Since I just turned 44 the other day I felt like spending a morning in the deer woods was a good idea.
With my ol' reliable Bear TD I was perched high above the Maryland woods as the full moon illuminated the scene around me.

Deer were around me early as I waited for the sun to come up and I could only watch them in the moonlight. Since it is early muzzleloader season here I wanted to stay patient as others usually push deer onto our farm.
About 7:40 I see a lone deer coming down the oak flat headed my way!
come on were waiting.
PS happy b-day late

Thanks Doug.
Sorry guys had to take my son to his football game.
As the deer approached its head went behind a big clump of trees so I grabbed my bow and stood up.
Closer and closer until close enough I could tell it was a small spike buck. My brain was on "fire" mode so when he stepped out from behind a small sapling and was ever so slightly quartering away I let fly.
I shoot a homemade arrow made up to look like an "old school" Bear arrow and the white shaft looked awesome as it found its mark!
This is the view from my treestand looking towards where the buck was standing.

And this is the view up from where he stood.

This is my 3rd year with trad gear only. Lots of ups and downs along the way but when I walked up on this one I will admit to getting pretty emotional.
Thanks guys and good luck to everyone!!

Congratulations Bud! That is too cool! I'm reading on my phone so will have to wait to see the pics, but I'm so happy for you!
It is a story to be told and re-told when I am old and gray...to anyone who will listen.
The flight of the arrow is forever burned into my mind's eye.
And then some, congratulations.....
AWESOME hunt THANKS for taking us along!!!!
Now that is awesome! Nice story and buck. I too, got emotional when I killed my first buck with traditional gear. It is an awesome experience, like killing your very first deer all over again.
Nice deer and story.
Beautiful hunting area.
If you ever want a hunting partner i'm not far away :wavey:
Thanks again guys.
Lots of close calls and some misses along the way.
To anyone still looking for their first don't give up and it will come and it is indeed worth the wait!
Outstanding :clapper:

Good Job....now go wash your face.. :clapper: :biglaugh:
John,
Congratulations! Great story - next spring we'll have to add a Nebraska Tom Turkey to the Takedown!

Before I was able to get the face paint off I stopped off and the lady at the place kept looking at me and chuckling.....I couldn't figure out why until I got home and looked in the mirror.
Just another part to an experience I won't forget.
Way to go John!!
Congrats John for your deer, nice lot of woods too.
from F.Bear TD fan club..
 Congrats on a fine animal!
good shot
Nice camo, nice hat, nice bow, awesome deer! You're lookin' like old Fred himself out there. Congrats on your harvest and Thanks for sharing!
One of the things I like most about traditional archery is that we are free to pursue it how ever we like.
For me the plaid wool etc. was a deliberate choice along with my Bear bow which made it all the sweeter. Thanks again guys!
PS: Just picked up the meat tonite. Looks like venison for us this week!!
