In search of a light and comfortable seat to be able to stalk with I recently came upon the Walkstool in a recent post here.
Could not try it, so $89 bucks I thought to give it a try.
Great little stool, am going to keep it for around the house....but it is way to noisy to hunt with. Metal slider legs that spring clip when extended to full height. Tried as I might, I could not get it silenced to feel confident to take it hunting.
I just thought I would get this out there in case any one else was thinking about buying it.
So, not a waste of money, just time, because as you get older, you need to find more ways to take a load off your back...this is the best I have seen for around the shop, yard gardening.
Just not for hunters.
Thanks, I had been looking at those and I don't really need anymore things that "looked like" they would work for hunting setting around.
Thanks for the info.. I was looking at them and they seem pretty well made and all BUT the noise factor never entered my mind. $89 saved. Thanks..
Fill any part of the legs you can with expanding foam, I do it on some of my treestand parts and it really dulls any sound.
I am baffled by the comment about noise on the walkstool. Yes, the legs are aircraft grade aluminum, and yes there are high impact plastic spring clips on the legs to lock them in place. That being said, there is only a noise issue if you behave as if you were at home in the shop setting up the stool. When setting up the stool in the field and extending the legs, you simply slide them out and keep your finger over the spring clip as they lock in place. No noise. When taking down the stool, you simply push in the spring clips and slide the legs in. No noise. The legs make a slight sliding sound when going in or out, but it is mild and frankly, if you are not moving them in and out in a jerky or quick motion, there is very little noise. Certainly not enough to spook game or be a bother to game. You make more noise just getting into your spot and getting situated than the stool ever makes. Once set up, the Walkstool is absolutely rock solid, with a 500 lb. weight rating, virtually unheard of for a stool like this. It is a great piece of gear and extremely compact and light weight. I am a ground hunter mostly, and I use this stool a great deal. Best stool of it's kind and size that I have ever owned.
I couldn't agree more with yukon chuck. Best stool for all around ground hunting that I have found. I have used mine for the past 4 years and have had great hunting success using it. When I plan to sit on the ground the Walkstool is in my pack.
For you guys that use them, which model are you using. I'm thinking the XL.
Hello Mr. Dahlberg,
Good to see you here buddy, glad you could join us!
22" seat height. I'm 6'1" and this size is about perfect.
If Mr. Dahlberg has used one around the "Hills" for four years, it's worth the $80 to find out if it will work for myself. Thanks all, I just ordered one.
How about a pic of this thing or a link?
Dave, go to Duluth Trading Co. Click on Garage, and tool. Walkstool is pictured. Mine is always strapped to my backpack.
Shick
Howdy Bohuntr.
I have used mine in both positions depending on the terrain. It has helped kill a nice whitetail buck and several gobblers. Nothing better than hunting closer to the ground!
I'm 6'2" and I bought the 26" tall model and spent five hours in it tonight for the first time.
I found it to be fairly comfortable with it placed tight against a tree for some back support.
The 2 pound weight, and the compact design were just right for fitting it into my daypack. The straps on the carry bag allow for carrying it as a backpack by itself if you are not toting a pack along.
Looks like it's going to be money well spent on my end.
Dave:
PM'd you with more info on the walkstool. It's not for everyone but it is the lightest and smallest packaging of all the ground seats one can purchase that I have found.
What do you folks do uneven ground or the side of a hill. Do you dig out for the high legs to level it?
All I will say is if I could not buy another one, it would take a lot of money to buy mine. I love it!
