Good job Marty!
What a weekend with Rod Jenkins! I'll post a full report in the next few days and get a bunch of pictures up but for now. It was probably the most eye opening, yet clearly understandable learning experience I've had. Ever.
Thanks Rod!
I wish I could find some of that, it's my biggest problem with shooting.
Proud of you buddy!!! Can't say I care much for that shirt though :notworthy:
Happy for you buddy :clapper:
Yeah, That about sums it up Guru,Lots of what I thought I knew, I didn't have a clue, and Rod has a way of making it make sense. Its humbling, and exciting at the same time. When the lightbulb comes on and you say to yourself. AHA! Thats what it feels like! Nothing but good times ahead!

I hope Marty doesn't mind me posting this, but I bet it pretty much sums up the weekend for all who attended. Also might help persuade some other Trad gangers that might be interested in getting into one of Rod's classes....
Marty's text..."I am humbled by what I thought I know and what I don't really know. Lots of work with change"
That's good stuff right there! :notworthy:

Curt you got that right. I learned more in two days then I have is my last 3 years of shooting traditional.
Way to go, Marty! You were shooting pretty good in La Tuque, now I imagine game should tremble with fear. I hope the form refinements you've discovered pay big, big dividends in the field.
Good for ya Marty!! And ya!! whats up with the tee shirt..Jeeeeshhhh!!
:clapper:
I remember back in early 90s Marty's mug was in Outdoor Life at a Nicky Roth shooting clinic? He's so photogentic.
Good on you Marty!
Is that a 20# bow ?? I quess I'll be one of the few remaining floating anchors, Rods class the last two years at Ted Fry's has been tempting but I always have had a date conflict. Perhaps next year.
Congrats Marty .... look out critters
Wow, didn't think those existed... :knothead:
Good news Biggie, Marty will be shooting way more critters than he can eat by himself.
Guru- glad you noticed the shirt! Dolphin fans in the neighborhood didn't like it much yesterday either! Someone had to win! Bet they cover fumbles this week in practice!
Learned alot this weeknd, but I also know there are no quick fixes-he gave us homework! Now I wasn't really much of a homework student when I was younger-but this homework means something-I start tonite. And here's the kicker-you grade yourself. Several guys wanted to take him home with them- now I certainly wasn't gonna ask a Tommy Lee Jones lookalike to go home with me- my wife is the jealous type. Actually I never even heard of the dude until swampdrummer's thread-but when several of my buddies offered to pony up the cash for me to go-I figured I'd better listen. The only one that didn't was Biggie- he loves to be better than me. My shooting is his best material. Without me-he'd be boring to have around-no one to pick on!
I put this fella Rod out on stand both Friday and Saturday evenings and unfortunately the full moon and HUGE acorn crop made it a no hog sighting time for him. I asked him if he could make the shot to the feeders which were about 18 yds both evenings and he kinda gave me the hairy eyeball. I had no clue he won the world championships a few times and 43 state titles. I told him there were 50 states and he said-get this-some states weren't worth winnin! Guess he heard that one before.
Seriously he is a good teacher, and the group as a whole learned alot and hopefully we will all be better shooters. Well worth it. Even if I left early to watch the Steelers beat Miami.
:campfire:
Miami was robbed! Keep watching Rothelsbooger you'll see him on Americas Most Wanted someday.
As far as your shooting goes...........we'll see.
For sure everybody as a lot to learn from Rod.I waould like to attend myself one of those classes, but it isn't really next door to me.
You left early?!!!! Oh crap...that's when Rod gives you the secret is the last 5 minutes! batman and I dropped 200 to get you extra lessons and you leave early!!!!! Buy your books and you eat the binders off instead of read them. Nice pic though, looks like you have dropped another cup size in that T Shirt
Why don't you and your buddy Biggie go eat a Boston Butt,if you can find someone to cook it. Batman says he'll do it opening day of turkey season if I want a good one Carolina style. I know Mississippi style requires a very sharp knife.(maybe even an ABS seconds broadhead).
If you wear your bra, you can shoot that 40# bow in the Menopause class.
Joey, what's this "aim down your arrow" quote all about? If you are gonna aim, why not just put a sight pin on ?
You already have Marty goofed up on his string fingers. He has all 3 under his arrow like a target archer.........
Don't listen to them Marty. Me and you on teams in May. But, If there is $ involved you need to put in your time and get it down pat.
Biggie, My last 3 targets ran a total of 75yds. DB
I don't believe in magic! your arrow will go where it's pointing so why not look!
Batman, if you'll sharpen your broadheads like Joey taught you, you can cut that 75 yards in half.......
Look at that! Rod is a mircale worker I tell ya!
Nice job Marty - I knew you could do it :readit:
Sounds like Rod's motto should be "No obstacles, only opportunities". If we listen he will help us a lot. Then, like you say, it is up to us to do our part and continue nurturing the seed he planted. Good stuff! :clapper:
Rod planting a few seeds...

Might even be a little back tension going on??

That was day one. By day two. Marty was looking a bunch better. We all were for that matter.
This topic made me giggle...more than once. Good for you Marty, but as far as the dolphins/steelers thing I'm 100% with Biggie. Miami was robbed and I'm keeping my eye out for "big ben" on Americas Most Wanted...Couldn't tell who recovered the ball, the dolphins player that handed the ball to the official should've cleared up that question.
Travis
Marty's coming up on the 6th. I can really get into his head. Like, if I humm a song, he'll hum it all weekend.
I'll plant a few seeds of my own. He'll have to book a whole week with the target guy to straighten him out.
That just wrong Biggie. :bigsmyl:
Biggie-when I spend a weekend with you- I need more than Rod Jenkins- I need Dr. Phil!
Was it just me, or did Rod look like he was snickering while Marty was shooting? Marty that first pic with you wearing your ball cap backwards makes you looked like some sort of deranged rapper.
Rod laughs a LOT during class...not necessarily at the students, but with them. Everything he does makes good sense. One thing he said during our class last spring was what he was teaching is just "old time archery". I never was able to experience any of that growing up in the compound dominated age (1980 was my first bow season), and unfortunately taught myself. Wish I had been able to do this 30 years ago when I was starting out.
Glad to see guys doing it MUCH longer than me can still learn. Good for you Marty
Vargo-don't go pickin on me- you are unarmed! You know better! I have more ammo on you than George W sent over during Shock and Awe. (not sure how to spell awe)but you get the picture John V!
