It's so windy here in IL. that it will blow you out of the tree.
Great time to be on the ground with a Rancho Safari "Guille" longcoat. Wind in your face and play the game. Can't kill anything in camp but time. Good luck. :bigsmyl:
Not hunting, but will use this storm to scout this evening for known buck areas to check for sign this year. IF, it is not lightning or raining so hard we can't see, haha ! Love to do my scouting on windy, stormy days to cover scent and noise. Two years ago I walked up on a 140" in a drizzle but he still saw me before I saw him and he was off to the races. Found his core area and almost sealed the deal on him two days later but a wind change at 70 yds got me busted before he came into range, RATS !!! Never seen him again that season.
I sat in the tree the other night. Just because I had the time and never saw a single deer and that is very strange for the place I stomp. Wind was bad so didn't expect much movement. Now once it calms down I surely want to be out as we like you have had many windy days (and nights) in a row. We also got some long needed rain today. Going to quiet those extra crunchy leaves.
By Casper standards, it isn't anything different than 'normal' wind, but here in Buffalo we don't get nearly as much 25-35mph breezes. I went out this morning and put up with it, and saw a bunch of deer, along with the biggest buck that I have seen this season. I used the wind to put a stalk on what I thought was a doe, and as I got close enough for a shot saw that it was a button buck, so didn't get anything but another stalking experience out of the deal. I'll go back out in the wind this afternoon; you just never know, but I have learned that it is hard to kill a deer from my easy chair in the den.
I'm taking the day ofF! I am still a bit dizzy from the swaying tree yesterday!
It's howling here in northern Michigan today too.
Was planing on leaving early today from work and hunt all afternoon but the pouring rain and wind stopped me.I will do it on thurs. instead with the temps coolin back down.Been warm here in N.E.OH the last few days.Would loved to have been out this morning though.
Really really really windy here too.
It was raging in central OH today and I saw more than I expected to. Passed on a spike.
It was blowing 60 mph here yesterday. I was hunting...hunting a place to get in outta the wind!
The big winds are just getting here now!

With the wind ranging between 50-60 MPH in Illinois today, you are a braver sole than I am Ranger. I wouldn't have gone today even if I could! It would have turned me into a camo clad windsock.
Plan on going Saturday because the temps are dropping, only problem is the wind will be up to 25mph. Don't have much choice but should be exciting.
I went out and moved a stand this afternoon. The wind was calm at fist then started to pick up limbs falling every were. I got the heck out of dodge. I have a friend that almost lost his ear to a tree limb once while he was out checking his cattle fence
yup i didn't attempt it today. it is still raging out the window as i type. i am happy to report the yurt is handling it like a champ
Where I live and how I hunt it is the best time for spot and stalk. The largest deer I ever arrowed it was 45-50 mph all day.
Gust up to 60 mph in NW Ohio today I chickend out!
Howling in Minnesota today and tomorrow going out Thursday after they are more relaxed
I did this evening and didn't see a thing, not even a squirrel.
It was closing in on dark thirty and I was packing up to slip out when I was blown away by one that was coming up the draw from behind me.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
God bless,Mudd
I saw 3 good bucks tonight. Nothing within 30 yards but the were moving. They all worked the same scrape.

i'm with ya, its been so windy the last two days a guy would almost have to turn around in his stand and hang on to the tree for deer life. Hopefully as this front passes thru the wind will die down with any luck by Friday but its not looking to promising
Hunted this evening and saw one doe. The wind is high here as well but I couldn't stay out of the woods since bow season is coming to an end here in Texas.
I was driving the semi that got flipped over at Van Wert today. I AINT GETTIN IN A TREE!
I'll be in a tree in about 8 hours.... I may pull the harness a bit tighter than normal. :D
I have only taken a couple of bucks while hunting in high winds. Hunting deer in strong winds appears to be much harder on the hunter than the deer. I have gotten busted by deer in hunting high winds than any other circumstance I can recall. Busted a least twice after scouring the area for any close deer before relieving myself. I guess I should have looked down next to the tree.
Once continued to hunt while high winds progressively got stronger and stronger. My partner, the smart one, had gone to the truck 30 minutes earlier. I found I could not get down and ended up taking a spare safety strap to tie me to the tree as I road it out. The storm ended up being a tornado which past quite close. I am thankful that the tree I was in was a monster white oak.
Not me, but I did spend an hour reassembling the 10X20 shelter I have up in the back yard. (It's my rain/shade shelter while I finish up the new "shed".)
I woke up this morning and looked out, and it was (and still is) snowing sideways. Coffee tastes really good right now; I may give it a go for an evening hunt.
I love the wind.
I'm none too sneaky, so I like the wind to cover all the noise I make. If I hadn't filled my tag last Saturday (first deer w/ a bow!) I'd be hunting.
My son came up and we hunted in the AM, very high winds, I hunt on the ground branches and dead trees were falling everywhere wasn't fun! son found a nice scrape real fresh, hope the wind dies and the rain quits for the AM on thurs!
Yeah it was friggin crazy today. I thought I was going to get crushed by a falling log at any moment.
On the other hand...it was perfect for stalking in the AM.
