I had a nice Doe pass my stand the other day. She emerged from some thick foliage, east of my stand. As she walked past my stands location, I could tell she was just out of my range. I passed on her, hoping she would eventually make her way closer. She didn't. After walking away, I gave a few light grunts on my grunt call. She turned and came my way. She stopped broadside at what I thought was 15 yards ( actually closer to 20 yards ), which is my affective range. I pulled back, anchored ( telling myself, "Shoot low, shoot low" ) and released. I watched my arrow miss her brisket by what appeared to be no more than an inch or two.
Yea, I know- I shot too low :knothead: At least I didn't wound her!
We have all been there!! Doesnt make it any easier tho!!
What a privilege !
A few years back I would get a little upset at people that said
"I even enjoy it When I Miss a shot "
Now I know that enjoyment ,The thing is you know you can do it ,But sometimes we need to be reminded ,And that's why they call it hunting And it's not easy Doing it right .
The thing is, you remember that one for the rest your life !
And the best thing is your attitude
"At least I didn't wound her!"
That takes character
Carl
That's OK, you didn't want to hit her in the "Brisket" anyway ...
Thanks guys.
AdamH: By brisket, I meant heart shot. Right behind the elbow, in the pocket!
"Shoot low, shoot low"......Good shot! Great attitude.
Misses are tough to swallow. Believe me I know. But look on the bright side, you played the game well, you had a good time, you got close, and no one got hurt! Sounds like a good time to me!
Well said, RAU and Thanks sstewa!

Good work.....your "mental manipulation" worked like a charm! Next time try (Perfect shot, Perfect shot)..........hey....you never know!
All joking aside.......if I'm missing low, I know I'm compensating for being high in a stand.......I just have to "compensate" a lil' bit less!
Look at it this way......much better than missing or hitting high!
Great day afield with action to boot! "Almost" does count for something. :)

You know, I done the same thing 7 times this past archery only season. I had to laugh at myself, but I still had a blast. Continuing my quest into our general hunting season still.
Pick a spot and stop thinking.
Everytime I think I end up aiming and screw everything up.
I hunt from ground blinds and I put 10, 15 and 20 yard markers out so I know exactly how far animals are from me.
If ya shoot instinctive, split vision whatever ya should not have to think yardage or shooting low high whatever. Just pick a spot or gap whatever but yardage no. Shawn
No problem Think of it laike this. I get to shoot at another deer. :archer2:
Done that myself. A clean miss can be a good thing.
It hurts on a doe, I missed the biggest buck of my life doing that about 3 years ago.
God Bless,
Nathan
