Check them out.
I have heard good things about Samick bows
Depending on the poundage of your current bows. Most bowyers will want to draw the line at 5-6#. The bow will need refinishing afterwards. A used 35# bow, or a youth bow will be less expensive and a better solution. IMHO

Talk to Maddog Traditional Archery. He's a sponsor here and makes nice bows for kids.
Mike's a good guy, he'll take care of ya. Check out the sponsor's list above.
Bjorn hit it on the head and joekeith nailed it. Talk to Mike at Maddog Archery. He is first rate people and my son loves every minute of shooting with the longbow that Mike made for him!
Travis
I like the spike bow!! Sent you a PM Legend!!
That Spike youth curve is nice!
For the 150+ to reduce the weight and refinnish there are many good used bows in the weight range you would need. Check the classifieds,Craigslist, pawnshops, bowshops, online auctions, you just got to look. He will prob outgrow it in two years or more and want one heavy enough to hunt with so you can sell it to offset the next one.

Before you decide to lower poundage on a perfectly good bow, check out the pawn shops and used bow ideas. Many times if you mention it's for a kid, you can deal with folks pretty easy. Also, since you are thinking along the "modify" lines, many bows that would otherwise be junk, with split tips, etc. become perfect candidates for "projects". I've done this a number of times, and picked up the bows for almost nothing. Got some great kids bows, and even learned a lot about bowyering.
Mad dogs bows look great. But they only go to 30lbs. The 35lbs which would be legal to hunt in NJ jump to $175.00
I will keep looking around. Thanks. I tried posting a WTB ad in the classifieds but I don't have a 100 posts yet.
Looks to me like you have 184 posts?? email the mods; you have to do that no matter how many posts you have. I had to as well, and so did everybody else.
