Title: Big Jim Thunderchild Twins :)
Post by: coaster500 on October 21, 2010, 05:14:00 PM
I just received the Thunderchild Twins today!!!!

This whole threat started because I want one of Jim's Bows and saved pictures to help me decide what woods I wanted. Well the Twin Thunderchilds are here and I could not be more pleased. It's raining here so I am shooting at 10' in the house but I love the feel of these bows. I like them and well the woods are drop dead gorgeous!!
After I shoot them a bit I'll add to this post but right now I can't quit holding and staring at them. The Tiger Myrtle, Crotch Walnut and Sheep Horn accents, give me the feeling of real quality. We decided to reverse the woods so that we could show the best of both.

They are 56" 45&50@28

Well done Jim, Well Done!!!

Thank You

They are in the slideshow    :)    But here is a peak....

I just noticed they will be the 300th picture in the show:)

Thanks guys I love them. I'm still playing with them in the house. I think my wife got nervous and went shopping  :)

The grips are exactly the same. The two color woods make them look different but they are twins:)

Steve I think you are right but I don't know if I want the cure  :)

3feathers the Buff shoot like a dream smooth as silk, quiet, forgiving and repeatable. I think that will be the general consensus from all who own one  :)

Kip I understand why the wife went shopping! Lol! Those are simply two of the most awesome bows I've seen come out of the Big Guys shop, and that's saying alot. I'm so glad for you my friend. You picked out some incredible woods and Jim did his usual magic. Congrats, and don't be shy about posting a lot more pics!   :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :notworthy:

Danny both the Walnut and Myrtle grow in California, that's what I was after and the "little guy made it happen"

Mudd maybe somday I'll be in your neighborhood with the family:)

I just got back from the dentist. I had a crown get loose. My cheek is full of Novocain but still had to stop at the range with the twins a launch a couple arrows, all I can say is   :bigsmyl:  ....I didn't have enough time to send more than a half dozen each but I love them!!! I can't wait to work up some arrows for them and give them a real test.

These little bows have a heft that does not feel small to me and are very easy to shoot!!

Jim's bows come with these bow socks, lube for the two pc joint, T-shirt and a stringer...

I have some time before work to shoot. I'm taking an assortment of arrows to see what they like  :)

Kip,
I converted my Bowsock to a 1pc or 2pc. I folded it in half, then cut a slit each side of the center, about 3 inches or so from center, wide enough for the bow to slide into. Then tie off the open end. This way I can just untie the end to slide it in in one piece, or slip each half in from the center, then fold over to carry it taken down. I plan to sew on a velcro flap on the end to replace the strings. Those are nice fleece 'socks and protect the bow well.

coaster500,

Please continue to let us know more about your experience with the twins.

I know when we had our twins we didn't get any sleep for the 1st fifteen months. Unfortunately true. LOL

That's a great idea Danny. These socks are really nice thick material...it seems the little fella doesn't do anything cheap  :)

Quote....."I know when we had our twins we didn't get any sleep for the 1st fifteen months. Unfortunately true."

I will probably be up all night tonight from pain!!! I shot so many arrows I can't lift my arm  :)

I took several different spines with me and was very surprised to find that the twins are not that fussy at all. The 3555 GT Trads I use in the buff@45#s worked perfect in the 45# TC but they shot well with the 50 that surprised me. The 50# ate up the 5575's that are my heavy weights with 300 grains up front. I am really impressed with the smoothness and lack of finger pinch, even with these big mitts of mine. They are forgiving, quiet and man I love to handle and shoot them. I still can't get over the heft of these little bows. They just feel real in your hand. The owner of the local pro-shop (wheels mostly) has an indoor range and was grinning ear to ear when I let him shoot them......a couple of guys pull in with there wheels and the little guys made believers out of them at 20yards. The twins with a tiny bit of help from me tore up the bull (a rare day for me but I didn't tell the wheel guys that) Maybe some more trad guys in the making?

Jim many, many thanks; I can't say enough good things about the Twins. They are all I hoped for and more  :)

Thanks very much,

These bows and Jim sure seem to be getting more and more popular. I just received my Thunderchild, bought here on the classifieds, and am totally in love. Only thing that could have made it more perfect would have been a takedown and the beaver tail to be brown.

Hmmm ... may have to be thinking about ordering custom one of these days.

Congrats on the twins. They are beautiful.
I, too, know of the sleepless nights with twins (some 23 years ago.)

It must have been meant for me. Just happened to check the classifieds right before heading to church last week and there it was.

It IS a great looking bow. I have had a little time to shoot it but not a lot. It will definitely stay in the collection. I just need to spend a little time with it and do some minor tuning.

J oles- I used to think walnut was heavy (back when I used it for projects) but compared to most of the woods used in bow making, it is very light and actually lighter than myrtle by a smidge. There isn't much weight in the wood that goes in the bow anyway. Added weight of veneers and riser if one were to use myrtle for instance would be aprox 12oz compared to a bow made entirely of Gaboon Ebony (not likely to happen)of about 24 0z.
Thanks,bigjim

Hey Bow50- Yes it's true, that's why they call me BigJim (inside joke). I'm about to come up to the spot that had your name on it before you bought the used buffalo from me. Oh Well I guess someone else will end up with your bow!
By the way, What the heck did you say to my wife? She kept chanting...got to get a quiver out to Doug like she was posesed.
See ya soon, Bigjim

Speaking of Jim's Wife and quivers .... Look at the one Jims wife stitched-up for his bow  :)  It is a buffalo quiver with a "stingray diamond insert"
Looks like a perfect match for Jim's Bow, what do you think  :)

Hmmmm, wonder what he would charge me for a California Rattler Skin insert? Should I mail the snake alive? I know he has his own way of doing things?

Jim, make up some bows for the in stock rack. I may need another one the next time I see you. I really like my Buffalo bow but those Thunderchild T/D are looking cool too. Barb is sending me a quiver but she didn't mention the cool shark skin one she made for you..hmmm. Barb is a hoot but I wouldn't want to work like Jim does to keep her happy, LOL. have a great hunt in Ill. hope you get a monster buck. see you and Barb this spring.
