What is the quietest recurve you shot? With or with out silencer, limb savers etc?
I'm looking into buying a new recurve and I'm not quite set yet on wich brand... Any suggestions?
-
On both of my Blacktail TD recurves, there are no string silencers attached to the bowstrings. No limb savers, no silencing in the string grooves. Just quiet. Of course, I'm shooting heavy arrows too.
-
Well if it has to be a recurve, the Fedora 560 is the quietest 'modern' recurve I have had.
Let me add that classic Bear Kodiak recurves from 1956-1962
are unsurpassed when it comes to 'quiet'. IMHO
-
My Ed Mikuta is the quietest TD recurve I have shot. Longbow would be my LC NAT btw.
-
I second the Bear bows, then Bighorn and Zipper.
But everybody can makes quiet any bow bow, just a little of attention to the details.
-
Morrison with foam cores.
-
Assenheimer, but you cannot judge a bow by one factor alone.
-
Toelke one piece and take down recurves like his longbows are exceptionally quiet.
-
assenheimer by far the quietest i have shot and i have nothing on my string
-
Toelke "Chinook"
-
My quietest was my Charlie Lamb Sunbear longbow.
-
Toelke and Whisperstick.
-
The classic Bear Kodiaks from the 60s.
-
I agree- My 60" Fedora 560 and 62" Assenheimer
-
Fedora 560 and a Hummingbird Alpha Male.
-
I have to say the Big Rivers I own are absolutely silent, by far the quietest bows I have ever shot.......now, my sons NewWood Longbow is right up there as well....both..sweet shooters!
-
Whisperstik and a McCullough Fiftyniner.
-
Another vote for the Assenheimer. I'd love to shoot one with foam cores.
-
I have found that some bows of the same make are quieter, my find is a 58# predator 60 inch.
-
Assenheimer and Marriah Thermal
-
Assenheimer
-
My 64" ZIPPER recurve is the one that's almost silent!
-
My vote goes to the RER with static tips any of their recurve models. I have one of their Retro 1-piece recurves, quietest bow I have and I have several. R.W.
-
Fox Breed ...
-
I shot a Toelke Chinook that was super quiet, and the Ambush I have now is very quiet as well. But the queitest recurve I have shot was one made by Gene Saunders.
-
DAS master with Dryad Epic limbs.
No string slap here, its "hybrid" longbow quiet.
-
there you have it.........they are all quiet. :)
string material, strand count, silencer placement, silencer material, arrow weight, arrow material, brace height, ect ect all goes into how quiet or not a bow is
-
The quietest that I personally have ever shot was a particular Appalation Savage River takedown by Dave Guthrie. 62" 58# @ 28". I have never experienced one THAT quiet since, even other Appalations. I've shot just about all listed here except the Assenheimer. All were quiet, love to try the Assenheimer someday though. Morrison Shawnee was surprisingly quiet too before tuning, almost silent now that it is dialed in.
-
The 64" 58#@28" Griffin is one fast, stealthy quiet bow!
-
You guys with the quiet 60's Kodiaks are going to have to let me try one. I bought a '66 Kodiak because I really wanted one. It was the noisiest and harshest shooting recurve I've ever shot. I watched other people shoot the bow and you could see the limbs moving everywhere and it made a racket with wood, aluminum, carbon and even fiberglass arrows. I had to sell it because it was that bad.
Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Quietest recurve I have shot with no silencing was a Zipper Extreme. Leon Stewart recurve was pretty close. My RER makes a racket but can be made quiet with Bow Hush and Hush Puppies.
-
Bruin Recurves are very easy to quiet but they are built only for B-50 strings. I have had good luck getting 65 Kodiak's real quiet too. I have not had luck getting any bows with FF as quiet as these two. I have trouble in general getting any bow as quiet with my 31.5-32" draw as my buddy with his 27" draw.
-
I have a five lam bear kodiak from the 50s, it takes a 70" string. It is as deadly quiet as a hickory longbow.
-
I'll chime in here and say that the Dryad Orion static is as quiet as any I have had. I got the st. judes 58" from 2010 auction. It is so quiet and fun to shoot that I am going to order another set of limbs for it......AND I'M A LONGBOW SHOOTER.
-
my 1970 Bear Super Kodiak 64" 55# with an arrow weight of around 550-600 grains I love it bd
-
my zipper,62" elk horn riser bow
-
I have two Rose Oak King Panthers and both are quiet as a church mouse straight from Brandon.
-
Thanks to some great tips by Night Wing my 1-piece blacktail is very quiet now!
-
RER Arroyo and Jack Kempf Kwyk Styk for me! Longbows would be 7 Lakes and a Roy Hall Cherokee! Shawn
-
My 89 model Bob Lee Thunderbolt 1 pc recurve is the quietest recurve I've ever shot...1 small set of cat whiskers....it's quieter than some longbows.
-
I guess they are all quiet like some one said... Look like it from the diversity of the brands!!
Thank you
-
Out of all the recurves I've owned....the WhisperStik was the quietest.
Mike
-
Beyond a doubt my vote goes to Rodney Wright's Firehawk longbow.
cheers
-
I have owned and shot alot of bows and for me, the quietest recurve is the Rick Welch Dakota Pro Hunter. Even with very light arrows this bow is quieter than my longbows.
-
no contest, the Dryad static limbs, quiter than a long bow, it's the limb design it is curved so the string does not slap. First heard one at a shooting clinic in Ft worth with Rod Jenkins put on by Dryad, could not believe how quite they were.
-
My Fox High Seirra is by far the quietest. I've tried the same set-up on all my other bows and just have never been able to get them as quiet. The Fox is a very soft low thud noise.
-
My 83' Bob Savage Deathmaster. Also, an old Bear 76er can be made whisper quiet.
Joe
-
I will throw a vote in for the Assenheimer's and the King panther from Rose Oak as well for the quiet factor.
Out of those two, I will take the Assenheimer because I like the grip. Brandon from Rose Oak would probably customize the grip for a customer. Couldn't go wrong either way for silence and performance.
-
56" Groves Flame Hunter is totally silent - of course, I'm not as young as I used to be.
Bill
-
Assenheimer or Fefora
-
Charlie Lamb Longbow....several selfbows.
-
Mohawk longbow deadly silent
-
I know most longbow are quite, I was looking more for recurves like stated in my first post... but it is all good info!!
-
I know many complain about Black widow's being loud. I have a psax and I am not experiencing that.
-
Both my morrison recurves 60" quiet and the 62" sounds like a long bow. FFFTT.
-
The quietest by far, and I mean far I have shot is my Talon static. It does not need silencert to hunt with. I would imagine that the Dryad Static is just as quiet as the design is very close but I have not shot one. However in my personal shooting experience shooting literally hundreds of different recurves the Talon is the quietest.God Bless you all ,Steve

I have been spoiled by a 1950's longcurve. It's a model D97 "Dervish" 62" 44@28. (I wish I knew who made it.)
It almost looks like a hybrid, and almost like a recurve but feels like a feather light longbow that hits right where I'm looking.
It is so quiet that it's actually "cool"!
God bless,Mudd
-
Assenheimer shoots quiter than any bow I have ever shot and I've been to lots of shoots.I own schaffer(2),morrisons(2),widows and some great bows but assenheimer shoots just naturally quiet.

Sorry...I just answered the title.
Fedora 560 one piece with BowHush and Hush Puppies with a stock String from Fedora(dacron).....that was the quietest recurve I never heard. :D
-
had a 62" psax widow that was osage and boo limbs, osage riser.that was probably the smoothest quietest recurve i have ever shot.
-
I have a Wing Falcon.. brush buttons and fleece silencers that is so quiet. When you shoot it the only thing you hear is a quiet "Poof".
-
Have a couple of curved limb bed model Birhorns and both are Super quiet.......Randy
-
I have a bow made from a Hill Half Breed blank, 68" a bit more whip ended than a normal Hill. I just got a string from Steve, aka Frankbullit, that makes this bow shoot softer and more quiet than any bow I have ever had the pleasure to own. The only thing is that I need to shoot five pound heavier spined arrows because of the increased performance. I think that the string has to do a lot with how quiet a bow puts out an arrow, I have often wondered if loop size comes into play as well. I have quieted down recurves by making strings with an extra long bleed outs and still keeping the loops as small as possible.

My 60" 1959? Kodiac got really quiet with just a small amount of work.
-
The quietest recurve I've ever shot is a late 90's Super Kodiak I have. It's 57# at my 29" draw, has a B-50 string with small wool yarn silencers, and I'm shooting 600+ grain doug fir arrows out of it. It is the first recurve I've ever had my hands on that it actually as quiet as my Hill Big Five.
-
Dale Dye, Trails End Recurves, very very quiet. :archer2:
-
the quietest recurve i have ever had or shot was my psax with osage and bamboo limbs, that bow was sooooo smooth and quiet.i was an idiot for selling it.it now resides in alaska.
-
I have got to go with Zipper 62".
-
My Bama longbow is quiet with heavy arrows..extremely quiet.
-
The quietest I've shot is my York Cresent. 62", 51#at 28". It is also the only one I've shot.
-
Another vote for Assenheimer (takedown) and the Rose Oak King Panmther (1 piece)
