Title: Bison Gear Houndsman or Haversack
Post by: wv lungbuster on October 24, 2010, 04:33:00 PM
Looking for a small treestand pack. I like the idea of the cinch down staps in case I need to carry extra clothing. Do any of these packs have small in side pockets for a camera or scent bottles??

Check out Kifaru, their stuff is spendy, but lot's of organization options in their packs.

I have a Bison Gear GFA haversack - similar to the Houndsman.  It comes with removable straps on the bottom for packing a jacket or shirt.  It has two water bottle size pockets outside on the ends and a good sized pocket on the face like the Houndsman.  It has one 6" x 6" inside pocket with a flap - no button or snap.  It has a couple of black stretchy material bands that are open on the bottom and another web loop.  It also comes with a snap hook where my Mini Mag is hanging.  On the back of the pack are two wide nylon web belt loops.  You could use it on a belt to the tree or when slung over your shoulder, it could stabilize it on a crawl.

This one is stock and the price was the same as the Houndsman.  Angelo can make the pack like you want it, if you want more or less pockets, sizes, etc.  Give him a call and he can fill you in.  He does return messages left if he isn't in.  I really like mine and it is great for day trips.

Bob,

How do you use the cord cross-tie on the Asbell sack?

Daryl:
that is just a piece of paracord I connected between the webbing hardware to hang it. Some of my treestand sites have a cut branch or a screw-in hook to hang my pack in easy reach. Hanging from the shoulder strap puts the bag too low to reach without a lot of movement. The Bison Gear and Kifaru have a grab loop handle made of webbing on the back.

Great, simple solution to the problem, Bob.  I wondered if that might be it.  Also had wondered about asking Teresa if she could sew a grab handle on.  Your way of handling it looks like a good answer.  Thanks!

Angelo told me to get a Haversack unless I was running dogs with an electronic collar. I think the Houndsman has a pouch(s) specifically for a transmitter.
